"Binge Watching"

It's the way television is being watched these days from streaming sites. From catching up on shows you haven't had time to see to watching whole seasons of episodes in a few days, it's all the rage!

Recently, I watched season 2 of the hit Netflix Original Program - House of Cards - over the last 3-day weekend. It was intense and gratifying.

Prior to that, Breaking Bad, House of Cards Season 1, Orange is the New Black, American Dad, Family Guy, etc ... It appears to be the only way I watch television lately.

I am actually really glad that shows are being presented in this way. From streaming sites, both free and paid, it has made me able to view what I want to watch, when I want to watch it and how many I want to watch at that time.

What are your binge-watching regulars?

(Oh, and 'Hi' everyone!)

I am trying to savor season 2 House of Cards, so no binging. I think I'll go back to season 1 to extend it. I'm loving that show, I love the opening.

Netflix is doing folks in, heard on the news they're number one(or the only) something that's making lots of money. They just added season 7 Burn Notice which was my show.

Battlestar Galatica got me hooked, I've gone through it 3x. Damages 2x, All the Star Trek episode. Tried to catch on Bones but burnt out on it, and Tudors burnt out, too.

Downton Abbey, The Wire, GoT(which I finally purchased and waiting for season 3), most of the Star Trek movies they make one wait for the dvds so can't binge there.

I did TVD, now I'm hooked on that show, I don't know how that happened.

Non-Netflix, I went through Dracula again. Caught up on OUAT.

I love "Walking Dead"... I have watched the first season multiple times, and have watched the whole show leading up to the new seasons...

I stopped watching "Girlfriends" when it was on the air, so now I DVR it in syndication and watch multiple episodes when I have time.

I still prefer week to week. There's something satisfying about being all caught up on a tv show.

It's a fun show. Did you catch the reunion movie from a couple years back?

I will say that if HBO's Looking gets renewed for a second season I will wait and watch all at once. While the show is interesting the pacing is so slow that 1/2 hour episodes doesn't work. confused

binge watch pick of the day: documentary about paparazzi, multi-media marketing, mass media brainwashing and the deliberately generated public mindset that fame = penultimate good.

It's damn near the only way I watch TV now lol...can't stand those shows that go on a 1-2 month haitus in the middle of a season. Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Firefly, Friends, Will & Grace, The Good Wife, Castle, half of Breaking Bad, The Big Bang Theory, the first 1 1/2 seasons of Lost...all accomplished through binge watching.

It’s funny to me that this is somehow considered a “new” phenomenon as I started binging way back when entire seasons of shows became available on dvd. I didn’t have cable for years and years so when anything good came out on dvd I’d buy or rent them and watch in huge chunks. My first big binge watch, in fact, was Sex and the City and the first few seasons I even had on VHS. lol

In any case, my most recent binge watch shows are:

Breaking Bad (I missed this completely when on the air, now just waiting for the last half of the last season to be streaming on Netflix)

Orange is the New Black

Dexter (I stopped borrowing them from a friend somewhere around season 4 and it’s streaming now)

30 Rock (going back through the catalog. I love Tina Fey and the character of Tracey Jordan just kills me, every single damn line he has)

It's available on DVD. It's fair, but producers couldn't finalize a deal with Mandy Patinkin, so his character Rube is replaced by a new Reaper.

I forgot those...I also watched Dexter and 30 Rock through binge watching. And I agree completely with Tracey Jordan lol...

Report: 2% of Netflix Users Binged All of House of Cards Season 2 ASAP — Are You Done Yet?

Get More: News, Premieres, Ratings

House of Cards Ratings

Two percent of Netflix’s 33.4 million U.S. subscribers – or about 670,000 people – binge-watched all 13 episodes of House of CardsSeason 2 during its first weekend , according to a report by Procera Networks, which solicits and analyses bandwidth usage data from multiple Internet service providers.

Netflix rather famously — and to the frustration of its broadcast/cable rivals — does not disclose viewing data.

Procera also reports that between 6 and 10 percent of Netflix’s U.S. subscribers watched at least one episode of House of Cards — marking a 400 percent increase over Season 1′s opening weekend — while the average number of hours consumed was three.

In Europe, the average number of episodes binged was five, with 1 percent of subscribers consuming the whole season.

Procera also notes that, interestingly but in keeping with past trends, there was no statistically significant increase in overall Netflix traffic in the wake of this new release.

House of Cards was renewed for Season 3 well before its sophomore run dropped on Valentine’s Day.

Keeping on the House of Cards topic - President Obama recently made headlines that he is hooked on this show and even tweeted, "No Spoilers Please"! How's that for an endorsement!

Well in my city, 130% of the population wants to impeach him, or it sounds that way listening to them talk.

Kevin Spacey's looks into the camera are priceless. The one during the civil war reenactment, though very brief, was a nice bit of comic relief.

President Obama, better not be taking pointers that's all I got to say. That Spacey's one evil puppy right there.

DONT' READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU'RE NOT ON THE SECOND SEASON, OR AT LEAST PAST THE FIRST EPISODE OF THE SECOND SEASON.

First episode of the second season, at the end of the episode, when he looked into the camera just after doing what he did in the subway ... and said, "Oh, I haven't forgotten you" .... that was fucking PRICELESS! I got goosebumps!

This is my limit. I did more than that once when rewatching an old season of Mad Men and the individual impact of each episode was lost for me. I need at least a little time in between to properly ponder and savor each episode.

Having said that, the last series I watched in a much shorter time frame than when it aired was the first season of Orphan Black over the Christmas holidays. Loved it. heart

Love to binge on shows! Only maybe 3 episodes a couple of days of the week till I finish the season. Recently got into American Horror Story. Finished the first two seasons in a couple of days. I didn't watch it when it aired on t.v. I also like to revisit old T.V shows like Ally McBeal, My So Called Life or Twin Peaks. Great nostalgia.

Unless I'm making it a regular social gathering to watch episodes with friends, I'm terrible at keeping up with shows these days, so if it is something I'm interested in I often binge watch a lot of episodes at once until my eyes hurt on a day when there's nothing to do. dead

If you will, so will I
