He was 66.

Clancy’s last book was 2012’s ‘Threat Vector.’

The writer’s publisher told the newspaper that Clancy passed away in a Baltimore hospital near his Maryland home.

Clancy published his first book, "The Hunt for Red October," in 1984. The novel sold more than five million copies, and became the basis for a hit film starring Alec Baldwin.

Though best known for his novels, Clancy began his career working in an independent insurance agency. In 1993, the novelist joined a team of investors to buy the Baltimore Orioles from Eli Jacobs.

:wow: I didn't see that coming. That sux for him, his loved ones, his fans, and the world. He was a good talent and I'm glad that much of him and what he's created will carry in his work. Not likely he can be forgotten and that's good.

I haven't read many of his books, but the ones I have read were pretty good. He will be missed, as I know he had millions of fans worldwide.

I've read most of his books. The movies are NEVER as good and some are as "off" as Stephen King adaptations can be (see "Sum of All Fears". rather, DON'T see... confused )

My favorite book of his is "Debt of Honor". It is FANTASTIC and one I've read several times. The first time was in 1998 and I remember thinking this would make a terrific movie.

Then 9/11 happened...that movie NEVER will. Read it and find out why...
