Women's world

Despite feminism, what kind of things still withold women in society today?

What would you want to see changed for women?

I'm just curious what kind of issues are on women's minds and what they would want to see differently.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Many women have suffered greatly to get the status & freedom's that they have today.
It's high time that we started building the kind of society where they need suffer no more.
I say we should do everything we can to put at end to women's suffrage now.

I am all about feminism, but you know what? Women oppress each other if they are too different from one another, and I'm sick and tired of it. Those people have no respect for their own sex, or themselves. They give us all a bad name, and in turn feminism is put in a bad light too when they are missng the point and it's about equality and equity too and not seperation.

I think if women want to be treated as equals to men then they need to stop expecting special treatment and crying whenever something doesnt go their way... I dont want to see things changed FOR women, I want to see women change themselves...

Stop trying to get a separate set of rules for womanhood if you think you wanna play with the boys...

Things are kind of harder for women now than ever. Too much information, too much expectation (both of and from), too much criticism (take mothers for example, who can't do a thing right), too much guilt… sigh

I agree with what you're saying and all human beings, male and female should make a change for themselves, but yes, things should have been changed and were changed when it came to social justice for women who were oppressed. It's interesting what came out of radical feminism, even if you don't agree with the attitude of that type of feminism.

I really haven't figured it out yet.

I agree women don't come across as feminists oftentimes. However, sometimes I think they can't demand equeal rights, because when they do, they will loose their job, man or friends.

Or is it really about women who have to change themselves? And what kind of specific things should they change? Any examplese come to your minds?

In theory, women don't suffer at all in most Western societies. Reality is different though.

How come?

Today I'm convinced that a woman can prevent her own suffering by not getting in a relationship and foremost never become a mother. Eventhough that goes against her instict. Please, convince me I'm wrong. Tell me stories and examples that contradict my pessimism.

I agree. And they should be able to be bare chested without any looks, comments or touching from guys. Women should be able to be completely save from any sexual attacks, no matter their style of (non)dressing.

So, what do you think is needed to obtain that?

Tinaz, sometimes I'm jalous of the trust and care that exists between you and your husband. It's not like that nowadays (IMO). You have really been able to trust you husband to have your best interest in his mind. He comes across as a reliable man and the two of you come across as a team that have divided all tasks evenly. I haven't met a man that responsible. Neither a lot of women of my generation. Feminism seems to be an excuse for men to have women take care of the income & the kids, so men can have fun on their own. I'm sorry for my negative attitutude today, however, the way you and your husband have been taking care of eachother seems to be rare nowadays.

I think the main thing is a general feeling that womean have 'made it' and are equal.

The unintended consequence of this is that women who still push and advocate for

basic female rights (equal pay, reproductive rights, etc.) are somehow branded

extreme.

It seems like that. However, when I look at day to day life, nobody can really sustain that feeling of 'equal' and similar freedom of choice, right?

I don't think any minority groups can, certainly. There will always be some marginalization. And I don't buy that "we'll all be one race" nonsense. It'll never happen.

That's why protections will always be needed.

However, women are not a minority group. They are half (or a little more than that) of the worlds population. This makes the rampant discrimination and inhumane behavior all the more shocking.

Why is it that women are still having their breasts ironed and their clitoris circumcized? These are serious issues!

Religion plays a big role in this, but let's face it--religion has always been a reflection of male power.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

And I feel strongly to enhance some change. I don't know in what form though, I'm thinking about interviewing women and assemble these in bookform. Or interviewing woman around the world an d make a documentary. Also I thought about training women in financial awareness.

It's just that I really want to give it my heart, however, don't know what would be effective in raising awareness and with that change.

I know it al very megalomaniac, however, I do want to spend my time, talent and energy in it. Am just wondering about what direction I should get myself into.

I hoped to get responses of women with tangeable examples and frustrations. However, more men are responding than women. As if it's not of a big concern?

^^ If you interview women around the world, prepare to have your spirit and/or heart broken.

I have Chinese, Thai, African, and Burmese female students who believe that women are not fit to be leaders of their countries.

Most of the Chinese female students I've spoken to feel that men are superior to them emotionally and intellectually. They're saying is "men are more clever, and we are not equal."

And this is CHINA!!! (far left wing liberal government that long ago made women 'equal').

Despite knowing some awesome generous beautiful women...

women are just like crabs in a barrel. They are too freggin' competitive,

they gotta be the prettiest

most educated

and sexiest woman in the room to get the guys' attention the most or that sorry excuse of a bitch is gonna whine and make everyone's life she knows miserable by saying ...

"Why doesn't everyone love me?" bawl

Well, not everyone wants to kiss your ass, deal with it. finger

Then they go about trying to f@ck your man, or get better things than you have because she must be the best!

This is why many competitive women tend to be backstabbers.

All this "progress" and we still fighting over who gets the better "piece of pie". rolleyes

I am sick and tired of bitches in my life, all trifling self-serving heffas who would sooner be happy to see you gain weight (so they can call you fat) than be happy that you found love.

This is the very NATURE of woman... she is a beast, and this is why when I meet a gem who isn't out for herself only and stops to condsider a need I have and is truly giving from her heart I do my best to protect and honor that friendship, and it a very RARE thing to find!

So few are the women choose to love instead of hating people with a smile on their face.

I agree that women let themselves manipulated by men easily. Men can toss them around by giving, retracting or spreading their compliments to women.

And yes, woman react to that. However, I really don't believe women are evil in their core and out there to get other women. I mean, there's competition among men as well as women, don't see what the difference is there.

Also, by stating this and interpreting women their behaviour being intentionally evil, is just a self fulfilling prophecy isn't it?

I have had my share of betrayal by some women. However, also received a lot of support from women. And I really think men love to enhance us to start fighting among us.

Divide and rule, that's what kept these men in charge for centuries.

the thing is

blacks, women, latinos, gays, and bi-racials

all give themselves these titles of bein 'minorities

when the truth of the matter is that none of us

can really be concidered a minority any more.

it's that sense of thinkin one is a minority that is

the key to bein kept in a certain place in life

others of the same group will actually hold back

the more free of the group holdin to the "we are weak"

banner. and that is the crux of the battle.

most battle are lost not by bein beaten from

without, but by bein beaten from with in.

so when bitches are comfterble callin one another bitches

some will say it takes away from their cause, when in

truth, it's whut give them solidarity.

we already know whut blacks hold each other back for...

I remember when Hilary Clinton was running for president and it was a topic on a different (non political) board, I was shocked at the number of women who said she should not run because of being a woman alone. And these were Americans. I preferred Obama too, but I found out sad that women can't support one another or allow others to break barriers.

Makes me sad hearing that about women in China, a friend of mine was dating a girl from there who was studying here and was telling me about how powerless her family made her feel about everything.

Advocacy for women during feminist movements have led to rape laws being put into place (even for after marriage, it wasn't like that before), maternity benefits, employment equity and so forth and I agree that today there are different types of feminism and many may disagree with one another on what it is
