Winter TV Preview

New Shows

Kim of Queens
Debuts: Wednesday, January 1 at 10 PM ET on Lifetime
What Is It? Beauty pageant coach Kim Gravel scopes out possible contestants and primps and primes them to be winners in this new reality show.
Should You Watch? It's certainly less creepy than Toddlers & Tiaras, but you should still invest your precious television time elsewhere.

The Assets
Debuts: Thursday, January 2 at 10 PM ET on ABC
What Is It? Based on the book real-life events from the book Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed, this eight-part miniseries follows the story of CIA counter-intelligence officer Sandy Grimes (Jodie Whittaker) and her partner Jeanne Vertefeuille (Harriet Walter) finding notorious mole Aldrich Ames (Paul Rhys) in 1985.
Should You Watch? This is a fascinating piece of history that's wisely told as a miniseries (it's all it needs, really), so it's definitely worth your time.

Wolf Watch
Debuts: Monday, January 6 at 11 PM ET on MTV
What Is It? Taking cues from AMC and post-show talk shows like Talking Dead, MTV is getting in on the act with this Teen Wolf discussion series hosted by Jill Wagner.
Should You Watch? Only if you watch Teen Wolf… otherwise why in the world would you?

Intelligence
Debuts: Tuesday, January 7 at 9 PM ET on CBS
What Is It? Lost star Josh Holloway plays a high-tech intelligence operative who has a computer chip implanted in his head, allowing him access to Internet, telephone and satellite data. His ability to hack into any database proves to make him an asset in fighting American enemies. The high-tech procedural also stars Marg Helgenberger and Meghan Ory.
Should You Watch? A few years ago this would have seemed like an innovative idea, but between inventions like Google Glass and the fact that we're all on the Internet… oh, all the time, this doesn't seem all that thrilling. Pass.

Being Mary Jane
Debuts: Tuesday, January 7 at 10 PM ET on BET
What Is It? From the successful TV movie of the same name, Gabrielle Union plays Mary Jane Paul, a popular TV news anchor balancing her career and personal life.
Should You Watch? Union is always great, and, hey, even if the show isn't very good it will still be infinitely better than The Newsroom. Give it a few episodes, for sure.

Right

Killer Women
Debuts: Tuesday, January 7 at 10 PM ET on ABC
What Is It? Molly, Texas Ranger, more or less. Tricia Helfer plays Molly, a no-nonsense Texas ranger who must deal with sexism on the force, all while trying to get through her own divorce.
Should You Watch? If tough, sassy ladies not takin' any guff rev your engines, this show (from executive producer Sofia Vergara) should be right up your alley, pardner. We'll be tuning in for the pilot to see if the show has enough brains to match its brass.

Chicago PD
Debuts: Wednesday, January 8 at 10 PM ET on NBC
What Is It? A police drama that follows the brave men and women who protect and serve in Chicago's District 21.
Should You Watch? Sure, it's another police procedural, but this one is from Law & Order's Dick Wolf -- a guy who knows what he's doing when it comes to these things -- so it's certainly worth checking out.

The Spoils of Babylon
Debuts: Thursday, January 9 at 10 PM ET on IFC
What Is It? Will Ferrell plays a famed fictitious author named Eric Jonrosh whose saga The Spoils of Babylon follows the lives of wealthy oil tycoon family the Morehouses over the span of many years. The Morehouse clan is played by, among others, Kristen Wiig, Tim Robbins, Tobey Maguire and Haley Joel Osment.
Should You Watch? Yep. This six-episode Funny or Die production looks downright absurd… in the best way possible.

Enlisted
Debuts: Friday, January 10 at 9:30 PM ET on Fox
What Is It? Three brothers (played by Geoff Stults, Chris Lowell and Randy Hill) must learn to live and work together at the same Army base in Florida.
Should You Watch? It probably won't be the next M.A.S.H., but it could be worth a go. Then again, considering the fact that it's been deployed to the no man's land of Friday night programming, maybe it's best not to get invested at all.

