Raw was better again...but it does need Vince.

Surprised as "GM" that Foley only had 1 segment.

They are stretching out the talking parts now to test it for the 3 hour Raw. See if they lose the crowd. The Lauper thing went long with Piper but it paid off.

No Punk on the mic or Shemus. No Christian. No Cody Rhodes. Some focus on tag teams it seems.

Straight up though....A.J. in the Kane mask stole the show! Not even out there for a minute but made a moment on Raw for sure. All hot girls are crazy...but not all crazy girls are hot....lol

Rumors continue to swirl that Randy Orton's continued employment with WWE is in jeopardy following their announcement May 30 that he was being suspended for 60 days for his second violation of the Talent Wellness Program.

F4WOnline.com reports Tuesday that Vince McMahon is livid with Orton, particularly since he was so "outspokenly indifferent" to the suspension. Another source says Orton was hastily benched to ensure that he return before SummerSlam on August 19, but "something happened" shortly after the announcement that infuriated the WWE Chairman. This has led to discussions of Orton not being brought back at all after his suspension concludes.

Former WCW announcer Mark Madden stated last Thursday via Twitter that WWE is looking to terminate their partnership with Orton since he's considered difficult to deal with and due to the belief that his value has plateaued.

There are people within WWE saying Orton's time away from the squared circle 'isn't going to be that big a problem.' For the first time, officials are openly categorizing CM Punk as the second-ranked babyface rather than the two as equals. Many also feel SmackDown's babyface side will be sufficient with Sheamus, Christian, Sin Cara, Rey Mysterio returning soon from suspension and the option to turn Daniel Bryan at a moment's notice. Orton has made and saved a lot of money during his career and resides in an area where he could live comfortably for several years without financial worry. His wife Samantha also comes from a well-to-do family, so not having a steady income is reportedly not a major concern for him.

There is a 'small, vocal pocket' within the sports entertainment organization lobbying for Orton's termination. Those opposing his return feel his lucrative ten-year contract—signed in January 2010—can no longer be justified if he is brought back in a mid-level role. His second suspension hinders WWE from continuing to feature Orton in headline role since a third drug-testing policy infraction would result in automatic termination, or, as some have stated, a "one-year suspension."

In another potential factor, there is concern over the physical state of Orton, who has incurred numerous injuries over his twelve-year career. Some officials believe his body is breaking down and there are questions regarding the state of his neck and spine.

According to SuperLuchas.net, the nine-time world champion's suspension stems from a positive drug test for the anabolic steroid Dianabol, which is banned by the United States Congress under its Controlled Substances Act. However, that is not confirmed. F4WOnline.com says Orton claimed to test positive for a tainted supplement.

I say get rid of his ass!! Let Boreton go to TNA or somewhere!! lol

Better yet, Randy should go to Ring Of Honor. THAT organization has no superstars at all. wink

Blueprint Matt Morgan in talks with WWE. He did not resign with TNA. Last weekend was his last with company.

Could take weeks to sign. Heard info from friend but PWI.com did report he has left TNA.

John Cena's Wife I Believe He Cheated On Me

0619-cenas-1
John Cena's estranged wife is convinced ... the WWE superstar was bangin' around behind her back during the marriage ... and now she's on a mission to prove it in court.

TMZ broke the story ... John blindsided his high school sweetheart Liz Cena with divorce papers back in May after 3 years of marriage.

Now, Liz's attorney Raymond Rafool tells TMZ ... they've been getting tips Cena had been messing around during the marriage ... which, if true, could be grounds for Liz to challenge the prenup.

"We're definitely following up on every lead relative to his being unfaithful before AND after the separation," Rafool says.

So far, it's unclear if Liz's camp has found any real leads.

Calls to John's camp have not been returned.

Sounds like Raw wasn't that great. Glad that Foley's the GM. Though, this was the exact reason why I was trying to avoid the thread, cuz that would've surprised me! lol I was actually hoping they would "fire" Big Johnny only from his executive VP position and not as GM.

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer was asked by a reader during his radio show (available here) why WWE has not utilized Mick Foley on television more frequently since his return to the organization last November. He said this is due to wrestler/executive Paul 'Triple H' Levesque's lobbying, who is resentful of "The Hardcore Legend."

Meltzer reports Levesque deprecates Foley whenever his name is broached in creative meetings. While Brian Gewirtz, WWE's Senior Vice President of Creative Writing, feels Foley is creative and a good performer, Levesque thinks otherwise. He says Foley 'doesn't look tough' and can't be taken seriously as an in-ring performer.

A former WWE creative writer told Power Slam in 2008 under the condition of anonymity that Levesque would disparage Foley whenever he appeared for the company, and in the process, diminished his value in the eyes of Vince and Stephanie McMahon.

