This must have occurred at least 5 months ago, a lot could have happened since then. The attacker may already be in prison or dead, hopefully some updates will eventually surface.

sigh Agreed.

Its so upsetting... this teenager could have been shot, he put up with the harrassment because I am sure he may have feared for his very life. So sense in fighting back only to get shot.

sad

They just cornered him... bitchasses. If they were real tough one guy could of walked up on this kid who is smaller than them and just gotten knocked down with one blow. Instead they ganged up on him, bunch of sorry assed bullies!

I hope his parents are out to get their child some justice.

The guy taping it was an accomplice of the thug. Three people have been identified that are connected to the incident. Two people have been arrested.

http://www.philly.com/phi...pping.html

The three involved in the beating have been identified as Ahmad Holt, 22, Raheem Clark, 31; and Jamaar Gray, 23. Police said Holt administered the beating, using a belt provided by Clark. Charges include robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy.

According to the Newark Star Ledger, Gray - who recorded the beating and splashed water on the victim - surrendered with his lawyer Tuesday. Clark was arrested by the city's fugitive apprehension team. Grey's girlfriend, Nicole Smith, was also arrested after police allegedly found her in possession of 20 decks of heroin, according to the newspaper.

GRAPHIC: Man stripped naked and beaten...4 Arrested!!!

Posted on: 12:00 pm, February 13, 2013, by Web Staff, updated on: 09:50pm, February 13, 2013

**WARNING: SOME VIEWERS MAY FIND THIS VIDEO DISTURBING**

(CNN) — Footage of the beating of a New Jersey man, who was forced to strip naked for a belt-whipping over an apparent $20 debt, has garnered the attention of Newark city officials after the online video went viral.

“Take everything off right now. You’re moving too slow,” a man yelled in shaky cell phone video, which shows him whipping the naked victim as others crowd around.

Moments before the August assault, a man handed the assailant his belt as the cameraman appears to spray the victim, now 21, with a clear liquid.

“Your father owe me money. Take everything off, jeans, everything,” the male voice said. The video then shows the man being whipped 49 times as others laugh in what appears to be a gang-related attack, according to Newark Police Director Samuel A. DeMaio.

Three men were charged for aggravated assault, conspiracy, possession of a weapon, and robbery after they allegedly stole $20 from the victim. A woman who was present during the attack has also been arrested on drug charges.

On Wednesday, Newark Mayor Cory Booker called the incident “shocking,” “disturbing” and “a blow to the conscious of our community.” He said it points to a “subculture of violence we have to address.”

“This is not who we are,” said Booker, who then admonished those who may have witnessed the attack, but failed to report it.

“We do not tolerate this level of cruelty.”

The victim’s father apparently owed the assailant $20, according to police and multiple voices heard on the video.

Newark Councilman Ronald Rice called the video “a documentation of our dysfunction.”

NEWARK — A 22-year-old Newark man, who was last released from prison just seven months ago, has been identified as the star of a viral YouTube video showing a naked Newark man being viciously whipped over a $20 debt, police said today.

Ahmad Holt was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy and robbery in connection with the brutal video, which gained national attention and drew more than 40,000 views on YouTube before it was removed from the web site, Police Director Samuel DeMaio said today.

The alleged cameraman, Jamaar Grey, and another man named Raheem Clark have also been charged in the crime, according to DeMaio. Grey surrendered with his attorney on Tuesday while Clark was arrested by the city's fugitive apprehension team. Grey's girlfriend, Nicole Smith, was also arrested after police allegedly found her in possession of 20 decks of heroin, DeMaio said.

Holt was already incarcerated at the Central Reception & Assignment Facility in Trenton on an undisclosed charge, records show. He was arrested on Feb. 5th, just days before the video went viral.

The act has enraged city police and drawn national attention since it was posted to YouTube last week. Mayor Cory Booker called the videotape of the beating a "human tragedy," and banged his hands in frustration during his remarks at today's press conference, causing microphones to feedback.

"We do not tolerate this type of evil in the community," he said. "This is not who we are."

North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos thanked Newark police officials for making the arrest and condemned the action of the people involved in the assault.

"I'm sick and tired of seeing this national trend of young men engaging in such unacceptable behavior and then posting it for all to see as if it were a sport," Ramos said.

DeMaio said the attack happened in August of 2012, but police were not made aware of the video until last week. Public records show Holt was last released from prison on July 30, 2012, meaning he was free for only a few weeks before the attack was filmed.

The two-and-a-half-minute long video shows the man cornered by at least three others in a Newark alley, being forced to strip naked as he's berated and cursed at. Holt demands money from the victim, whose father was apparently in debt to Holt, while the cameraman splashes water on his naked body.

After he takes a belt from someone else, Holt proceeds to viciously whip the man for 90 seconds while ordering to yell the phrase "Doggy Dawg" and to tell the camera that it is a "Doggy Dawg" world. DeMaio said "Doggy Dawg" is a street name used by Holt, and said all three suspects have known gang affiliations.

newark-beating-video-screen-grab.jpgA screen grab from a YouTube video shows a man as he is being forced to strip naked . Shortly afterward, the man is beaten repeatedly with a belt. One man has been charged and two others have been arrested.

Officials declined to comment on the motive behind the crime. DeMaio described the victim as a 21-year-old Newark who was "reluctantly cooperative" when he was contacted by police last week. The victim has since moved out of the area.

The video went viral after it was posted to YouTube and WorldStarHipHop.com last week, but it has since been removed from both web sites. Police do not know who uploaded the video.