Helix
Debuts: Friday, January 10 at 10 PM ET on Syfy
What Is It? A team of scientists lead by Dr. Alan Farragut (Billy Campbell) at the Centers for Disease Control travel to the Arctic to research and investigate a possible disease outbreak. Of course, nothing goes quite as planned and the team find themselves in some seriously dangerous territory.
Should You Watch? You mean Contagion on Ice? Maybe if they had turned this into a miniseries or a TV movie, but we can't help but wonder how sustainable it will be.

True Detective
Debuts: Sunday, January 12 at 9 PM ET on HBO
What Is It? An eight-part drama that chronicles two detectives (played by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey) over the course of 17 years as they hunt a serial killer in Louisiana.
Should You Watch? Yes. 100%. Do not miss this. This is not only an inventive new take on the serialized police drama genre, but it stars two actors currently at the top of their game.

Don't Trust Andrew Mayne
Debuts: Monday, January 13 at 10 PM ET on A&E
What Is It? Magician Andrew Mayne helps people get "revenge" on people they've been spurned by with his illusions and trickery. He teaches "lessons" by making these alleged wrong-doers think their phones have been destroyed or their cars have disappeared, among other fake-outs.
Should You Watch? Magic specials have their appeal, no doubt, but watching people get punked by magic for weeks on end just seems grating. Don't trust the magicians on A&E.

Bitten
Debuts: Monday, January 13 at 10 PM ET on Syfy
What Is It? Move over, Teen Wolf, now there's Lady Wolf! Based on Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld novels, Bitten follows the world's only female werewolf Elena Michaels (played by Laura Vandervoort) as she leaves her Pack to try out life in the big city.
Should You Watch? Between Teen Wolf and the Twilight saga, we're honestly a little werewolf-ed out at this point, but we should all support something that flips the script on traditional gender roles in entertainment. Take a bite out of the first few episodes at least.

Chozen
Debuts: Monday, January 13 at 10:30 PM ET on FX
What Is It? A gay, white rapper named Chozen is recently released from prison and wants to use his recent experience to claim his spot as the world's top hip hop artist. Featuring the voice work of Bobby Moynihan, Method Man, Nick Swardson, Kathryn Hahn, Michael Pena and Hannibal Buress, Chozen's music turns the tables on the misogynistic rap that often dominates the industry.
Should You Watch? Definitely, this concept sounds as fresh as Chozen's rhymes.

Under the Gunn
Debuts: Thursday, January 16 at 9 PM ET on Lifetime
What Is It? The best thing about Project Runway, Tim Gunn, gets his own fashion competition series on Lifetime. Gunn hosts the show, in which former Project Runway contestants Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos manage their burgeoning fashion empires with a team of their own designers to guide. Gunn will act as host and mentor.
Should You Watch? Are you kidding? Of course you should. You can never have enough Tim Gunn in your life.

HitRECORD on TV!
Debuts: Saturday, January 18 at 10 PM ET on Pivot
What Is It? Joseph Gordon-Levitt's passion project HitRECORD hits the small screen in this inventive, collaborative half-hour variety shows which features everything from short films to animation to musical performances from artists all over.
Should You Watch? If you can find Pivot on your television dial, it's worth checking out for a few episodes.

Rich Kids of Beverly Hills
Debuts: Sunday, January 19 at 10 PM ET on E!
What Is It? Bratty, spoiled, out-of-touch twenty-somethings show off their tremendous wealth (well… their parents tremendous wealth) for the cameras.
Should You Watch? A word these entitled monsters have never heard in their lives: NO.

Looking
Debuts: Sunday, January 19 at 10:30 PM ET on HBO
What Is It? Looking follows three gay men (played by Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett) as they try to find their way through work, sex, love and life in San Francisco.
Should You Watch? Yep, this daring new series is definitely worth a look.

Opposite Worlds
Debuts: Tuesday, January 22 at 10 PM ET on Syfy
What Is It? This is a new (albeit, sorta confusing) breed of reality competition series in which 14 people face off in opposing teams separated in a house that's divided by the past and the future. The series runs over the course of six weeks (including one live episode per week) and viewers will be asked to participate in weekly challenges, as well as determine the fate of the winner.
Should You Watch? If you can figure out just what the hell this show is about, by all means.