"Foley is an out-of-shape nobody," Levesque was reported as saying by the writer. "No one cares about him at all. Funaki puts more asses in the seats than Foley does. He should pay us for coming on our shows."

Meltzer believes the real reason Levesque still holds Foley in contempt is because he gets irritated over the consensus of his closest co-workers that his memorable matches with Foley in 2000 "made him a star."

Foley has criticized Levesque in the past; he took several veiled shots at The Game in his 2007 autobiography The Hardcore Diaries. He also took issue online with Levesque belittling ring announcer Lilian Garcia with a remark he felt was hurtful during an April 2010 episode of Raw. Foley acknowledged then that he may have cost himself professionally, but felt he had to stand by his principles.

Damn, Trips. Still up to the same ol' shit again. disbelief Grow the fuck up. You'll be running the fuckin' company soon, so leave your GD ego at the fuckin' door.

I never really liked Triple H. For some reason i feel that everything he did in the wwe was because of him being married to the boss's daughter

Don't feel bad NOW, L4OA, and try to publicly distance yourself from your hero. Especially when you privately be telling me about all of the Cena gear you be buying on eBay and all of your local chapter of Cenation meetings. Now, I told you I'd keep that shit between us, but I can't stand a liar (i.e. YOU)!

In fact, do I have to let the cat out of the bag about you tweeting and emailing Cena's people to try get him to come see you in the hospital?? That's right, so don't make me angry, cuz I'mma spill ALL the beans.

Former WWE Superstar Discusses John Cena, Mickie James, Among Other Things

Posted on June 20, 2012 by Mr. 561
Former WWE superstar Kenn Doane spoke with SEScoops.com and spoke about a number of controversial topics, including John Cena being the “Tiger Woods” of WWE and breaking up his engagement to Mickie James (which led to the demise of Doane & James’ WWE careers), Cena trying to get Randy Orton fired from WWE, his experience in the Spirit Squad, how WWE has changed since he left in 2008 and much more.

Note From Kenn: “First and foremost before reading this interview if your going to say “Your a cheerleader” or make comments of how I got beat in matches then your probably too uneducated and immature to continue so please hit the back button located at the top left of your webpage now. And now lets begin…”

When you were in the Spirit Squad, was there a feeling like this would brand you with a ‘stench’ that would be impossible to shake, or were you just happy to work with DX and Vince McMahon so early in your WWE career?

“We always knew going into it that groups don’t last forever and the best way possible to get out of that ‘stench’ so to say would be simply to fight each other or go back down to developmental and be repackaged. Fortunately Dolph had that opportunity, the other 3 got fired and I got brought back the following week as Dykstra. Spirit Squad was basically a group designed to bring back DX and that’s it. We came in as badass cheerleaders that took advantage of a 5-2 ratio and beat up every tag team they put in our way. Except when it came to DX, no 5 grown men could ever beat 2 not those 2 lol. This is where haters will say “duh haha you got superkicked and pedigreed.” But I’ma let them in on a secret. ITS FUCKING FAKE! I knew what was going to happen and I did because that was my job. That is equal to me saying haha you just got a stack of papers at your desk and now have to work more.”

“People don’t understand that this is a job. Nobody is really the champion of anything. It is a simple show that you watch and enjoy. If you were in a movie with Sly Stallone and beat his ass but then at the end he killed you would you be mad? Absolutely not you would tell everyone to go watch it. We make short action movies where in the end one loses and the other wins. So if you think otherwise then you didn’t read my disclaimer at the beginning and you can hit the back button now.”

What are your thoughts on fellow Spirit Squad alum Dolph Ziggler’s breakout potential?

“I think it’s great and I am a HUGE Dolph supporter. I text him sometimes before big matches telling him I may do a shoot run in and help him win because he deserves it. I think if THEY let him above the glass ceiling he will be a big player when it comes to the future. We already know Cody Rhodes will get through the glass ceiling eventually for sure. His damn father is a writer. Nothing against Cody he is a great talent just saying it how it is. And as for THEY i mean the politicians in the top spots. Guys like… like…. whats his name??? (haters and nerds get ready here it comes) John Cena that’s it. This man seems afraid of losing his spot and I never understood it because they are very high on him as we can all see but I guess when your at the top you must be afraid of falling sometimes. John is greedy in the ring and he is allowed to be. Very rarely do we see top babyfaces selling for anyone anymore. I think this is part of whats missing in wrestling today. I remember Bret Hart would sell for anyone at any level in every match, the reason being is if your babyface isn’t in danger then why do we care to cheer for them? Steamboat did the same thing. But guys feel it makes them weak to sell now when in reality it makes people interested. If we watched UFC and nobody got hurt we wouldn’t watch right? (a verbal yes will do fine here)

Based on what you’ve seen on television and heard from friends still working for the company, what has changed most in WWE since you left in 2008?

