Anderson Cooper comes out

Recently, however, I’ve begun to consider whether the unintended outcomes of maintaining my privacy outweigh personal and professional principle. It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something - something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true.

I’ve also been reminded recently that while as a society we are moving toward greater inclusion and equality for all people, the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible. There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear where I stand.

The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.

I have always been very open and honest about this part of my life with my friends, my family, and my colleagues. In a perfect world, I don't think it's anyone else's business, but I do think there is value in standing up and being counted. I’m not an activist, but I am a human being and I don't give that up by being a journalist.

I absolutely hate his giggle.

Also, I don't get why folks are so attracted to this guy.

But, he has the nicest suits.

Why do people feel the need to announce it? It's your business Anderson. The hell with anybody else.

In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue. lol but really, the little school girl laugh gave the hint. I'm happy for him. If only he didn't host a show on the shittiest, most biased news channel of all time.

Anderson is gay? One of the worst-kept secrets in broadcast journalism.

They always call him a "silver fox". I admit I was trying to see the attraction too... I don't get it anymore. lol

You should read the entire article and letter in the provided link. He didn't announce it, a colleague/friend asked for his response to a question/idea. Cooper sent him a letter in response and the friend asked if he could make the letter public. Also, the friend says in his opening that he asked Cooper "for reasons that are probably obvious to most", which implies that he believes most people already knew he was gay. Cooper says he lives an open life in the letter (and the portion of it posted here). He wasn't announcing anything. shrug Such is the world we live in.

I'm not attracted to men, so I can't really comment on his looks. lol But whenever I've caught the guy on anything - a talk show, his own show, guest hosting for Regis - it was clear that he was intelligent and quick witted. That can make up for a lot of ugly. lol

I never heard about him. So, had to look him up wink

I think it's great that he issued this statement. It sends a very clear message, preventing it to become some 'gossip' issue. I think this statement is very important, and I hope many will follow his example. When you manage your outing to the media yourself, it is clear that the media will treat it with much more dignitiy than when you try to hide it. When a celebirty tries to hide it, as if it is dirty, than the media will treat it like dirt.

For many kids who struggle with their sexuality these kind of messages are very important. It sends the message that being gay is not something to feel ashamed abou. And knowing that high profile gay people are treated with respect, makes these kids feel less awkward about themselves.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Can you cite some examples of CNN purposefully extorting facts and showing a bias for a person, group or political party?
