The Cheesiness of the '80s decade

please, help me out with this thread

let's talk (and post) about the things that made the '80s "cheesy"

define "cheesy", anyway, WHAT'S cheesy?

please, help me understand why the '80s are considered the cheesiest decade ever

thanks

I'll begin posting an example of detectable cheesines, although right now I feel lazy and not articulate enough to explain why it's cheesy, even if I know it is:

The montage use in 80's film making is utter crap.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Urban Dictionary definition of cheesiness.

http://www.urbandictionar...erm=cheesy

Examples of '80's cheesiness.

Big hair
Acid washed jeans
Jelly shoes
Miami Vice style

There's just so much! IMHO, the '80's are considered the cheesiest decade because it was the first decade where style really was placed above substance. Style has always been a factor in pop culture, but in the '80's, thanks to MTV, it was broadcast 24-7.

The food that became popular during the decade was literally cheesy: fondue, pizza, cheese burgers, cheese doodles, microwave oven heated food...

it was a BIG decade. big hair was in, big padded shoulders were in, big chest hair was in. big earrings on women. more was better too. we'd wear not just one bracelet, but five. it was cheesy 1980s fashion because back then it aimed for over the top.

The vast majority of hair metal bands were over the top cheesy, with stupid lyrics combined with bad guitar players trying to show off; oh, and crappy synth pop bands were also a major factor. 80s Rod Stewart, along with a horde of other rockers from the 60s and 70s trying to be trendy produced some of the worst music ever made.

I'm sorry, but "Alf" was better than 95% of the TV shows on the air now. lol

batting eyes I would say that future generations will view the 2000's/2010's as "the crappiness" era.

The T-Shirt on the left is a Keith Haring design. An artist who used his creations to support children's and AIDS causes. Died of AIDS at 32. Hate to be Debbie Downer, but had to point that out. http://www.haring.com/!/about-haring#.UUoFEDdfZ8E

The real problem is the music. God I nearly wanted to kill myself when I heard Big Mac.

You can imagine what the future kids are going to say about today... the autotuning, the generic pop songs beats, the revival of 80's fashions, but narrow pants going down to the leggings, the skinny jeans which have devolved into jeggings for guys (which harken back to colonial times or something), the reboots of movies, the constant surfing on smart phones, the novelty food items (taco bells freakin taco made with dorito shells???), the reality shows stemming from American Idol, the reality shows in general! Talkbacks and online communities like Prince.org!!!

and... here we are today:
