Screen Gems Moves Forward on 'Think Like a Man' Sequel (Exclusive)

Screen Gems is moving ahead with a sequel to Think Like a Man, its hit movie based on the Steve Harvey book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, closing deals with Keith Merryman and David A. Newman to write the script.

Merryman and Newman write the first movie, which made Hollywood notice star Kevin Hart and grossed over $91 million domestically when it was released in April 20.

The movie followed four couples where the women use Harvey’s advice to reign in their men.

Will Packer will return to produce via his Rainforest Films banner. Harvey is executive producing on the project alongside Rushion McDonald and Rob Hardy.

It is unclear which castmembers will return at this stage, although Hart is a likely candidate, since he just joined Screen Gem’s About Last Night remake.

Screen Gems has greenlit the sequel but has not dated it.

Merryman and Newman, repped by APA, Circle of Confusion and Stone, Meyer, also wrote Friends with Benefits, which starred Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

Is Steve Harvey the new Tyler Perry????????

The movie was just okay, more like those other many bland romantic movies that come out now and then, but folks were acting like this movie was the best thing since "The Best Man" or something when it clearly was far from it.

A predominately black cast movie with nobody gettin' drug across the floor by their hair, no windows gettin' busted out and nobody taking a bat to nobody. A bunch of cute attractive people doing everyday things, no it wasn't a masterpiece of fine movie making but it was some different and ordinary at the same time.

Just because it was a predominately black cast movie of cuties and quality actors doesn't mean that I'm supposed to jump for joy either. To me, the movie wasn't that great. If you liked it, that's fine. I'm just saying that folks that I knew were hyping the movie up to be this great movie when it was just mediocre at best. I just don't settle for less, it could had been better. We can agree to disagree. thumbs up!

Nah, I'm not saying you had to like, I can see your point. I'm just saying why I think folks were all hyped about it. It was diverse and appealled to another segment of the population.

To the troll's comment. I never said he was the next Tyler. I was asking he could possibly be turning into the next Tyler.....His movie was compared to Tyler's when it set a record for the first weekend opening numbers that beat Tyler's. That is why i said it..rolleyes

But why would you even compare those two from ONE movie?? Again, your reasoning doesnt make sense. Hey, Avengers broke opening weekend numbers too, so maybe Joss Whedon is the next Tyler Perry!! :disbelief:

Apparently, you just like making shit up and having dumb things to say.

I was comparing Steve to Tyler. When he first started making movies he made it out of one of his plays & it caught on. Now Steve has a movie made out of his book. Plus he has a second book also, which is what the sequel may be modeled after & may start a series of movies.. But why am I explaining this to U? Its useless! U will always find something to complain about. U always comb through everything I post & critique it. U are such a miserable non factor its ridiculous. Stay off my threads!! If they bother U that much.

Well, he's an obsessive idiot. What else would you expect? He constantly fantasizes about being in a 3-way with Will Smith and Prince, and just can't stand it when someone challenges him on some of the insane butt-kissing ramblings he frequently goes on.

I see what you mean. It was just a standard Rom Com for folks to kick back and relax to. It's right up there with the movies "He's Just Not That Into You" or "Friends With Benefits" in terms of genre and demographic, and I don't think people were hyped that it was supposed to be on par with Raisin In the Sun or some thought provoking, cinematic masterpiece, seems they were just stoked to have a standard, regular ole "not so serious" romantic comedy that they could see that was clean, entertaining, and well produced with beautiful black people. There's room for all of it I would think; the serious, the not so serious, the light comedies, the thought provoking social commentaries. There's room at the table for everyone with plenty of dishes for all to feast. coffee

Exactly. Terrible movie about a terrible book.

But Stymie the book wasn't that bad. lol i gave it to one of my girls at home in the US cause she liked Steve's stand-up comedy, and she liked it. She said could identify with a lot of what was inside and let me read it after she did. I had some cultural "disjoints" if you will cause I've been away from home for so long I didn't know what the dating landscape was like, but most of what he wrote about was common sense, or what used to be common sense (he didn't re-invent the wheel, but it was okay).

Basically Harvey just explained the mindset of men to women and tried to encourage them to have healthy self-esteem, not throw their vaginas out to the first Tom & Dick & Larry they meet (cause men will take it and use it for all its worth if you're not careful), and set high standards for what they want out of a relationship. Seems Harvey had an asshole past, and now that his daughters are grown and dating, he wanted to share this information with them on what to look out for in terms of what kinds of dudes were serious or just players, and how to be very clear about going for what they know while still being discerning, yet not made of ice, and most importantly not to fall into any traps dudes will set. He's telling his daughters (and readers) how to know you're dealing with a good man, because he wasn't one in the past, knows their MO very well, and had to work hard to finally grow up and become responsible & mature. I know people don't like Steve Harvey, but he never said anything really offensive in the book (although we know he is country as hell), and was actually encouraging women to go for what they know in a positive fashion. It's clear he used to be a pr**k, but can't people change and want to do better, or encourage everyone around them to do better? Like I said, he didn't re-invent the wheel with this book by any stretch of the imagination, but I think his head was in the right place when he wrote it.

...and I also think the book needs to gifted to every single last cast member of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. evillol I know I said earlier that the book was common sense, but having seen that show, Girl.... the more I think about it, common sense really ain't as common as we think it is and some women might actually benefit from reading that thing lol

The book is successful. Because every women of every color wants to know how a masculine man thinks. She wants to know what he wants. This book was mega successful for that reason. It put Steve on every talk show. Made it possible for him to get his own talk show. That is going to debut this September...

Ottie, can't you see I don't want to be rational? lol

The biggest problem I had with it is that it seems to be asking women to be something they are not, to keep up an "act".

Plus I hate Steve Harvey's guts. lol
