I'm not a fan of the landing strip/Hitler moustache either. I find it looks strange. I prefer either a neat triangle or bald.
I also agree with Dave that a full bushy patch looks great in classic photography, but it's not something I'd necessarily like in real life. | |

The short answer is; the top and the bottom are not the same house, they just share a neighborhood. Keep the living space (lower regions) clean and tidy, keep the vacation home (the northern hemisphere) landscaped enough that you don't have to do any work when you visit.
