Weird question-is nausea technically "pain"

I was wondering this about 3 weeks ago when I dealing with food poisoning. I was nauseous as hell, but do you consider nausea pain in the way you would if you had a broken rib or something?

Nope...I could be nauseous all day and not give a shit....but pain! Fuck that...gimme some demerol or dilaudid...or maybe a vicodin if that's all that's necessary....if just an advil or tylenol will make it go away I won't even bother....ill ride that out.

no

you can get anti emetics for nausea

and you get analgesia for pain

both are entirely diffrent things

however pain can bring about nausea!

Promethazine, phenergan, zofran...

Stuff that makes nausea go away. They usually give u these along with opiate pain meds cuz they can make u queesy.

They're quite miraculous...it just goes away as if u just finished hurling a bucket full of chunks. I think they operate by calming down that gag reflex and calming your quivering esophogeal sphincter...but I'm not sure. Promethazine can make u drowsy and burns going in the vein...zofran doesn't. Promethazine is also cheap as dirt but zofran isn't. they both come in pill form too but take longer to have effect. Suppositories r avail too...but I dont roll that way.

I always have to get a shot of stemetil if I start puking - I just can't stop!! My sister is allergic to it though, and has a slight but permanent tremor now - she got it with her morphine when she broke her femur and started convulsing :-(

In other news, an ITCH is a pain signal!

...Nausea in and of itself, doesn't 'hurt', so I wouldn't classify it in a technical sense, as being 'pain'.

Same thing for itching. Having said that, I'm fully aware that it probably triggers the same body parts/mechanisms, but that in and of itself doesn't mean that it's the same thing as pain because it utilizes the same receptors.

It may not feel like pain, but they are pain signals nod
Taking a panadol will dull an itch

If you're taking something for relief, then I think it's pain.

When I feel nausea's,that means I better get in the bathroom fast, because puking will soon follow, but I don't feel any pain whe I am feeling nauseous.