“Everybody walks on egg shells backstage. Nobody gets an opinion and everyone is afraid to speak up. That is what i noticed the times i went back there after my release. The new guys are like little kids that got scolded by their mothers and are on strike 2 when they didn’t do anything to begin with. and most are ass kissers which only gets them faster out the door. Nobody has a chance to become anything unless WWE wants them to be. It seems no fun, nobody really jokes or plays around like they used too. I remember bringing heely’s backstage [the sneakers with wheels in the heels], following week everyone had them, we would have races and such but now they all seem afraid to have fun or afraid to smile. their like pawns waiting to get picked up and moved to a certain spot. Silly if you ask me.”

Can you shed more light on your recent comments that John Cena wanted Randy Orton fired when you were in WWE?

“It was the same night when Cena tried toughening up Carlito (which was absolutely stupid of Cena) he was pretty much bullying him because we all know if Carlito hit Cena and hurt him he would be fired plain and simple. But regardless once John calmed down I asked him what that was all about he ranted and other crap saying people need to hold their own weight around here and some how he got to Randy being suspended saying he is trying for Randy’s release to send a message to everyone that they can all be fired just as easily. As for now I don’t know if John is trying for Randy’s release or not but if I had to guess I would say it is due to the fact that he told me he was before. This assumption could be wrong (meaning this could be false and not the truth) however John telling me in the past he did want Randy fired is true (that’s true because he told me, see how that works haters?).”

Based on your recent tweets about your former relationship with Mickie James, it’s clear that behind-the-scenes romance often winds up affecting WWE storylines. What is WWE’s attitude towards wrestlers dating divas?

“It depends on who you are, top guy like Cena can do what he wants but most of the time they try to fuck with it like put you on separate shows and make one date another on TV. I think its a little sick joke but who knows really. I mean look at past relationships usually their on separate shows.”

Since a return to WWE does not seem likely at this point due to your issues with the company’s top star, are you interested in working for Impact Wrestling? (Turns into a tangent about his relationship with Mickie James, her cheating on him with Cena, Cena’s “rats” and clearing his reputation)

“This is where its going to get interesting i may stray from this question until the end but i will answer you.”

“So one day I see Mickie on the computer and I don’t give a damn it’s not my right to see what she is doing and it never was. I was always great to her. took her many places on vacations and bought her many things, was a great boyfriend. Now at the time Cena was messing around with another diva at the time (who’s name will remain anonymous because she had no effect on my life or job so its not our business) but i ended up using the computer once Mickie got off it and i went to Google and when you start typing it pulls up past searches. Past search was “Mickie James dating John Cena” so I’m not mad just curious I was like hey what the heck is this your trying to find info on? She stared at it for like legit 2 mins and I’m looking at her like “did you forget how to read? say something, WTF” she got up and ran into the other room crying saying she was sorry and she felt bad and admitted to it. I’m not one to get mad or jealous I don’t know why, I think it has to do with all the things I’ve been through as a child that you really cant hurt me much more than i have been already. So i look at it as there are SO many woman in this world why get upset over 1? to me that makes sense. So I don’t have John’s number so I call his diva “road” girlfriend. I ask her if she knows anything about it and she says she had a feeling because John recently dumped her and she is over him now. (yes by this point your probably thinking if WWE just videotaped the real lives of these wrestlers we would have a much better show to watch on Mondays).”

“So here i am sitting on my porch trying to piece all this crap together. Got 1 diva who is married to a guy outside of the business but she sleeps with Cena, then we got Cena who sleeps with rats (groupies, girls not in the biz, girls in the lobby waiting for an invite upstairs, in some countries mules because their fat) and this married diva, and now my girlfriend, then i got Mickie who is supposed to be my girlfriend who is Googling if her secret has been let out. Now I’m thinking before I do anything stupid and risk losing my job that I’ve worked for since I was 13 and gave up college scholarships to play football for I need to think of the best way to handle this. I tell Mickie just leave, go to your moms house or your sisters i just need time to think. I decide to call WWE office and ask for John’s number and explain what happened. They say their sorry and try to make me think they got my side. Following weeks I’m off TV and off the road until i get sent to Smackdown. Ironically Johns former diva got sent too. So now were on complete separate schedules and when their is a joint PPV I’m off the road that day too and get flown in on a Monday for a Tuesday Smackdown. Yeah complete B.S. I get jobbed out then they take me off the road more and fire me. When Johnny ace called me to fire me I asked him if this is why I’m getting fired. He told me we don’t have anything for you and depending on whether you choose to discuss this issue will determine on if your allowed to come back in the future. (so basically if i mention Cena and Mickie then I’m banned) I decide i will keep it to myself since I just want to wrestle and entertain people.”

