Antonia (Antonia's Line)

3/5 a pretty nice film about a woman and her family, it's not really deep, but I liked it.

i saw this on youtube in parts ( i know, lame) because i just couldn't find it anywhere else . what drew me to it is that admittedly the latest Almodovar movie The Skin That I Inhabit (still unreleased) is quite influenced by this french horror film and that got me really curious. well, it's definitely one of the creepiest films i have seen in a while and it's excellent too. 4 stars!!

First, a complaint (actually, I have several complaints). Why do they put the pictures of actors on a poster and then not put their name underneath them? Look at this poster - how hard would it have been to flip the pics of Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin?

OK, onto the movie. This movie was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT to me. Here are all the reasons why:

1. The ending was stupid. I know this was an adaptation of a book, and the book probably explained more about this, but I was watching the movie, not reading the book. The ending was stupid and made absolutely no sense.

2. Tommy Lee Jones' character sucked. He was "laconic". Yeah, that's ALL he was. His character could have been completely removed from the movie and absolutely no one would have noticed. I read the synopsis of the book on Wikipedia, which explained Jones' character was suffering from guilt over an incident in WWII. Yet, unless I blinked and missed something, this was not mentioned at all in the movie, and it really did make Jones' character absolutely irrelevant. Pretty odd treatment for the presumed star of the movie!

3. Woody Harrelson's character was wasted. There was no point in his character at ALL. He made some statement in an office about what a tough guy he was, and then he went out crying like a little baby. And again, his character added not one single thing to this movie.

4. Josh Brolin's character was totally screwed. They made this big deal about Brolin being a badass - and he was, great performance while they let him live - and then set it up with the phone conversation between him and Bardiem that Brolin was going to come looking for him. And then the next thing you know, he's gunned down in El Paso by a bunch of other people, and it was NEVER EXPLAINED WHO THEY WERE OR HOW THEY KNEW WHERE TO GO. This movie would have been a good movie if Brolin could have had it out with Bardiem to the finish. But to be killed offscreen by a bunch of unexplained hoodlums? What a travesty.

5. Why was Brolin's wife killed? And why was there a funeral for her mother, but not for Brolin? The killing of Brolin's wife was totally mishandled, as was almost everything else in this movie.

6. NO LAWMAN WORTH HIS SALT WOULD WEAR A WHITE BLANKET ON A BROWN HORSE. You might as well have a "HERE I COME, PLEASE SHOOT ME BEFORE I CAN EVER SEE YOU!" sign on your chest, which is exactly where you're going to get shot.

7. Barry Corbin was great, he should have won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. But like everything else in this movie, his presence and relevance was totally unexplained.

This movie was so, so good for about an hour and fifteen minutes. But once they killed off Brolin, it totally sucked eggs, and ended with the worst, most stupid ending I've ever seen.

Based on this movie and the "True Grit" remake, my opinion is that the Coen brothers hire great cinematographers and set designers but screw up everything else.

I give this move one star out of five, only because the first hour or so was really, really good.

In the big scheme of things, this is one of the most minor mistakes the Coen brothers made.

Turning Point - after seeing this movie for the first time since I was 12 I have to laugh why this movie stayed in my mind after all these years because I sure didn't remember a damn thing about the plot or storyline, all I remember is it had ballet in it and Mikhail Baryshnikov lol well there were no crazy ballerinas in it at least.

4/5 I haven't cried like that after a movie in a long time. Haven't read the book, but I think I might.

Burma is a good girl who goes to a party, smokes marijuana, and winds up going skinny-dipping with her girl friends. When one of the girls drowns, the dope pushers come up with a plan to hide the body. A turn of events leads up to Burma being pregnant and unmarried. She is forced to give the child up for adoption and become a drug dealer. In the film's ending, Burma hatches a plan to kidnap her sister's adopted daughter, but the child is, in fact, her own.

Funny sometimes how tastes differ. I LOVE this movie. Especially because of your points 1. and 4. Actually, I think both the ending and Brolin's death off camera were absolutely brilliant. It touches on the same topic that can also be found in "A serious man": Life's total randomness.

9/10 from me.

Cute modern fairy tale with a bit of cruel reality throw in. Nevertheless this film cleverly avoids anything too graphic, and manages to be touching, sexy, harsh, and sweet. But I only understood every fourth word, so...

I thought No Country for Old Men was great!

The wife wanted to watch Just Go with It last night. As far as shitty romantic comedies go, this was decent. I'd give it 2 out of 10. Watched Drive Angry the other day. Why I didn't turn that turd off 10 minutes in to it, I don't know. Might have been because I was hoping Cage's co star was gonna get naked. Another disappointment! I give it 0 out of 5 and wish I could give less!

If you're not doing the fucking, then you're taking one.

I was looking for something to unwind me and make me laugh before I went out of town last week; wasn't the best choice. A wasted opportunity for a comedy dream cast to shine and make much ado about family relationships- Adam Sandler needs to work on his writing. What could have been comedy gold fell flat in too many places.
