Either "I have to go to the Men's Room" or "I gotta go take a leak" - all depending on who I'm with.

wink

...and YES we do use the term "bathroom" as a generic term for it. nod

Funny topic this! biggrin

Here in the sunny UK me and a friend have an ongoing game to see who can come up with the most inventive ways of saying we're going for a pee....which have included:

"I'm off to shake hands with a legend"

"I'm off to unleash the beast"

"I need to unpack the punisher"

"I need to give both inches some air"

....you get the picture lol

Yep.

And now I have a question for you: How on earth is the alphabet song supposed to rhyme when you guys say "zed" instead of "zee?"

Canadians say "zed"? I've always said "zee"! How the hell can it be zed? The alphabet rhymes!

There are some words that I can not stand how some Canadians pronounce. Like the word "been". I say "bin" not "bean" and I also pronounce "sorry" like "sari". "sowrey" sounds so weird.

As for the original question, I think I mostly say "washroom"...but I'm pretty sure I use "bathroom" too.

I will agree with everyone else here: Choice A out in public and choice C at someone's home. Choice D would be men's/ladies' room which is also used in public. I've never heard any American say "washroom".

They say washroom in Chicago. I picked that up when I lived there, but since no one in New York calls it that I stopped after living in NYC for a while.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

"I'm going to the lavatory."

Youre welcome. The most proper and best fitting term.

Us Americans dont know thats the proper term, as you can see it wasnt even mentioned. So if you end up saying that, you'll most likely look alien.

You're in a nightclub and you've got to pee. Would you say...

a) "I'm going to the restroom."

b) " I'm going to the washroom."

c) " I'm going to the bathroom."

d) Other (please specify)

Thank you!

Most often I will use A or C. If I'm talking to someone I know then C, someone I don't know (or if I have to ask where it is) likely A.

Of course I may just say "I need to pee" as well. Depends on who I'm talking to and how many drinks I've had. lol

I never call it a washroom. Or toilet.

Carrie nails it - again. lol

It is? I have never heard that expression - and I've lived in the midwest my entire (long) life.

Well, the term "lavator" really means a sink, but I think Webster's has defined it also as a room where there is a wash basin or sink and a toilet. I remember when I was in grammar school, the teacher told us the correct usuage of "lavatory," and told us to use the term "rest room" when we needed to use the toilet. I used to go with a guy from San Antonio, TX and he always said "rest room" regardless.

I would never be in a night club, I hate how elitist they are. But I would use A, bathrooms are at home. Stores, Restaurants have restrooms.