“I go back every time their in my area and they always say the same leading on words (we like you we will call you in a week) then never call me at all. So I now figured out their just going to keep doing this because if they piss me off i will reveal their Superstar for what he really is and if they bring me back I could start trouble with Cena and that wouldn’t be great for the company either. Lets go back a little bit shall we. So now I’m gone from WWE and Mickie and Cena are banging full time having a merry old time. Mickie becomes champ, get TV roles and gets attached too. John knowing this is going too far needs to put a stop to it so he breaks it off for whatever reason (maybe he felt guilt as he was getting married) and Mickie flips out cries all over backstage snotting everywhere and it looks really bad. She now loses her title and jobs out and becomes Piggy James (inside joke since she was a piggy for sleeping around, they even had Jared from subway introduce her – ya know, “roast beef”) then gets fired.”

“Now to answer your question. I get flown into TNA to try out. before my try out I see Dixie Carter and tell her thank you for bringing me in and I hope she gets a chance to see what I can do. We talk for a little bit and she ends the conversation with “ya know for a guy who got fired for a bad attitude I don’t think your that bad” I’m like what! so i chase her down and say Mrs. Carter why did you say that and where did you get that information if I might ask. She said its all over the internet. So I do my research and find it all over the place that i got fired from WWE for a bad attitude. So now John and Mickie took my personal life, took my job, and left me with a bad reputation. That’s real nice.”

“When i was there in November i was actually excited to talk with John and I wanted to bury this all. He walked by I put my hand out and said hey you got a minute? he didn’t shake my hand and said “for you absolutely not” so i was like “really OK John, that’s cool”. So to all you people that disagree with me bringing this up now Its merely to clear my name of having a bad attitude, I respond to you haters with respect and I don’t poke fun at you through twitter or anywhere. and because I now realize that if John is there then I probably wont ever be in WWE again. And i understand WWE’s point, he is a bigger star and he is their number 1 guy. I get it i own my own business and am happy doing what i do. I’m not doing this for 15 mins of fame or to try to get bookings or anything like that. Would i wrestle for TNA? if I could make more money working for them or equal to what i do now then yes otherwise it would be a dumb choice right? (verbal yes or head shake is suffice) Another thing people claim my timing is bad on this and maybe your right. John is going through a divorce right now and really wish him and Liz a peaceful divorce. But if anyone of you lost your job, personal life and then got stuck with a bad reputation your gonna honestly say you wouldn’t do the same thing? lets get real people.”

Name Association:

Vince McMahon: Crazy (in a good way).

Triple H: Smartest man in the business (married boss’s daughter come on lol).

John Cena: Tiger Woods

Randy Orton: If he overcame his demons the the future if not then wasted talent.

CM Punk: Great example to kids (drug-free).

Final Thoughts: “Going forward I have no reason but to speak the truth and to make all this up would be absolutely insane. I’m not saying you have to believe anything i say but that is the truth. WWE portrays Cena as this big hero and savior to all of us but truth be told that is a character he plays much like me as a cheerleader. When watching wrestling know your watching a show and not real life situations or scenarios. We are basically live comic books brought to life and make short action movies for you to enjoy. Whether you agree or disagree with me on this is solely your opinion which i respect positive or negative. I don’t wrestle that much anymore and that is simply my choice, I guess when you get such a bad taste in your mouth from previous encounters its not something you try to re-hash lol. To say I’m retired is stupid because who really retires from wrestling? and to say im retired from fake fighting sounds even stupider. so no i still wrestle from time to time. I can be easily reached at @kenndoane via twitter where you can tell me how much you hate me, like me, tell me I’m a cheerleader, tell me i suck and that I’m trying to get 15 mins of fame. Its all accepted with arms wide open. Much love to all of you positive or negative. #GodBless you all. And thanks to @SEScoops for doing this interview. There you have it people Love it or Hate it. Truth has been told.”

Perry Saturn recently joined James Guttman on ClubWWI.com for a 35 minute interview

Here are some highlights:

The Moppy gimmick in WWE: "The people, for the most part, really enjoyed that Moppy stuff," said Saturn. "Unfortunately, I was so high all the time, I have such a clouded memory. I don't remember most of it... All the ideas were the writers. I had no idea. Like I said, I was so stoned all the time, I'm lucky I made it to the shows, let alone come up with anything creative. WWE has an outstanding creative staff, they come up with stuff. They try to come up with ways to get everybody over and you do or you don't. I didn't have anything to do with that creative because at the time, I really hated it too...Now, I get the humor of it. At the time, my main concern was making sure nobody knew I was high."

