Disney/Pixar has released the first trailer for Andrew Stanton's John Carter, formerly known as John Carter of Mars and based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' groundbreaking science fiction novels.

Burroughs himself appears in what looks like a framing story for the film, which stars Taylor Kitsch in the title role and Lynn Collins as Princess Dejah Thoris.

Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon (the Escapist) worked on the film, which at first glance appears both faithful to its source material and exciting, along with Stanton and Mark Andrews.

It opens nationwide in 3D on March 9th, 2012.

Well that looks pretty damn good. I'm still anticipating 'Brave' more, but I trust Andrew Stanton completely after Wall-E, so I'll be there for this one.
