Why do some of you act like MJ invented skin lighteners? You should look at the shit they sell in places like India, Bangkok and Korea.

Honestly, i dont understand why people do that skin lightening stuff, their skin always looks really odd and unnatural. What's wrong with having natural sunkissed tans?

I don't get that or ORANGE TANS either, unless it's for medical/camoflague reasons.

They hate themselves, which is sad.

MJ looked so ugly when he underwent that transformation. It's kinda obvious he hated his brown skin and features, but i think his fans don't want to admitt that.

If he loved his nose so much why did he cut it up to oblivion?

The skin thing can be debated, i believe he had some skin diesease but that nose change is .... sad

He did have vitiligo. The autopsy confirmed it.

sigh

I don't know his opinion on his features...I just can say that I understand why he had surgery on it.

You try being a child star of a one of THE most popular singing groups in history, and have your father everyday (when he'd not beating you) tell you you're ugly and your nose is too big. And you're growing up in an industry where looks are 9/10's of the law? Yeah...you would have some self-esteem issues there. 'Sides, the first surgery was because he broke his nose back in the 70's.

And why is his surgery a topic of conversation? I personally think it's nobody's business. Stars get plastic surgury all the time and I never hear people talk about it the way they talk about Michael Jackson's. Seriously...disbelief

It's becuase he went overboard. His nose started to look unnatural and horrid.

Of course people are going to talk.

Two thoughts...

First, has anybody as famous on a global scale ever had as much plastic surgery as Michael Jackson? I'm thinking no.

Second, people grew up with him, they knew how he looked. Then he went and CHANGED the way people had always known him. And not just a little. Completely ignoring the skin color change (which I understand was at least partially a medical issue), there are literally tens of thousands of before and after pictures showing how much he changed. Dude looked like two different people, and most observers seemed to prefer the way the first guy looked.

That's why it got/gets talked about so much. IMO.

^Then we as a society have really taken a dive, morally.

A man who's given us plenty or music and shows to make us smile, and given millions to charity...alluva sudden there's a problem when the man makes personal choices as trivial as some plastic surgery? Or a skin disorder he couldn't control? Or natural changes in appearance that come with age?

disbelief

I don't think what anybody has contributed to the world makes any difference in regards to commenting on their apparantly being so unhappy with their own appearance that they would make themselves into a different person. Comments and questions are fair game at that point, imo. The content and tone of those comments could ALWAYS be called into question. But not the act of commenting itself. He was a globally recognized celebrity who drastically changed his appearance. There is no way that is was never going to be a topic of conversation.

Now, all the other stuff that went on in his life certainly added to tone of those comments, but that's a different discussion altogether.

I believed he bleached to even out his white patches. One smoking gun, was his over usage of umbrellas. When you're a chronic bleacher you're skin becomes resistant to the harmful rays of the sun. How sad you can't enjoy a beautiful sunny day because of your quest for even skin.

He should of just kept the patched skin..he would've been a hero and the face for people with vitiligo. He could have instilled confidence and pride in many virgito suffers, but he didn't so whatever. It's to late to talk about what ifs.

If you were famous, would YOU walk around feeling like you look like a cow? sad I've met people suffering from depression who had vitiligo and they were crying so much about their disease progressing and I had to keep from holding back myself cause I was thinking of michael the whole time.

I don't believe MJ didn't want to be black though I believe discrimination hurt him badly when he felt rejected and wanted to break barriers in the industry. His reasons for surgery were psychological and not sociological if anything, and we have Joseph to thank for that, though it first started with falling onstage and breaking his nose. I don't believe he had just 2 on his nose either though it certainly wasn't 50 nor his whole face, just the nose and chin.

You know, some white girl years ago accused me of not wanting to be what I am cause I coloured my hair though it was just highlights that complimented my features. I was really offended. You would think I changed my skin colour and not my hair with the way she said it.

A lot of people change their appearance though, are they being other than what they are if they get coloured contacts, or a different hairstyle or colour, or different makeup colours? MJ is different from them cause he had a skin disorder and kept 'touching up' his surgery for whatever reason, but I'm just saying.... they don't really get flack for it

And Micheal Jackson could've change peoples perception of viitiligo just by being proud of his patchy skin and Vitiigo wouldnt have been such a taboo subject.

I don't disagree with you and he could have done something with it too, considering he has supported many causes, but I believe like with most illnesses, dealing with it on a psychological level and admitting you are suffering can be traumatizing in the beginning. He simply found it easier to help other causes that didn't impact him personally but he further developed empathy for those in general feeling isolated. But it's his face, skin, appearance etc. he had acne issues before and his dad called him ugly, he clearly never got over it so he didn't have the confidence to take a stand and do something like that as a man rather than a boy, and was in denial for the longest time of his patches until 84-ish. I guess he was ready in 93' to say it was a skin disorder.

Her acting felt really weird to me in that movie, but she was definitely good eye candy.

And Zooey is cool. She's still America's Manic Pixie It Girl. lol