Hiding his drug habits in WWE: "If they had found out, they would have sent me to rehab. They always, for whatever reason, took care of the guys as best they could. But I didn't want to quit doing everything. I didn't want to go to rehab. I wanted to keep doing things the way I was doing them. I wasn't a big drinker. So when you drink a lot on top of doing drugs, that's really hard to hide that. I think that's what helped me keep mine hidden was that I just did the opiates, which was easier for me to hide."

Chris Benoit: "All the time I'd been with Chris, I honestly don't think I've seen him mad. I'm sure he'd been upset, but mad? I've been mad where they've had to grab me and calm me down mad. Eddie's been so mad that I've seen Eddie throw a f****ing pool cue across a bar for just about no reason. I've seen Dean twice scream at somebody. I've never seen Chris do that. All those times I went out every night partying - because that's what I did - and on occasion I was able to drag these guys out with me. Chris told me on day one - and it never changed - that he didn't cheat on Nancy. Chris was a faithful husband and loving father. I have no idea what happened. I could never explain it and it blows my mind - the whole thing."

People who were in WCW management being in TNA: "It's amazing. The 'Predictability of Stupidity' is unbelievable. To believe that someone could see what they did (in WCW) and use their own money to give these people another chance to do it again. Tell me TNA is going to be a successful business. That's hard to believe. Eventually that woman's going to run out of money and you have to think someone else will give them the same opportunity. Funniest thing I've seen in a long time was one of Vince Russo's Tweets, obviously after they let him go. He said he was sure glad to see the lucrative deal TNA signed with Hulk Hogan especially since Hogan's only appearances in TNA are during his Rent-a-Center ads. Nobody should ever get paid to stay home."

On Extreme Rising and what made ECW special: "The ECW fans are totally different than any other fans. So it's wicked cool. I'm at Extreme Rising on the 30th this month. The show on the 29th is going to be outstanding too... I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to my match more than any other match in a long time. I have no idea who I'm working with or anything, I'm just glad to be in front of the ECW fans again, you know...In ECW and WWE - both places - the guys worked as hard as they could. The difference was that that ECW fans made the whole experience different. They were special, man. They never had fans like that anywhere else."

Onward, Christian soldier: WWE champ headed to B-N

June 21, 2012 8:00 am

If Bloomington was ancient Rome and the U.S. Cellular Coliseum was that OTHER Coliseum, they’d be feeding the lions to Christian this weekend, with no table scraps.

Despite a marquee name that suggests tender mercies and the turning of other cheeks, Christian would only be turning necks.

Clear ’round … wrung clean.

As for the kings of the jungle … have a rec room wall in need of some mounted kings’ heads?

Born William Jason Reso 38 years ago, Christian isn’t the WWE’s reigning Intercontinental Champ for nothing — and certainly not for being a pussycat to bigger pussycats.

In short, there’s no turning of other cheeks for this Christian.

But extreme head-banging?

Now we’re talking the kind of doing-unto-others that we love and expect from our WWE Smackdowns.

That includes the one pummeling its way into the Coliseum at 5 p.m. Sunday, along with Christian’s fellow head-banging brethren, like Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Kane.

Chief among them: the man who would be intercontinental king, Cody Rhodes, who’ll challenge Christian’s reign in one of the Smackdown’s most anticipated face-offs.

As Christian reminds us, the regal titles he wears at the moment are merely the latest in a long line over an 18-year career —22 total titles, including six times as world champ (among the latter, two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champ and two-time ECW Champ).

Still, he agrees, “It’s kind of cool to be Intercontinental Champion,” even at the relatively mature age he’s reached in a career approaching two decades. “It means a great deal.”

In a reflective, non-combative mode, Christian flashes back to his days as young Billy Reso, growing up in Orangeville, Ontario.

A long way from the 6-foot-1 stature he would one day attain, Billy harbored dreams of pro wrestling glory in the way a dreaming kid might do it: “I used to make my own title belts out of cardboard and attach them to the back of my weightlifting belt, then hold it up in the mirror and practice my posing.”

The net result of that dreaming speaks for itself.

“My thought was that if you believe you’re a champion and work hard at it, you’ll finally get to that point.”

There was, however, a moment when it looked like that native Canadian sport of hockey might trump the implications of the adorned weightlifting belt.

“I loved playing hockey growing up as a kid, but the first time I stepped into a ring, it seemed natural to me, like home,” he says, adding no such reverberations were transmitted while facing down a puck on ice.

“The first day of training, I was a kid thrown into the ring, and the minute I hit the ropes and the mat, it felt comfortable.”

Or at least as comfortable as hitting ropes and mats with brute force can be.

It didn’t hurt that he had a best friend in high school, name of Adam Copeland. Like Billy Reso, Copeland felt the need to be a lord of the ring.

The mutual admiration society led them onto the Canadian independent circuit as a tag team variously known as High Impact and The Suicide Blondes.