Broad City
Debuts: Tuesday, January 22 at 10:30 PM ET on Comedy Central
What Is It? UCB alums Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson play two gal pals navigating their way through New York City in their twenties.
Should You Watch? It has Amy Poehler's seal of approval (she's an executive producer on the series), so what more incentive do you need to watch?

Rake
Debuts: Wednesday, January 23 at 9 PM ET on Fox
What Is It? Based on the Australian show of the same name, Rake follows Keegan Deane (played by Greg Kinnear here in the U.S. of A), a messy human disaster area who also happens to be a criminal defense lawyer.
Should You Watch? American-remade imports are always hit-or-miss, but anything starring Greg Kinnear should be given a shot.

The Capones
Debuts: Tuesday, January 28 at 10 PM ET on Reelz
What Is It? Descendants of notorious mobster Al Capone run an Italian restaurant in Chicago in this new reality series.
Should You Watch? Fuhgettaboutit. No really -- forget this thing even exists.

Star-Crossed
Debuts: Monday, February 17 at 8 PM ET on The CW
What Is It? Human Emery (Aimee Teegarden) and alien Roman (Matt Lanter) may be from different planets, but their lifelong bond and eventual romance is something out of this world. (Sorry.)
Should You Watch? Lanter and Teegarden are appealing leads, even if the plot is ridiculous. It's worth watching to see if their chemistry can withstand the silly concept.

The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon
Debuts: Monday, February 17 at 11:35 PM ET on NBC
What Is It? Barring Jay Leno changing his mind again and pulling a fast one on Jimmy Fallon a la Conan O'Brien, Fallon will take over as the sixth host of The Tonight Show (if you're counting Jay twice).
Should You Watch? Fallon may more or less have the same interviewing skills as current host Leno (that is to say, very giggly with no hard-hitting questions), but he's got him beat in just about every other facet of late night TV. Fallon's band (The Roots) rocks, his comedy bits go viral, and he gets his guests to play along with his antics. You should definitely watch, because for the first time since Conan took over, The Tonight Show will be fun again.

Late Night with Seth Meyers
Debuts: Monday, February 24 at 12:35 AM ET on NBC
What Is It? Fallon out, Meyers in. Just like they did at the Weekend Update desk on Saturday Night Live, Fallon will pass the torch to Meyers on Late Night.
Should You Watch? Late Night has always been an edgier place to try out comedy, so you'll definitely want to see how Meyers fares in that environment. Plus, you never know… Stefon just might stop by to see his favorite guy!

Mixology
Debuts: Wednesday, February 26 at 9:30 PM ET on ABC
What Is It? Perhaps the most high-concept comedy since How I Met Your Mother, Mixologyfollows ten people over the course of one night in a bar. Each episode will follow a different person, all leading up to the season finale that lets us know where these characters wound up at the end of said night.
Should You Watch? It's a fascinating concept, but a limiting one. Is there a new cast come Season 2? Or does it just catch up with them the morning after? Ah, we're getting ahead of ourselves… we'll watch Season 1 and you should give it a shot, too.

Right

Review with Forrest MacNeil
Debuts: Thursday, February 27 at 10 PM ET on Comedy Central
What Is It? Based on the Australian series Review with Myles Barlow, comedian Andrew Daly plays Forrest MacNeil, a television host who reviews real-life matters rather than art.
Should You Watch? It's a clever take on talk shows that's definitely worth a try.

The Red Road
Debuts: Date TBD on the Sundance Channel
What Is It? A New Jersey cop and family man (Martin Henderson) who deals with two clashing communities: his small hometown and the neighboring Native American tribe. After a shocking tragedy is covered up, he joins forces with a member of the tribe (played by Jason Momoa). The drama also stars Julianne Nicholson, Lisa Bonet and Tom Sizemore.
Should You Watch? Between Top of the Lake and Rectify, the Sundance Channel is quickly turning into an AMC-level cable network. The Red Road looks like another can't miss series.

