A "Curb Your Enthusiasm" Newbie Here(Wave!)

Seriously, I have no idea how I let this show slip from under my radar.

What did Jeff say at some point? "A big bowl of wrong" falloff thats the exact description of everything I saw so far from the show. I felt so guilty laughing at some of the stuff too.

Larry telling that little singing girl to shut the ENTIRE fuck up was the cherry on the cream, though evillol

yes a very uncomfortable show, a little like Ricky Gervais characters.

But it is like a postscript to Seinfeld. They have so much in common.

Haha, yeah, I just started watching the dvds from the beginning (via Netflix). Larry is such a dumbass. Everytime he starts with someone - trying to explain something or complain, I'm like, "Stop talking, Larry!" George was my least fave Seinfeld character, seeing Larry David as "himself" completely explains why. He's so despicable. disbelief

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

This should be my favourite show. Everything is there for me, the cringe-factor, the social awkwardness, the shooting down of social niceties, but it's just missing something I can't quite put my finger on.

It might be the acting, some seem to struggle with no script. Or it might be Larry David himself..... confused

Compare it with The Office. What elevates that show (for me) is the performance by Ricky Gervais. He's pitch perfect whereas Larry David is sometimes just a bit too shouty for me.

Great show though all the same!

I think that made the cringe-worthy situations even more pronounced and Larry even more obnoxious, comic relief wise lol

One thing for sure though, I'd love to check out The Office. "The Invention Of Lying" was the first thing that made me take notice of Ricky.

clearly he did!

I was just surprised to discover (after watching Curb) how much of his style was imprinted upon Seinfeld. It's as much Larry's style as it is Jerry's style.

Do that, Gervais at his best.