In 1998, Copeland was signed by the World Wrestling Federation; Reso followed on his heels. The best friends found themselves pitted in a tryout match which the former was booked to win.

The end result: Copeland signed with the WWF, with Reso — championed by his best friend — following suit.

They were now fully formed pro wrestling entities, with Copeland adopting the name of Edge and Reso starting out as Christian Cage (an amalgam of actors Christian Slater and Nicolas Cage), then downsizing to just Christian.

The rest is tag-team history, with Edge and Christian adopting assorted ring personalities as they racked up multiple tag team championships before heading their separate ways.

Over the course of their boyhood-to-manhood run, “we kind of helped each other and pushed each toward the same goals,” he recalls. “We made each other better because we were on the same wavelength.”

And, just at the point of burnout, “we decided when the time was right for us to go our separate ways.”

Alas for Edge, that way led to a serious neck injury a year ago that forced Christian’s best friend from way back into early retirement.

“Yeah, I was the first person he called after he got the news (about the injury). It was one of those things where I had to listen and be there for him,” Christian recalls. “I could tell he was upset about it once it sunk in. I told him that if was writing the end to his story, this was the perfect way to finish it off, just winning the WrestleMania (XXVII) world championship, the biggest show of the year. You can’t write a better ending than that.”

As for his own final chapter?

Despite a serious, sidelining ankle injury of his own in the past year, Christian is still ready to chow down on any lion who would be king.

“Having a long career with real lasting power has always been a goal,” he says. “So as long as I’m physically able to do what I do, I’ll keep doing it.”

No one here in America seems to care, but it seems that TNA and my favorite PURORESU promotion Pro-Wrestling NOAH have some kind of a talent exchange going on. Maybe it's just a one time thing, but NOAH has a HUGE card coming up July 22 at the Sumo Hall in Tokyo. They have been struggling for the past few years, have had no TV deal since late 2009, and have seen their live attendance fall completely off, despite the fact that they still put on the best matches out there. Revelations that they were backed by the Yakuza didnt help matters, and this July 22 show, in a venue that seats 12,000, is CRUCIAL. They seem to be pulling out all the stops.

For the GHC Junior Heavyweight Title: Champion Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Christopher Daniels

This match could steal the show (though the main event of Morishima vs. Shiozaki for the Heavyweight title should be damn good). The match that has everyone going goofy in Japan right now...for the GHC Heavyweight Tag Titles: Champions Jun Akiyama & Akitoshi Saito (the guy who delivered the final suplex to Mitsuharu Misawa) vs. Samoa Joe & Magnus. I'm not too excited for that one, even though any matchup between Akiyama and the Samoa Joe of 2004/5 would have been ridiculously sick. Dont know if Joe cares anymore, but maybe a return to NOAH could rev up his juices.

Anyway...I'm excited and hopeful that these additions (as well as the return of Super Crazy to NOAH for the big show) will help them stay alive. These TNA guys dont get much respect over here, but they're pretty over in Japan. They were a big part of New Japan's massive Tokyo Dome shows during TNA's working agreement with NJ, and tend to put asses in the seats outside of the US. Japanese fans are excited, which makes me even more hopeful.

Here's hoping some NOAH guys guest on TNA shows so I have a reason to watch!

Interview with Bobby Roode

It's a mix of familiar and different when I greet Bobby Roode for the first time in three years. Different hairstyle, darker tan, sharper clothes. I guess that's part of the job when you are the longest-reigning TNA world heavyweight champion in the company's 10-year history. Through all of his success, I still have fond memories of him as Bob (how he introduced himself to me, anyway), the man who appeared extensively for my independent promotion in the greater Toronto area for several years (he lives in nearby Peterborough). Always reliable, even through treacherous weather conditions (once despite a snowstorm, he made what normally would be a two-hour drive in five to make one of our shows). Always gives the fans their money's worth and prides himself on having the best match on the card. Those are traits you would want in your champion. Those are traits Bobby Roode exhibits. It was nice to see him personally, but I was also looking forward to talking with him about his rise up the TNA ladder. I had hoped during his “Team Canada” days that the championship would be in his future. It was.

Watching you then (in the independent days), I remember thinking, 'This guy's going to be a champion one day, whether it be sooner or later,' and here you are today the longest-reigning TNA world champion. Did you think this came at the right time for you in your career?

I think the timing is right. There was a time where we split up from Team Canada (in 2006) and I went on my own for a little while and people thought I deserved an opportunity then, but I think in hindsight it was best to wait. I think without the 'Beer Money' success I don't think I'd be where I'm at right now, so I think everything along the way happened for a reason and I'm very comfortable where I'm at right now.

Talking about that change in character for you, a change in direction, how much were you involved in that process?

