A Stranger Took a Picture of My License Plate

An orger posted this thread in July:

http://prince.org/msg/100/339497

Have you ever witness someone taking a picture of your licence plate?

That really makes me angry.

Anyone else? feel this way?sad neutral mad confused

>>>The same thing happened to me two weekends ago and I was reminded of this thread. A complete stranger did a U turn, backed up to where my car was parked and then took a picture of my license plate he then drove off.

It was a caucasian man with a white beard probably in his 40s-60s. He was driving a 4-door jeep type vehicle.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know why this might happen--is it a pyramid scheme as one poster suggested on the original thread or is there some sort of cyber-tag thing going on and/or are random Orgers being stalked?

try to fix link edit

Do you have a personalized plate? There is a chance that person just liked it if that's the case. Or they could be a stalker out to get your indentity, either or.

Are you in the UK or US?

Here in the UK License plate theft is quite common, Criminals use the Plates to slap on another Car then go on a Crime spree, leaving the innocent party with Speeding Tickets, Parking fines etc as the Theft often goes unreported, in fact myt Wife had her Plates stolen and within 3 months we had 22 Speeding Tickets eek , all of which where nullified because we reported the Plates stolen prior to the offences.

I dont know if you can get your License plates made in teh US in the same way as here in the UK, but regardless I would keep this in mind.

Although most People think it Trivial, I would report this to the Police, mainly to protect yourself should your license plate be cloned and then used for crime purposes.

Unless as mentioned you have an "interesting" Private Plate smile

yes. first, fat blonde bitch woke me up at 6:30 a.m. by ringing my doorbell repeatedly (as she had been at all hours of the night and day for several weeks), then, she had the nerve to wait out back where my car was parked, drive up and slow down five feet away and eyeball me as i got into it. that was not long before my place was broken into so yeah, i'd say be aware of what's going on around you and maybe report the behavior.

Nope, no personal license plate. It was bizarre because I'd just done a u-turn into a parking space. He did the same but drove past my car and then backed up just to take a picutre of my license plate. Then he sped off. sad

Thanks for the info. I don't have a personalized plate and I live in the U.S. Here they actually steal the plate and attach it to perhaps a stolen vehicle to commit crimes.

This was stranger than that as his sole objective seem to be to take a picture of my plate. It was wierd and scarry. I'm not sure the cops would do much about it seeing as I have no proof.

I wondered if this had happened to more than just me and the other person who started the original thread.

I don't know if this can be done or if this make sense. Maybe, go to DMV, and turn in those plates for new ones? In case a crime exists, the police can see that the plates were cancelled, and you were not involved nor do you have to pay tickets on them shrug

Identity Thief! He's going to go to your Department of Motor Vehicles and get all your info. Report what happened to them so they can red flag your info.

Thanks, I think I'll report the whole thing to the DMV and ask them what options and suggestions they have.

Since the photographer made a thread I'm gonna assume it's a personalized Prince related plate.

If this is the case, isn't the whole point of personalized plates to get attention? confuse

I missed this post on first read.

I'd love to see the thread you're talking about because now it doesn't (in my tiny little brain) make sense at all why someone would make a thread on the org about your (or anyone's) license plate.

there is a work at home scam that deals with this kind of thing.

as for calling the police? what is the crime? and the DMV? same deal what could they do?

they could just as easily write it down, make a voice memo or do what i do just remember it!

but like i said I think it is some kind of scam where the photo taker is the victim.

but it brings up the creepy part: with your plate number anyone can get all sorts of info on you and people you know. One web site lets you look up anyone that has ever lived at a given address (well in the last 20ish years)