Sirens
Debuts: Thursday, March 6 at 10 PM ET on USA
What Is It? A single-camera comedy based on the U.K. of the same name has been adapted for American audiences by Denis Leary (Rescue Me) and Bob Fisher (Traffic Light). The show follows three wacky, but talented Chicago EMTs (played by Kevin Bigley, Kevin Daneils and Michael Mosley) on the job.
Should You Watch? Leary wouldn't take on this project if he didn't believe in it, so we say give it a go.

Resurrection
Debuts: Sunday, March 9 at 9 PM ET on ABC
What Is It? The residents of Arcadia, Missouri have their lives turned upside down when their deceased loved ones begin to return and mysteries regarding their deaths -- and their resurrections -- come to light.
Should You Watch? We'll give it a try, but in the meantime you should really watch the similarly-themed French series The Returned (not to be confused with the book Resurrection is actually based on, also called The Returned).

Mind Games
Debuts: Monday, March 10 at 10 PM ET on ABC
What Is It? The Edwards brothers (Steve Zahn and Christian Slater) are partners at an agency that solves their clients' problems using psychological manipulation. Mind games, if you will! Oh, and one of them happens to be a con man, while the other has struggles with bi-polar disorder.
Should You Watch? You should usually watch anything with Steve Zahn, but this one sounds like a hard pass.

The 100
Debuts: Wednesday, March 19 at 9 PM ET on The CW
What Is It? After a nuclear Armageddon made life on Earth inhabitable, the remaining humans move to space. Nearly a hundred years later, a group of 100 juvenile exiles are sent back down to Earth for a secret mission to see if humans can live there again.
Should You Watch? Sorry, but After Earth turned us off to anything even remotely like this latest sci-fi effort. Save yourself and skip.

Friends with Better Lives
Debuts: Monday, March 31 at 9 PM ET on CBS
What Is It? Six friends all at different stages of their lives (married, single, divorced, engaged, etc.) all wonder if the grass is greener on the other side.
Should You Watch? This is more or less the same premise as Friends. In fact, they are calling it Friends and just tacking on a few extra words at the end. Nice try, CBS! That said, the cast (including James Van Der Beek and Brooklyn Decker) definitely has our attention.

TripTank
Debuts: Wednesday, April 2 at 10:30 PM ET on Comedy Central
What Is It? It's a series of trippy animated shorts that are voiced by the likes of Larry David, Zach Galifianakis and Bob Odenkirk, among others.
Should You Watch? If you are in the right mindset, sure, otherwise this is going to feel like a bad acid trip.

Returning Shows

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
Returns: January 1 at 8 PM ET on TLC
What to Expect: As Howard Lee, executive VP of production and development for TLC toldVariety, “As Alana gets older, the dynamic between her parents and sisters is changing. Viewers can look forward to seeing a different side of the family as they embark on this exciting new chapter of their lives.”
Will We Watch It? Our morbid curiosity will get the better of us and we'll tune in every now and then. Especially for June and Sugar Bear's insane nuptials.

Community
Returns:January 2 at 8 PM ET on NBC
What to Expect: After that shaky Season 4, the cult favorite is back… with original show runner Dan Harmon once again at the helm. Jeff (Joel McHale) is also back in the halls of Greendale, but this time as a teacher. Between the return of Harmon's self-aware, pop culture-loving humor that made Community a fan favorite in the first place and the introduction of Breaking Bad's Jonathan Banks to the cast, this should be a welcome return.
Will We Watch It? Pop! Pop! (That's a yes, by the way).

Downton Abbey
Returns: January 5 at 9 PM ET on PBS
What to Expect: Among other story lines, Season 4 will heavily deal with the fallout from Matthew's shocking death, as well as explore romances, including the one true pairing of Bates and Anna. In other words, a whole lot of crying will be had.
Will We Watch It?Don't be daft, of course we will.

The Bachelor
Returns: January 6 at 8 PM ET on ABC
What to Expect: Juan Pablo Galavis -- who was dumped by Bachlorette Desiree -- quickly became a fan favorite, so having him front and center for the new season should make it a hit. (Not to mention this makes him the first long overdue non-Caucasian bachelor). A single father from Miami, Juan Pablo will be wooed by 27 ladies with all the rose ceremonies and staged drama your heart can desire.
Will We Watch It? And miss the 18th season of romantic train wrecks? No way, Jose! (Sorry, Juan).