I was involved a little bit you know, but at the end of the day it wasn't my call. But I was happy with it. I was very comfortable and confident in my role and in my character that you see on TV, and I've kind of made it my own. The whole "It Factor" and the "Selfish Generation" thing was all me. That wasn't written for me, that wasn't produced in any way. I wasn't told to say it. It was just something that rolled off my tongue and made it feel like part of the character and part of the persona I carry. I think it's elevated me to a different level and every week I seem more and more comfortable.

Let's back up a bit. How did you end up joining TNA in 2004?

I got a phone call one afternoon from Scott D'Amore, who was with the company at the time and asked me if I was interested in coming to Nashville for three weeks and taking part in the 'X Cup' as a part of 'Team Canada,' which was an 'X Division' showcase-style tournament, I guess. I was part of the second generation of 'Team Canada,' which was myself, Petey Williams, Eric Young and Johnny Devine and was there for three weeks and I left with a contract in my hand and signing a deal with them. All of 'Team Canada' did. All four members signed contracts. I guess we were just so well-liked and got over so fast in Nashville on pay-per-view, I think that Jeff Jarrett saw something in us as a group and individually I think Jeff saw something in me as well, so it's been a great run. Looking back, in 2004 when I got that phone I call, I was literally just ready to go in for three weeks and then go back to doing what I was doing, working at a sports store selling hockey skates and doing independent wrestling on the weekend. But you know, here I am today.

Did you find that when you were breaking away from 'Team Canada' that it was difficult to shed that persona and move on?

It was at first, but I tried my best to try and shake that stench of 'Team Canada' off me I guess in a way. But everybody knows I'm Canadian, and I'm proud of that. I'll never deny that fact that I'm Canadian. Those 'Team Canada' days were awesome. They got me where I'm at today, literally, and I had great times with all those guys and some good memories. But when I broke away from 'Team Canada,' they did the thing with the 'Hottest Free Agent.' They brought Bobby Heenan in and Carl Parker in and Sensational Sherri in, and this whole managers were vying for me and trying to buy me up and offer me their services, and that was a lot of fun. So in a way, I guess the company tried to shake off that Canada smell as well. But I went off with Traci Brooks as my manager, I started wearing the robe and started wearing different colors, trying to not let people think that I was the 'Team Canada' guy. Even today people know that I'm Canadian. People will come up to me at live events or wherever and have me sign Canadian flags, or the old 'Team Canada' shirt and have me talk about those days back in 'Team Canada,' so it's a moment that I'm proud of.

Obviously being Canadian you're a hockey fan. You used to play hockey. What did you think of the NHL playoffs this year?

I think they were a great playoffs. You know, L.A. obviously deserved to win. I thought after the first round they were the team to beat. I was shocked to see New Jersey there.

Who did you have in the East. Was it the Rangers?

I didn't have the Rangers, no. But when it came down to the final four, I thought for sure it would be a typical "Rangers/Kings" matchup with two big media sources. Being the 'Big Apple' and being out in Hollywood, I thought that would be a perfect thing for hockey, but New Jersey surprised everybody. And I'm not a big New Jersey [fan] at all. I just don't like their style of hockey, and I thought it would be a boring series, but it actually turned out to be pretty good.

If you're (40-year-old New Jersey Devils goalie) Martin Brodeur, do you come back next season?

Nah. I don't think so. I mean, he's still got it, but I don't think he has anything left to prove.

Back to you being TNA champion. Is there anything that is expected of you or is everything self-imposed in terms of responsibilities for you now that you are the TNA champion?

There's a lot of other responsibilities you know, other than going out and performing every night on television or pay-per-view. It's the travel. I mean, literally, I've been doing media appearances off and on for the last seven months, travelling overseas, promoting our upcoming tour in January. I got an opportunity to go to L.A. and do red carpet stuff for 'Spike TV' and 'MTV,' so a lot of cool things and a lot of different things, but there's a lot of responsibilities. But I knew getting into it that was going to be asked of me. Kurt Angle was that guy for a couple of years when he first got to the company and had to do all this stuff. He pulled me to the side and told me what to expect. He wasn't far off. It's been a busy time, but it's been a lot of fun and a great learning experience as well.

There are a subset of fans who tried TNA a while ago and maybe got turned off by the product, but it seems now that people are starting to rediscover TNA. Are you feeling that as well?

Absolutely. I think our product is getting better. I think the talent itself has always been there. I think our talent is second to none anywhere in the world. But I think as a machine, you know, all the moving parts have to work together in order for it to be successful and I think we've turned that corner and we've got some momentum now coming off a great pay-per-view at 'Slamiversary.' Every match from the top to the bottom of that card was great and our TV show is getting better and better and better. We've got some different things, things that people don't generally see on a wrestling show; some reality stuff, some stuff that kind of hits home, and some intriguing story lines and some great wrestling matches and putting the importance back on what should be important -- and that's the world title. The 'Bound for Glory Series' is doing that again this year with the 12 guys competing for an opportunity to go to 'Bound for Glory' for the world title, so I think we're doing a lot of good things. And of course, being live every Thursday, you know, when you're live anything can happen. And I think with today's social media, when it was taped, I think people just went online and read whatever they wanted to know and tuned out or maybe tuned in at a certain time. Now with live TV, I think that we're forcing the fans to watch and we're creating new fans.

