H&R Block immediately comes to mind. There must be a ton of options, though. confuse

I can't offer much insight. I've always done mine privately.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I assume that you're asking where to file for your income taxes?

It all depends on your personal situation.

If you have no complications - investments, real estate, etc, - & you'd be filing a 1040EZ form, then filing yourself is the best way. You can get the paper forms for free at your local library & fill them out yourself. Not really "easy" but not brain surgery either. I did that from ages 18 through 30 (when I bought a house).

When I bought my house I went to an accountant. I figured it would be complicated.
NOT. Paid him $140 to fill out the same 1040 form that I could have done myself.

That's when I started doing TurboTax. It's the simplest thing in the world. They ask you all the relevant questions. I did that for 10 years.

Now with my separation & stuff, I went to H&R Block. They know all the tax rules that apply to my situation (sharing the kids as dependents, etc.).

My buddy last year tried using TurboTax, but he wound up with a tax BILL even though he made little money and didn't own anything. So he went to H&R Block. They revealed to him that his wife's Avon business - which made very little - afforded him certain tax relief and he wound up getting a REFUND.

So...like I said...all depends on your situation & needs.

I struck gold. My neighbour works for Revenue Canada. She does my taxes, which have gotten a bit nutty with me now living and working as an expat. And all I ever owe her is a decent bottle of wine. smile

I used to do my own before I bought a house. After that I went to a tax filing service, but I got tired of giving them all that money so I started using Turbo Tax. It was simple and didn't take all day. However, when my parents died and left considerable inheritances, I have my brother do them now. He's pretty savvy with that sort of stuff. So if you have a complicated portfolio or lots of investments, hire a professional. If you don't, use a software program or do it yourself with the forms.

Since I'm getting my W2's this Friday, I'm gonna be doing my taxes on TaxAct.com. It's so simple, they ask questions and you answer them. Easy as making scrambled eggs or ramen noodles. As for the state taxes they offer to do them for you too, but I think it costs you. Personally I'd do them myself since even the state taxes are easy to do.

I just filed my federal, no charge. When I tried to print my state sheet (since they charge for e-file) they wanted to charge me just to print. No way. It was free to print before, why they decided to charge for printing is beyond me. So I tried to do the long form and now I'm all frustrated, I can see where they gave me a credit but on the long form it's confusing and each time it's a 0-85= -85 and that can't be right since I'm supposed to get the $85 as a refundable credit. I'll try again tommorrow, if I keep at it tonight I might get pissed off because I'm not getting it. confused
