Cable box technical problems

You ever have a cable box and sometimes they could mess you up a few times? Well lately this has been happening with mine's. It's been setting and resetting itself like crazy lately, well actually off and on from December. If it ain't DSL/cable, it's the phone, sometimes it's all the above and sometimes the cable TV will act up. It's always something technical going down in our area. Right now I can't go to the phone because there's no damn dial tone. I wonder if I'm the only one who has problems like that with my broadband cable box?

I constantly have issues with mine, is it Comcast? I swear every day at Noon it shuts down like there is a rolling black out in the area

Mine resets a few times a year. I'm pretty sure it's actually something Comcast is doing on purpose while making some kind of updates. Like, adding new channels, or moving them around or whatever. So that doesn't bother me. If it happened all the time I would have them send a tech and/or get a new box.

What DOES bother me is that there are four of five channels that are going all pixelated if it gets about 70 degrees. confused This just started happening this Spring. And it's ONLY those few channels - everything else is fine.

Nah it's Time Warner but I have read how Comcast does that too.

Mine's does that in spring too. And yeah my box resets itself probably every other week. It's good for like five weeks or so then somewhere in mid-week, it'll act up and try to reset itself. It's just occurring more often than usual and it sometimes last a good few hours.

Oh hell nah! talk to the hand It takes HOURS for my guide to come back after the box resets. If it was happening more than a few times a year I'd be pissed. I'm already fighting with Comcast about giving me a bigger credit for the time I'm not able to watch two of those pixelated channels (ABC and Food Network). If I'm paying for something I can't watch, they need to pony up and credit my account with a fat refund until they get that shit fixed. Cerebus don't play with Comcast. lol

I think every time something happens it's either a "technical issue" or folks keep doing it on purpose. rolleyes Thing is we've already changed providers so many times in the past. When we first started getting into advanced cable, we got DirecTV, when that started fucking up, we switched to cable where we got more stations and my internet services were different. I moved from dial-up to DSL (Embarq) within five years. By the time we got Time Warner, we were told everything would be put in a bundle so everything we use (with the exception of lights and air conditioner obviously) was connected to Time Warner/Road Runner, the cable, the phones, internet service, everything. We got it for a cheaper price. If we had Comcast, it would probably be a bigger headache than what is going on with Time Warner!

Funny. My box downstairs works fine and has been since I moved into my townhouse 4 years ago, however, the box upstairs does the resetting bullshit that you described. It's irritating as hell, and has been doing it since I've had the box. I haven't gotten it replaced because I don't feel like taking half a day off from work to wait for the damn cable guy to come replace it. Other than that, I don't have issues with my phone or internet, just the box upstairs. Speaking of which, I need to call Verizon anyway to see what kind of deal they can offer me to have HBO for three months so that I can watch "True Blood" this summer. razz

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

We got the Time Warner thing because it was cheap. I think if we had just gotten internet service and Time Warner for cable TV, it would've been more expensive.

Damn for real? So you saying you HAD to get the triple play thing for it to be cheaper? Sorry if you mentioned it above, I haven't read the whole thread.

Yep. Plus what we had before had cost us a lot of money to pay the bill on...

Well at first, Verizon gave me the works for 6 months free, Starz, TMC, HBO, Cinemax, etc. Then once the free period ran out, had to cancel that shit because otherwise I my bill would had been over $200 a month. Besides, I don't watch all that mess anyway. HBO is bad enough with their 20 individual HBO channels alone that play the same movies over and over and over.

Hell yeah. Even with HBO and Cinemax my bill was at $180 and thats still too damn much. It's just me up in here and I work a 40 hour work week which means when I get home, more than likely, I'm not watching a movie, i'm watching shows. And the good HBO shows don't come on until Sunday so that was a waste of money. Cinemax just got soft porn and that shit don't do nothing for me at all.

For the amount of customers they have and the services they provide Comcast is no worse than any other cable company.

nod It's like all these channels and nothing on. Cinemax's shit was always a turn off. Don't know the last time I watched a softcore Cinemax flick. lol I probably wasn't even 23 when I last watched. lol

My Comcast package is $180 for literally every cable channel they offer (save the adult ones - internet porn is free and all), fast as hell internet and a home phone number, with a voicemail package. I could not get those things cheaper than that seperately if I want reliable service. If I get a less expensive cable package it's either WAY basic, which saves some case, or you lose a few channels and save $20. I don't want way basic and I can afford the extra $20.

I know a lot of people hate on cable/phone/internet service providers, particularly Comcast. Personally, I'm cool with what I get for the price. Because if you really think about it, its a lot.

spit Shit was awful. I just don't get soft porn for real. Why stick you head down a woman's cooch if you not going to eat? So you just smelling it and rubbing your face in it? Makes no sense whatsoever. Or a woman not really sucking a dick but just moving her head around in circles. Shit was just too fake for words. If you going to suck a dick, (let me quote lil' kim for a sec.) then handle it like a real bitch. lol

I am retiring from my comcast internet service later this month. party Trying someone new. And I only carry basic cable. But I'm not a sports junkie, so, I don't need extended.

I've considered it. Even looked into it from time to time. I haven't found anything that I like more/think is a better deal than what I have. My friends with other services, or a combination of different companies supplying their services, have the same problems I have or pay more for picking and chosing than I pay for my package.

I could go with basic cable if I needed to. I could go with no TV for that matter. But a few of the shows I most enjoy right now are actually on the pay cable channels. Also, I find going to movies to be a ridiculously expensive endeavor that borders on torture when you include driving there, parking and dealing with the asshats in the theater. So I watch a good number of movies at home, too.

So for me, personally, what I'm paying works. I have no major complaints... other than those damn pixelated channels! lol