What are your thoughts then on Impact going live on Thursdays and also the time slot change (to 8 p.m. ET)?

I think it's great. I mean, an earlier time slot's always going to be helpful in trying to generate new fans, younger fans, bringing more attention to our company, to our wrestling product. So I think the time change is great. I think people are just slowly starting to get used to that time change because we've been on at nine o'clock for so long, so that hour earlier is obviously going to be a big change, but I think it's going to be helpful in the long run. And of course, live TV, I think that’s how wrestling should be. I think it should be live. As the performers look at it from my standpoint, you have to be on, you have to be ready and there’s no second takes and there’s no re-dos. So, like I said, it gives that little extra excitement, you know it gets you pumped up a little more and it gets you ready. And I think as wrestling fans go, too, I think the element of surprise is better, too.

If people watch IMPACT they'll see things that they don't normally see. I remember one segment a few weeks ago where, there's Hulk [Hogan] and Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle sitting in a room with Bully Ray and A.J. Styles talking about how 'We have to derail this Bobby Roode train.' It's just a segment you wouldn't normally envision in a pro wrestling show. What do you make of these new ways of presenting professional wrestling?

The way I look at it, I mean wrestling is so ... everything's been done. And I guess what's old can be new again, but you can try new things as well, things that have never been done before. And we're trying to do that. The wrestling business has been exposed to a certain extent and everybody knows that it's a performance, so to speak, so I think people behind the scenes and seeing what actually does go on give it that reality feel, and with reality TV being so predominant right now on our television over the last several years, I think bringing that element to our wrestling show is going to entertain more people and possibly bring more viewers to our show. Then, why not?

Who are guys that you say, 'You know what? I want to work with this guy in the future?'

We're all really in the same sort of era. Samoa Joe is a guy that comes to mind. He's a guy that's been to the top of the mountain before, but I really think he's got a lot of legs left and he's really underutilized, and I think that him and I can produce something really special. Austin Aries is a guy that has been the longest-reigning 'X Division' champion, has proven himself all over the world before he even got to TNA, and is well-respected in the industry, so I think he's a guy to look out for and I look forward to working with. But like I said, our roster top to bottom is solid as can be. I think Gunner has a hell of a future, too, as a top guy, so this company is not short on talent, that's for sure.

Some great moments and memories for you in TNA, does one stick out for you in particular?

Obviously winning the world title. For that particular reason, winning the world title, wrestling against my partner, my former partner at the time, that whole change in character, that change in attitude really brought me to where I am today. I mean there's been lots of great memories, some that people saw via pay-per-view, via TV. But one of the greatest memories was in January, overseas doing live events in England, I got an opportunity to do a six-man tag every night. My partners were Kurt Angle and Bully Ray, and we wrestled against Storm, Hulk Hogan and Sting. It was pretty surreal, a pretty cool moment four nights in a row being able to wrestle against Sting and Hulk Hogan at the same time. It's something I can hang my hat on. I've had a lot of great opportunities and a lot of great times here, and hopefully they'll continue.

How do people reach you?

A lot of people don't like to call me. I don't know, people don't like to talk to me very much. I do Twitter @RealBobbyRoode, but I only go on there once in a while.

You don't strike me as someone who necessarily loves social networking.

I'm going to be honest with you -- I hate social networking. The only reason why I'm on Twitter is because Dixie Carter made me. I'll go on Twitter every now and again and just say some things. Normally it's just to hype wrestling and to hype what's coming on TV and whatnot. But, I don't do Facebook, never have, never will. So if there's any Bobby Roode Facebook people out there, that's not me. But yeah, social media ... I'm not a big fan of the internet or social media.

So for TNA's next pay-per-view, Destination X (Sunday July 8), to people reading who may not have purchased one before, why should they?

I mean just coming off the heels of 'Slamiversary,' where top to bottom every match was a main event, literally. We started of with an 'X Division' title match with Samoa Joe and Austin Aries that blew the roof off the place and it just continued on from there. The guys and girls in our locker room give 1,000 percent every night. When it comes to live TV, when it comes to live events for that matter, such as these ones coming up in Oshawa and Hamilton this weekend, I think people that haven't been able to catch TNA IMPACT, the show or live event, need to check it out. Rent a pay-per-view, give us a chance and we'll make you a fan. I promise.
