Twin Peaks

Me and a few others got into a Twin Peaks discussion on my FNM thread lol

Any who, who else is a fan of this great show?

Twin Peaks is my favorite show right after The Sopranos, The Wire & The X-Files.

Sadly it only lasted 2 seasons sad

But it was an odd, weird, funny, creepy show! made so by the wonderful David Lynch

It really was a fantastic show.

The episodes that were directed by David Lynch have that unmistakable Lynch directing style, they are off the hook.

I agree with npgmaverick in that it can make you laugh, some scenes and characters are very funny, and the next moment it can scare you.

A truly original series, there will never be another like it.

Anyone seen Fire Walk With Me? It was the movie (again directed by Lynch) about the last seven days of Laura Palmer. It's quite good.

You can pick this up on dvd very cheaply (at least in the UK).

Hands down one of the best shows on American TV ever. The first season was like nothing that has ever been on the air. The imagery, the dialogue and lord the music. It was so otherworldy.

I still freak out when I watch some scenes.

Some people don't know how to react to the show, i know a lot of people didn't like. They didn't know if it was supposed to be campy or why it was over the top, or if it was suppoed to be over the top. it confused a lot of people lol

I get it, but i can see why some don't like it... it's so ahead of it's time...

As i mentioned i'm a huge X-Files fan and Mark Snow the composer did some non composing work on Twin Peaks & David Duchovney was in a few eps as well!

It was. nod More importantly, it was far ahead of its time even for pay channels like HBO or Showtime, where it would be perfectly fit today. Ironically, it aired on ABC, and while the TV executives who ran the network were well aware of David Lynch's unusual storytelling and visual style, they grew concerned that most of their audience wouldn't get his work the way fans of his movies did. So they kept asking David Lynch to reveal the killer of Laura Palmer by the end of the first season. Lynch's plan was that Laura Palmer's killer would never be revealed; instead, the investigation would lead to the town being like Alice In Wonderland.

Finally...the TP thread!!!! biggrin

I first got into this show when it first aired, and have been hooked ever since! Like most of Lynch's movies, this television show stays with you long after viewing. It was created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. The Lynch-directed episodes by far are the real standouts, but there was a multitude of great guest directors who each contributed their own Lynch-insbired sensibility to the show. It lasted only two seasons, mainly because it kept getting shifted around the schedule, and moved to different nights of the week. The Gulf War didn't do anything to help keep people interested in the show because it was constantly pre-empted.

The imagery of David Lynch, the music of Angelo Badalamenti, the singing of Julee Cruise, and the well-written, slowly-paced story made it the most original television show on the air. There was nothing like it before, and inspired a ton of shows since, ie; The X-Files, Lost, and many others.

IMO, it's the best television show of all-time!!!(Though I'm biased, because I'm a HUGE Lynch fan!!!) There's a Twin Peaks Forum, I've been on for years....I could talk about this show forever and ever....but I'll let someone else post now........ biggrin

Hopefully the entire series will be released on blu-ray including the pilot episode. I still have all the shows on VHS when I taped then way beck then in storgae. David Lynch has been busy these days with Blue Velvet on Blu-ray recently, his album, and coffee table book of his drawings and doodles.

I agree with that, Laura Palmer is spoken about as being troubled and having secrets throughout the series, and you get so into it that you think, "well....what was she like?" So the FWWM movie shows you some of that, it ties up loose ends.

I like that it can quite easily be viewd before or after one watches the series, prologue or epilogue.

Though if you never seen the series, you should watch the movie afterwards, only because it will give away the mystery of who killed Laura, along with other things that wouldn't make any sense, unless you've seen the tv show first.

Pete Martell is very funny, I also really like the Mayor, he kills me. lol

Dick Truman is also very funny.

I think my favorite character must be Ben Horn, I loved how he changed from sleazy business guy to caring sharing do gooder.
