Because Talent is out while Triflingness is in. disbelief I don't mind shock value, but when it's classless, then it becomes a problem.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Apples and vinegar. The performance above was 10 times better than that mess that went on last night.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Nowhere in the OP does it complain or compare the quality of the performances...it only brings up women being "practically naked" while the men remained fully clothed.

In fact, it says this:

"VMAs why was the theme this year 'practically naked'???

how come the women were acting like strippers at this thing???? the men are wearing clothes so why are the women all naked and shit???"

Personally, I think it's laughable that members of a Prince site are complaining about sexuality and "practically" nudity during an MTV performance lol...Sex and nudity have been part of music performances since before most of the members on here were born.

Can you imagine if Miley did the whole guitar-ejaculating-on-the-audience thing? lol...

Calm down honey, it's not that serious so take the tampon out of your mouth. The issue isn't about nudity, it's about the classlessness of how it's being represented. chill pill

In what alternate reality within which parallel universe are my posts evidence of me needing to "calm down"? lol...

As for as "classlessness", nothing Miley did onstage is any different than what Prince has done on stage. Prince has rubbed his crotch just like Miley did (is there a classy way to rub one's crotch? Thread idea!)...Prince has stuck his guitar between his legs in a sexual manner just like Miley did with the foam finger thingamabob...ok, he has never "twerked" as far as I know lol....but he's shown his bare ass on MTV like Lady Gaga (although she showed a little more of hers)...not to mention the classy ejaculating guitar, the absolutely classy rubbing on the head of the microphone as though it's the head of his dick, and the eloquent and debonair way Prince had Wendy pretend to give him head during a guitar solo thumbs up!.

The issue isn't "class"...it's that someone like Miley Cyrus can't do these things with any authority. Prince does it and it's as natural as breathing. Miley does it and it's awkward and insincere. "Classlessness" has zero to do with it.

I'd just like to say this...

...this was the first VMA where I felt uncomfortable.

Not necessarily because of Miley's antics...but rather that it was MILEY.

My daughter watched her TV show. Same with Selena Gomez.

They are children. Children on par with my children.

When those little girls, uhm, "stir feelings" in me with their antic...it's unsettling.

i don't think it's at all laughable. i think it's a reflection of how far women have yet to come to be taken seriously as artists. remember, as lonvg as there has been MTV and the like, women like madonna, britney spears, lady gaga and miley have felt they need to be mostly nude onstage while performing. this is what they do up there. and far more than their male counterparts.

why do you suppose that is? are they that insecure they feel folks won't listen unless they're nekkid????

i would love to see an awards ceremony where the TALENT of the performers is on show, rather than their naughty bits.

If it was following her playing a mean guitar solo, I'd love it.. I don't have issue with the sexiness/shock value stuff as much as the lack of talent. Nothing that I saw her do on stage was the least bit interesting... At least when Britney Spears started slutting it up in the 00s, she bellydanced with a snake in the process.

If you will, so will I

I felt the same way 30 years ago. One is never too young or too old to appreciate talent.

well, i wish miley had blazed a new trail, avoided the whole sex kitten thing. but maybe that whole sexual display *is* part of what comprises talent these days. lady gaga too. did she really need to wear that thing?

I wish a lot of today's female performers had avoided the sex kitten thing.

There you go. I was never a fan of Prince because he was naked or hearing him say embarrassing stuff, I was a fan despite that stuff. But the fact that he is who he is means that his...challenging behavior more letigimately challenging.

Actually, I think Gaga gets this, too. I am not a huge fan, but at least she is fairly interesting, not just desperate for attention.