Teen Wolf
Returns: January 6 at 10 PM ET on MTV
What to Expect: The fate of Jennifer -- sure, Peter technically killed her in the mid-season finale, but don't count her out just yet. Speaking of Peter, we'll see if he gets to be an Alpha he so desperately wants to be like Scott.

Justified
Returns: January 7 at 10 PM ET on FX
What to Expect:The Crowes will be the Big Bad this season thanks to Dewey and the introduction of his family (read: gator farmers from South Florida). Speaking of families, we'll see how Raylan does with newfound fatherhood.
Will We Watch It? That's a big ol' hell yes.

Cougar Town
Returns: January 7 at 10 PM ET on TBS
What to Expect: We'll see where Travis and Laurie's blossoming romance is (blech) and you know, plenty of wine-guzzling from the Cul de Sac crew. Plus, Courtney Cox's Friends co-star Matthew Perry will make an appearance this season!
Will We Watch It? Cougar Town stopped being appointment television when it made the switch to TBS, but it makes for good DVR-it-now-and-watch-it-over-the-weekend fodder.

Shameless
Returns: January 12 at 9 PM ET on Showtime
What to Expect: Oh, those ragtag Gallaghers will be up to no good, no doubt. We'll see how the clan transitions with Fiona having custody over her siblings, Frank's health continually declining, and perhaps, the permanent departure of the enlisted Ian.
Will We Watch It? The Gallaghers aren't the best TV family out there, but watching them always makes us feel better about our own.

Girls
Returns: January 12 at 10 PM ET on HBO
What to Expect: Well, for the Internet to have an opinion on it, that's for sure. But aside from that, we'll catch up with Hannah (now back with Adam) and her pals (sans Charlie, of course).
Will We Watch It? Love it or hate it, Girls is a show you simply can't miss, even if only to pick a side in the great Internet debate.

House of Lies
Returns: January 12 at 10 PM ET on Showtime
What to Expect: If Marty (Golden Globe winner Don Cheadle) will actually make a go of it with Jeanie (Kristen Bell). Plus, we'll finally see some more of Happy Endings star Eliza Coupe on our screens, as she joins the cast along with fellow House of Lies newcomer Mekhi Phifer.<
Will We Watch It? We might do a mid-season DVR catch up, because our Sunday nights are already a little too jam-packed.

Episodes
Returns: January 12 at 10:30 PM ET
What to Expect: The fate of Pucks and all those who work on it, now that Matt's affair with the network head Merc's wife has been discovered.

Will We Watch It? Yes, and you should be, too. Episodes is a smart, shrewd and funny underrated gem of a show.

Switched at Birth
Returns: January 13 at 8 PM ET on ABC Family
What to Expect: From the looks of that finale, it sure seemed like Toby and Nikki went against everyone's wishes and their own better judgment and got hitched. Whatever the outcome, it should cause some major drama.
Will We Watch It? It's a guilty pleasure show that's only needed sparingly.

Lost Girl
Returns: January 13 at 8 PM ET on Syfy
What to Expect: Hopefully some answers about what happened to Bo (and her team) after our heroine was transported to another world by The Wanderer.
Will We Watch It? Girl, please! Of course.

Being Human
Returns: January 13 at 9 PM ET on Syfy
What to Expect:The new season should pick up where we left off: with Josh as a wolf and Aidan reunited with his long-dead wife Suzanna, among other shockers.
Will We Watch It? Lost Girl and Almost Human make for a nice back-to-back night of viewing, so why not.

Archer
Returns: January 13 at 10 PM ET on FX
What to Expect: There's apparently some big shakeups in store at ISIS, but you can still be damn sure the cult animated series will still be as hilarious and gleefully un-PC as ever.
Will We Watch It? Take us to the "Danger Zone", Season 5!

Face Off
Returns:January 14 at 9 PM ET on Syfy
What to Expect: Season 6 of the awesome special effects/make-up competition series will take contestants to places they never expected (including Japan) and make them prove their talents with new and interesting challenges (including a Beauty and the Beast-themed episode) to the judges.
Will We Watch It? Absolutely.