Holt served roughly 18 months in prison, according to public records, after he was charged with eluding police, drug distribution and weapons possession in December 2010. Records show he was incarcerated again on Feb. 5, less than two days before the video went viral. It is unclear why he was arrested earlier this month.

Not surprised the video didn't get uploaded until after the guy went to jail, I figured there had to be a reason for the 5-month delay. Glad the victim moved away.

Booker Assails an Attack and Those Who Kept Silent

NEWARK — Beating his fist on a lectern Wednesday, Mayor Cory A. Booker railed not only at three men charged with forcing another man to strip naked before savagely whipping him and capturing it on video, but especially at those who knew about the attack and did not tell the police.

Mel Evans/Associated Press

Mayor Cory A. Booker at a news conference Wednesday.

“In the face of evil, those who remain quiet are participants in that evil,” Mr. Booker said. “We’re better than this.”

Mr. Booker, a Democratic Senate candidate who has made improving the hardscrabble image of the state’s largest city a cornerstone of his two terms as mayor, held a news conference at the police communications center to address the crime, which took place in August and came to the attention of the police on Friday.

The Newark police identified the three suspects over the weekend after they saw the video, which had been viewed widely. The video, which has been removed from YouTube, shows the thin victim cowering as he is slashed with a belt. In between the cracking sounds of the belt’s striking flesh, the laughter of accomplices can be heard.

The suspects, all from Newark, are each charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. The police said Ahmad Holt, 22, did the whipping and was incarcerated in Trenton on an unrelated charge. Raheem Clark, 31, is accused of giving Mr. Holt his belt, the police said, and was arrested in Newark on Tuesday. The police said that the cameraman, who can be seen squirting water on the victim, was Jamaar Gray, 23, and that he turned himself in on Tuesday.

For Mr. Booker, the fact that this attack went unreported for months despite being witnessed, videotaped and uploaded added insult to injury. On Wednesday, he struck the lectern, sending a loud bleat of microphone feedback through speakers.

“Others saw this brutality and said nothing; this vicious crime was not reported,” he said, also paraphrasing the dictum attributed to the British orator Edmund Burke: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Newark’s police director, Samuel DeMaio, said that after the police saw the video, they identified the spot where the assault took place as an alley off Irvine Turner Boulevard. Mr. DeMaio said officers canvassed the neighborhood and found several people who knew about the attack, then used that information to find the victim, who the police said was 21 and had moved away out of concern for his safety. Mr. DeMaio said the victim had not reported the assault because he feared his assailants.

The police director said the victim’s father had owed $20 to the suspects, who all had gang affiliations and had stolen that amount from the victim.

Carolyn Murray, acting prosecutor for Essex County, said the men could each face 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted of armed robbery, and 5 to 10 years if convicted of aggravated assault. They could also be charged with crimes for uploading the video, she said, but it was unclear who had uploaded the video.

Of more than a dozen people interviewed on Wednesday afternoon near the spot where the victim was whipped, none would give their names. A young man who said he had seen the assault described it as “not a big deal,” adding, “The mayor just made it a problem because it made him look bad.”

Mr. Booker said he had received hundreds of calls, e-mails and Twitter messages from people who had seen the video and were aghast.

“There is a brutal culture in this community,” he said. “It’s not the city’s culture, but it’s a subculture of violence and crime. And the reality is it’s something I think we could fight a lot better if more people who were not involved found a way to speak up, engage and do something.”

A video shows a 21-year-old being forced to strip and then whipped with a belt, supposedly because his father owed someone $20.

NEWARK, N.J. — The haunting video, shot on a hot summer night, starts with a young man being ordered to strip naked as he is berated by a group around him.

One person squirts his body with water. Another demands money.

When he does not hand any over, the beating starts. As the naked man is lashed repeatedly, those surrounding him laugh above the crack of a belt hitting his skin.

City officials announced Wednesday that they had arrested three people they say participated in the August attack and filmed the 2 1/2-minute video.

The men were identified as 22-year-old Ahmad Holt, 31-year-old Raheem Clark and 23-year-old Jamaar Gray. Charges against them include robbery and aggravated assault. Police said Holt administered the beating, using a belt provided by Clark.

City police Director Samuel DeMaio said all have gang affiliations and criminal histories.

"This is a human tragedy," Mayor Cory Booker said at a press conference. "This is the kind of violence and brutality that we've seen rear its ugly head in Newark, around the nation, around the globe, that allows one human being to assault the dignity, to demean and to viciously attack another. And I believe, for one, that this is unacceptable behavior. I know the standards in the community are the same."

Police did not immediately provide the names of the suspects' attorneys.

DeMaio said the video didn't come to the attention of police until Feb. 8. It is unclear when it was posted on the Internet, and has since been removed from YouTube.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said her office's cybercrimes unit is investigating the upload of the video.

The victim, now 21, "reluctantly" cooperated with police, DiMaio said. He has since moved out of the neighborhood where the beating took place out of fear of retaliation.

but damn these were men??? These guys are older than I expected them to be. Where's the maturity that you have to sweat 20 dollars from anyone? You have to gang up on, whip and berate somebody's son who owes you 20 fucking dollars?

If YOU and your homies (who are 23-31 years old!!!) are sweating 20 dollars that hard then its time someone should whip your asses for being scrubs.

If YOU and your homies (who are 23-31 years old!!!) are sweating 20 dollars that hard then its time someone should whip your asses for being scrubs.
