I think Tom Hanks should win an oscar

He can't pull off a Daniel Day Lewis (3 wins for Best Actor)

but his performance in Captain Philips is just mesmerzing, it's amazing and his best performance since Forrest Gump!

I think, and I've never seen 12 Years a Slave or Dallas Club yet, he should win an oscar for his role, it's just so worthy of it...

From people who've seen the film, what do you think?

er

I haven't seen it, but I think Hanks should play a bad guy for a change. A camp commander in Abu Graib or something like that.

If Tom Hanks would win another Oscar

that would be 3 wins so he could tie Daniel Day Lewis.

Hanks previously won for his roles in Forrest Gump and Philadelphia.

He has been nominated 5 times.

Why do you think Tom won't pick up a 3rd Best Actor Oscar? He's still young enough to do a ton of Films before he stops slowing down...Now it did take Meryl Streep about 20yrs to win a 3rd Oscar period. But I predict she will win 2 more in her Lifetime. It's not easy winning multiple Oscars because the Voters know that GOOD roles don't come easy for Actors and it makes sense to award an actor that has never won VS giving a 4th & 5th to a Veteran. Denzel will probably turn 70+ before he gets his 3rd Oscar. I will be SHOCKED if Jack Nicholson wins a 4th acting Oscar. There's simply too many Actors out there that have ZERO.

You also have to realize that the Oscars is about promoting the movie business not just acknowledging good work. It doesn't do Hollywood any good to keep giving Oscars to the same old stars. You reward an up and coming actress/actor with an Oscar and hopefully that increases their popularity which translates to more $$$$. Jennifer Lawrence wins an Oscar and now she's Jennifer Lawrence Oscar winner. She must be good she just won an Oscar. If you give Robert DeNiro or Meryl Streep another Oscar it's not going to bring a lot of new fans into the theaters.

I really doubt achieving parity at the Oscars in hopes of making more money is a motivating factor for how Academy members vote. If anything, actors like Streep and Day-Lewis being incredible onscreen starts to lose its power due to them always being incredible onscreen...you kinda stop noticing the level of their performance because, for them, excellence has become the norm. But you see someone like Marisa Tomei being reallly good on screen it's a big surprise, so it sticks with voters. Don't really think anyone was saying "You know, if we can start saying 'Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei' in the ads we'll rake in the dough!"

Captain Phillips was great and Hanks was amazing in it..however I can see The Butler and 12 Years A Slave sharing all the Oscars next year.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Tom Hanks at the very least earned a best actor nomination for the last scene.

It will be interesting to see how these two movies might fare, especially if they compete with one another in some of the same categories. I suspect that Forrest Whittaker will be nominated but I think 12 Years a Slave is going to blow The Butler out of the water.

Trolls be gone!

I predict the ONLY oscar The Butler will take home is "Best Supporting Actress" for Mighty Oprah..I know people are placing their bets on 12 Years a Slave NEW comer Lupita Nyong'o to take home the prize but Oprah's performance in The Butler is def Oscar caliber.
