Anyone watching Cosmos?

Since all 3 episodes so far. I like the way things are presented. Introducing people who shaped the science world of the past that most of us have never heard of. Personally, I can't compare the 2 Cosmos, with Carl Sagan, don't remember it that much but some things look familiar.

Yeah, I know but until other voices get out there, yada, yada yada.o

The other picture was too big. Hope this is better.

I really liked last nights episode, no. 3. I thought the history of Haley, Newton and the evil Robert Hooke was great. smile

All 3 have been full of info. But last night did have me glued. I liked the 2nd episode using dogs in explaining evolution. The approach so accessible, for kids and adults.

I was 15 or 16 when the original Carl Sagan series aired here on Austrian TV, my mom already had a (fucking expensive) VCR and I taped all episodes (on back then fucking expensive VHS tapes)
the show was groundbreaking to me personally and shaped me a lot, I 've seen most episodes repeatedly over the years. awesome

I have just seen a short part of the new series yesterday, but what I saw I liked. definitely will watch the rest

We're making it a family event. We all watch together during dinner and discuss things during ads. I think it's great! Can't recall watching the Sagan eps. but he was ahead of his time. Really Happy with NdGT's hosting. Watched 1 & 2 so far and I really love how they explored evolution through dogs. That was fascinating and TOTALLY clicked with my kids, they totally grasped the concept.

It's a great show!

I’ve really liked all three episodes, & will be sure to watch through to the end and I’ll buy the series when it makes its way to blu-ray. Even though there’s not a lot of new information in the series for me, it’s great to see it packaged in a very appealing way with a decent budget. My only disappointment, & it’s a minor one, is the music, which I thought was a bit too big/bombastic at times & kinda generic overall. I still re-screen the original series from time to time, and the Vangelis piano/theremin theme that pops up throughout is one of my favourite things about it – it’s a little corny, no doubt, but I think it’s perfect, and I wish they would have used it a little in the new series.

it is a good show. It is really close to striking the right tone. It acknowledges the religious based beliefs but still stays on our understanding of science.

but i have only taken the time for most of the first 2... i have heard some of the 3rd and will watch it at some point. But so far it is a really good show.

"The Crab Nebula is about 6,500 light years from Earth. According to some beliefs, that’s the age of the whole universe, but if the universe were only 6,500 years old, how could we see light from anything more distant than the Crab Nebula? We couldn’t. To believe in a universe as young as 6,000 or 7,000 years old is to extinguish the light from most of the galaxy, not to mention the light from all the other hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe." - Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, in Sunday's episode of Cosmos, which focused on the speed of light.

The animated historical parts are funny, and there are a few too many lens flares off the imagination ship... but I'm starting to watch the premiere episode. I remember the original series very well. The soundtrack tot hat was pretty cool.

I knew the sun was not solid because of all the nuclaer fusion going on. But what did surprise me was the fact that Jupiter and Saturn are not solid planets. (Their moons are solid, however.)

I'm sure I studied this at some point but I finished HS in the late seventies so it's been a looong time.

They're still getting decent ratings so I hope that means more good programming and less brain rot going forward.

They all have a fixed number of cells...each species having a different set amount. Younger ones are only smaller because this set amount of cells hasn't expanded yet. Eutely. They're Eutelic organisms. This is fascinating to me for some reason.

I can't watch it on Sunday nights because I'm otherwise occupied with Call the Midwife, Mr. Selfridge and The Bletchley Circle. But I watched it last Monday night on Nat Geo and was absolutely appalled at the number of commercials in the thing. Five minutes of show, five minutes of commercials, five minutes of show, five minutes of commercials, etc. disbelief
