OK...headline is just a little misleading.

Should read, "Fleeing teen falls and hits her head on pavement after being tased by pursuing fat cop suffers brain damage".

Shame on him for being such a fat fuck that he can't run after a handcuffed (and therefore slowed-down) teenage girl.

Damned shame that she spun around and hit the back of her head on the pavement.

He's going to have to live the rest of his life with that shame.

Timmy...honestly, you saw the video...

It's a crying shame what happened...

...but where was the "abuse"?

OR are you just talking in general terms? question

It was abuse, regardless of the fall. The use of the taser was completely unnecessary.

Those fucking things should be banned altogether.

thumbs up! Gotcha.

Yes, there are people in power who thoroughly enjoy their control over others, and relish in misery & subservience.

That goes for cops, teachers, nuns, parents, grandparents, soldiers, nursing home caregivers, pastors, and some would say, even mods on internet forums.

BUT the bad ones shouldn't speak for all.

So I look at this video and feel sad for this girl who made a poor decision or two in her young life and now may spend her remaining days as a vegetable. But unlike the mental image that this thread spawned in me (of some poor girl handcuffed in a room somewhere being hit with electric shocks until it fried her brain)...I see a cop who is out of shape and did what many other cops would do to stop this girl from fleeing, and unfortunately caused her to hit her head on the pavement.

Erin...the use of tasers is unfortunately the norm, not the exception nowadays.

Abuse would be for him to have tackled her to the ground or thrown his baton at the back of her head to stop her.

Cops can't really lay a hand on a suspect nowadays without winding up in litigation, which is why tasers and pepper spray are routinely being employed.

The girl was being arrested, she ran, he stopped her.

If she had fallen on a patch of grass, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I never said they were not the norm. confuse

You use a taser and the person falls harder than a motherfucker....everyone knows this.

And it's not just because they are risking a devastating fall like this one....I, for one. would very likely go into cardiac arrest if I was tasered due to a heart condition that I have.

They should NEVER have been deemed an acceptable way to apprehend a suspect. It's filed under the guise of an effective and safe way to stop a suspect and it absolutely is not.

And using it willy nilly like he did absolutely is abuse...even if it's ridiculously deemed "acceptable" withing the force.

So they would rather risk killing someone to avoid litigation...yeah, that's a great idea. If he had shot her people would be up in arms....but people ignorantly think tasers are a safe practice.

I guarantee that they will eventually be banned....at least in Canada....first.

I definitely agree that it was him being lazy in this case...if he wasn't busy stuffing his face with donuts and pulled pork, he would've had no problem catching up to this chick and holding her down.

And I agree that tasers are being used wayyyy too much.

But until web-slingers or some other technology is developed (or until lawyers stop winning million-dollar lawsuits for crooks getting tackled) then tasers & pepper spray are here to stay.

If not tasers, then WHAT?

Let's hope no one you care about makes a bad decision one day (like a simple petty crime) and ends up being permanently damaged or worse because of an apprehension option that is considered acceptable until something safer comes along.

I managed to get through 41 years without committing a crime (well, speeding really isn't a crime, is it?). It's not like we get tasered for running a stop sign or for wearing white after Labor Day (at least...not yet we don't).

You're safe. Honest. But if you like to cause mischief, then just make sure to halt when the police yell "stop!" and if you do get pulled over by a cop, DO NOT dare the cop to stun you.

no no no!

Take your ticket, thank the officer, and curse his soul to hell as you pull away with a smile on your face. Much less painful.

If he weren't such a fat bastard he wouldn't even have to think about touching that fucking taser. Whether it was "abuse" or not, police men shouldn't be fat (or at least able to run quicker than a hand-cuffed person), and he should therefor be suspended.

His not being fit enough led to this huge dilemma. It maybe wasn't his direct fault that she fell and hit the ground with the back of her head, but it is his (and the police departement's) direct fault that he is such a fat motherfucker and can't catch a hand-cuffed girl.

Apart from that, because she was handcuffed, I assume it was him who handcuffed her in the first place. A police man should have a close look at the people he hand-cuffs and should not even give them any kind of opportunity to break free and run. That's another reason for why he should be suspended and the police department should spend more time picking the right people for this important job.

rose the poor girl & her family.. this was so senseless & just because that fat cop was too lazy to run. it's frightning, the usa bothers me a lot.. guns & weapons galore! oppressive as fuck.

this incident made me think of something,

that when we were kids & we would deliberately create aggro so the coppers were called, then we'd scatter & have a ball watching them trying to catch us, them all unfit & out of breath was hysterical.

we'd do that feeling safe we would never be harmed, freedom taken 4 granted

I know for a fact there are good cops that go to work daily to support their families. I also am aware there are cops that are out there with an over zealous attitude.

i remember (back i the day) when i had to be @ work at 5:00am. before work i had to drop my child off at day-care. fortunantly my day care provider had no problem with my dropping my child off at 4:40am each morning. this particular morning i was on the main street heading towards my drop off point. after stopping at the red light, i see a vehicle in the opposite lane at the stop light with no headlights on. so out of courtesy, i flashed my lights to let the driver know his/her headlighs were not on.

when the stop light changed to green, i proceeded forward. i look in my rear view mirror and see police lights. of course i pulled over. the policeman approached me and my infant (4mos old) passenger. he asked for my d.l. and insurance. i complied. the problem was, he had this very bright light shinning right in my child's eyes. it was apparent that the light was hurting my child's eyes. politely, i mentioned to the officer the issue with the light. he ignored me and asked me what i was doing out at that time of the morning. i told him i was on my way to work and was dropping my child off at day care. (now at no time did he tell me why i was stopped.) he mockingly said, "what business do you work at that opens at 5:00am? i told him and he answered by saying, "you mean to tell me you have to be at work this early in the morning?" i nodded expressing an affirmative to the question. he then took my d.l. and insurance paper-work and entered his vehicle to radio dispatch to confirm my identification and valid driver's status and verify current vehicle registration.

once again (after more than 10 minutes) i asked him to take the light out of my childs eyes. he ignored my request and grilled me again by asking where in the area was there a day-care that opened that early in the morning. i replied by giving him the address.

after a pause, he said i could go. however he never told me why i was stopped, even after politely asked 2 times. i asked him for a business card or if he could tell me his name. he replied by saying, just leave mam, and then handed me my paperwork.

later on after i got to work, (15mins late) i told my former supervisor of the incident and was told flashing vehicle lights was a way gangs signaled each other. which is what the officer could have told me.

luckily i was quick enough to get the officer's vehicle number and called in to the p.d. and made a complaint. after a meeting with his watch commander the next day, i was told the cop would be reprimanded and an apology was issued to me by phone. (i left the watch commander my phone number).

the death of the girl that was tased by the hands of the officer imo = over zealous cop!

If she had fallen on a patch of grass, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

no ,some people have a heart condition which means they might die if tased

so tasing people IS abuse

Then it should be outlawed.

When it's outlawed and still used, I will be first in line to cry foul.

...and as an 'fyi'...anyone who has a heart condition and runs from a cop threatening to tase them is pretty much committing suicide.