Kroll Show
Returns: Tuesday, January 14 at 10:30 PM ET on Comedy Central
What to Expect: Hopefully a hell of a lot more of Peter Paparazzo, PubLIZity, and Ref Jeff .
Will We Watch It? Even if you're not the biggest fan of Nick Kroll's shtick, there's always a gaggle of guest stars worth tuning in to see.

American Idol
Returns: January 15 at 8 PM ET on Fox
What to Expect: The musical chairs behind the judges' table on Idol has landed on Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and newcomer Harry Connick Jr. for Season 13. In other words, don't expect any Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj diva battles to overshadow the singers this season.
Will We Watch It? You know, now that the focus won't entirely be on the judges, we just might. It really depends on what the talent pool turns out to be like.

Melissa & Joey
Returns: January 15 at 8 PM ET on ABC Family
What to Expect: More family-friendly hijinks from the nostalgia-heavy sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence.
Will We Watch It? Whoa! No!

Suburgatory
Returns: January 15 at 8:30 PM ET on ABC
What to Expect: Hopefully, something a little more upbeat than that bittersweet season finale that left George without his love Dallas and his daughter Tessa, who found solace in her estranged mother Alex.
Will We Watch It? This is a show we always root for, so we'll keep rooting for its characters to find some happy endings.

The Real World
Returns: January 15 at 10 PM ET on MTV
What to Expect: Apparently MTV's motto is "If it's broke… break it a little bit more." The network is revamping the 29th season to have seven strangers picked to live in a house… and then have their exes come and live with them just to ensure that the crazy gets turned to 11. The new season will be called The Real World: Ex-plosion and we sincerely doubt the biggest issue in this house will be if anyone ate the peanut butter.
Will We Watch It? We haven't watched The Real World for the better part of a decade now and this new twist isn't exactly enticing us to come back.

Sherlock
Returns: January 19 at 10 PM ET on PBS
What to Expect: C'mon… you didn't really think that little fall would be the thing that killed Benedict Cumberbatch, did you? Witness Sherlock's sure-to-be joyous (particularly on Tumblr) reunion with Martin Freeman's Watson and watches them solve a trio of brain-teasing cases in the third season.
Will We Watch It? It's elementary, dear readers: yes.

The Following
Returns: January 19 and 20 at 10 PM ET on Fox
What to Expect: Is Joe really dead? Are Claire and Hardy really dead, too? Is EVERYONE on this damn show dead? Will Kevin Bacon even stop looking like he's there for anything than a post-Madoff paycheck? All of those questions and more will be answered (or not!) in Season 2 of The Following.
Will We Watch It? There's more than a lion's share of violent procedurals out there, and The Following ranks pretty low on that list.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians
Returns: TBD in January on E!
What to Expect: If you've passed by a tabloid magazine or, you know, been on the Internet over the past few months you know exactly what's going on with the Kardashians. Khloe is having marital woes with Lamar, Kim got engaged to her baby daddy Kanye, and Kris Jenner ate someone's soul (probably Bruce Jenner's).

Will We Watch It? No way. The Kardashians are everywhere as is, we don't need them taking over our televisions as well.

House of Cards
Returns: February 14 at 12:01 AM ET on Netflix
What to Expect: Vice President Frank Underwood. Say it a few times -- doesn't it just set your taste buds for Oval Office shenanigans a-tinglin'?
Will We Watch It? Yes, but probably not in binge-watch form this time. We'll save that for the return of Orange is the New Black, thanks.

Vikings
Returns: TBD in February on History
What to Expect: Ragnar Lothbrok wasn't in the best shape when we last saw him, so we'll hopefully see what's happened to him -- and with Odin -- in a bloody Season 2.
Will We Watch It? We'll need something to tide us over until Game of Thrones, so sure.

The Americans
Returns: February TBD on FX
What to Expect: The spy serial's killer first season ended in a daring escape, a gunshot wound and a potentially life-changing laundry room discovery. That'll be more than enough to keep our favorite undercover Russian operatives busy for a second year.
Will We Watch It? Yes, if only to see whether Keri Russell once again risked a sophomore season jinx by cutting her hair.

Orphan Black
Returns: April 19 at 9 PM ET on BBC America
What to Expect: Hopefully as much as humanly (or otherwise) about the fate of Sarah Manning and the many clones.
Will We Watch It? Orphan Black was one of our favorite shows of 2013, so you better believe we'll get addicted to the sexy, smart BBC America sci-fi thriller all over again… and again… and again.

Rake is the only one I knew about that I was curios enough about.

The Red Road sounds interesting.

TWO MORE I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO:

1.)

An Inside Look at Black Sails, Coming to Starz

Source: Starz

Starz has brought online this inside look at "Black Sails," premiering on January 25th at 9pm ET/PT.

The pirate adventure centers on the tales of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "Treasure Island." Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver (Luke Arnold). Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day - a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

The series also stars Zach McGowan as rival Captain Charles Vane; Toby Schmitz as Rackham, Vane's right hand; Hannah New as Eleanor Guthrie, a determined young woman who runs the smuggling operation on New Providence; Jessica Parker Kennedy as Max, a tortured young prostitute who sees the dark side of New Providence; Clara Paget as the beautiful but cold-blooded Anne Bonny and Tom Hoppe as Billy Bones, boatswain of Flint's ship.

2.)

Game of Thrones actor to star in Discovery Channel's 'Klondike'

Source: Entertainment Weekly

Here’s a first look at the former Game of Thrones actor in his upcoming Discovery channel miniseries Klondike. The adventure stars Madden and Augustus Prew (The Borgias) as “childhood best friends Bill Haskell and Byron Epstein, who head west in 1897 to seek their fortune in the Yukon Territories during the gold rush, where they face a harrowing journey of adventure, excitement and danger at every turn.”

Madden, who played King in the North Robb Stark on the HBO hit, says he had watched Discovery’s reality show Gold Rush and was impressed by the Klondike script. “It’s epic, and ‘epic’ is a word I use rarely to describe something,” the actor told EW. “It’s a story that’s not really been told. [The character's] situations are so extreme physically and emotionally. I’ve done lots of different [projects] and I’ve never been so excited.”

Madden says the demanding role required mountaineering in bitter cold in Alberta and, during one scene, throwing himself into Grade 4 river rapids. “I tried to convince myself that it’s just a big set and they can turn off these river rapids whenever they wanted,” he said.

Klondike debuts Monday, January 20th on the Discovery Channel. Madden’s next project after Klondike marks a return to the fantasy genre; playing Prince Charming in Disney’s reboot of Cinderella.

The Xmas special was very boring but I thought the season itself was the best since season 1.

Oh yeah, Black Sails, that looked interesting even though I don't have Starz.

I know Madden's probably getting a little tired of snow. I'll probably check this out.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Oh yeah, I re-watched Sherlock because that was a huuuuuuge gap there, I swore I missed a season but nope. And no the fall didn't kill him they showed him on the last episode standing in the cementary. I'd punch him if I were Watson, but I suppose they're a bit too classy for that, so whatever the equivalent is.

I finally got around to watching The House of Cards and I love it, so I'm in and ready to go for this.

The Following I tried but I don't like it at all. At All. It was nothing what I thought it was going to be.

They took Downton Abbey off Netflix stream, it was only up for, what, a month and now they took it off. I missed it. Do I have enough time to catch up by mail? I'm behind by a whole season, my tv scheduling is hopeless.

I'll be watching Downton Abbey later on disc and Girls for sure this winter. I may check out True Detective as well since everyone says it's so awesome.

And yes, yes, YES to season two of Orphan Black, but that is a spring show that begins around the same time as, if not after, the spring season premieres of Game of Thrones and Mad Men which rightfully aren't on this winter list so I don't know why Orphan Black is.

There's also a lot of grammar and formatting errors, TWOP did a shitty job. Especially by leaving out True Detective.

BTW, Game of Thrones, Sunday April 6 people!

Girls is the most controversial show on TV. I love that it's already been renewed for season 4 before season 3 starts. You got to read this recap of the TCA panel.
