In total honesty...

I dislike that my body isn't as tight as it used to be, I dislike that i'm getting a few grey hairs and a few wrinkles. I dislike that I go into a club and feel old.

In a nutshell - I dislike that i'm no longer the girl that lots of guys fancy.

[Edited 1/24/11 7:05am]

When I turn up at a night club the bouncer asks if I am there to pick up my daughter lol

I would but then I am old razz

lol You know when you're too old for nightclubs - when you walk in and say to your friend 'god, it's so loud in here' or 'she must be freezing wearing that'.

It depresses the hell out of me because all my older relatives that I care for have died and I watched them having to be cared for by their children. As a gay male, I have no children and I wonder what's going to happen to me when I can no longer care for myself.

I've always wondered what happens to gay people when they get old. Most of us (well gay men anyway) don't have lovers. (Most lesbians I've encountered have lovers). That means there's no one living with us that can care for us and since we don't have children, there's no one outside of the home that can care for us unless we pay them and so many of us don't have a lot of money. Every gay person I've known has died before they reached old age and a lot of the ones in the generation before me lived in a closet all their life and married women but had men on the side in secret. I've never seen too many aging gay men except for celebrities and they have plenty of money to pay for care. It should be very interesting to see what happens to my generation when it gets old....frightening is more the word for it.

hi....well i have been on the org now for nearly ten years and i will be the grand old age of 43 next month..... eek ....i find the ageing process very interesting....i didnt really see much of a difference in how i look up until my early 30s when my hair started receding slightly...which has continued of course but i still have a fair head of hair ....getting slowly grey but ..again..not too bad yet....so its not too severe...most of my male friends around my age have little hair left...my face has become a bit more weather beaten...still dont have many wrinkles apart from around my eyes....i have put a bit of weight on around the mid rift...but thats got a lot to do with my 3 year old girl taking all my free time...hope to hit the gym more this year....

.

so yes i look older but not too bad....i have noticed that the ageing process seems to speed up after you hit 40..?...i also have noticed my ears have gotten longer ?....strange thing ageing.....

.

any fellow orgers here starting to push it....how you getting on with it...?

I'm 43 and I'm surprised at how so many of the men my age look 63 instead of 43. I'm talking facewise. I ain't never had no great body and never have excercised or worked out in gyms but as far as my face goes, I still have a "baby" face like I always have....except with some salt and pepper mixed in my hair. lol I think I look like I'm in my 30s....if I have a hat on my head. lol

at nearly 39 I watch an admittedly good movie like Inception, and all I can think is that Leo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt look like little boys playing make believe.

I just turned 38 last month and getting older really doesn't bother. I freaked out when I turned 35 and found a few gray hairs. I got over that in a hurry. I just started back to college and was worried I would be the "old bat" in all my classes. So not true as there are lots of people my age and older going to school! I agree with the poster who said they worry about their mom getting older. My mother-in-law has been sick for ages and keeps on going. A good example of living life! Plus, I like the fact that I actually understand college with years of work experience behind me. (well most of it) The wisdom part is a good thing! I cringe at some of the things that I used to do!

one good option might be to purchase a long-term care health insurance plan. for a monthly premium, a person can 'buy' coverage amounts ranging from 200,000 on up. if/when you become incapacitated, you can actually request benefits in the form of cash payouts, which enable you to hire live-in or daily care. something to think about.

Physically, as far as my face and body go, they're holding up pretty well probably because I never married nor birthed children, so I kept my figure. Not having a husband didn't drive me to drink, so I don't have a lot of wrinkles and my titties still stand up at attention, and I'll be 61 in July.

The biggest change is body mobility. Don't let my ass have to get up off the floor...it can take a while and usually involves all fours and something to hoist my ass up. Even getting up from a seated position has its tricks.

Mentally, it can be trying. Sometimes I forget shit 2 minutes afterwards. I get a little absent-minded at times.

How do I view it? Without my glasses, if at all possible.

This morning, I was walking upstairs from the laundry room and I sneezed and had wincing pain in my lower right back. It still hurts, and it hurts when I cough. For me, even worse than the fact that simple things can now provoke injury is that I actually have to take time out to ponder, Does this just hurt or is it something I REALLY have to worry about?

Still, getting older beats the alternative.

For some reason I, like many in my family and African-Americans in general, have been blessed with good genes making me look younger than I actually am. Also, because I don't things like drugs, drink, smoke etc. I can see myself ageing gracefully. I am trying to work on exercising though. That's the big challenge. But believe it or not I actually dislike lking younger than I appear. Some say that I don't look a day over 18 and that so freakin' irritates me!!! mad I get carded wherever and whenever I go anywhere there's an overage requirement.

My bigger concern is the desire to become successful in life. I turn 30 next year and I feel like I don't have much to show for my artistic talents thus far. There's always this pressure to "hit it big" before the big 3-0 comes around or else you can just pack it up and fugetdaboutit. I don't think that's true, but I would like to have some degree of success as an artist before that dreaded age rolls around.

I really spend very little time "viewing" it ~ to busy living lol

I feel great physically and mentally ~ starting to sleep better than I ever have ~ eating better moving more and in new ways and staying active

I don't have body pains or aches ~ I enjoy the freedom that my 40s have brought me

My eye sight is the same

My teeth are great

My thoughts are clear

I am surrounded by happy healthy (adult) kids we've raised and their kids ...

I can still split wood and carry 80lb bales of hay

I walk 2 miles a day do yoga and Nia

yeah ~ I SERIOUSLY feel no different physically then I did at 30 or 20 and mentally life is so much better than 20 - 30s lol

I work out more now than i ever did, and I never did in high school or college, so I'm in better shape than I ever was. But, I do look older in the face. And the hair is thinner and the hairline is higher. I think. But I also had lasik many years ago, so my sight is better than it was when I was young. I have more friends now than I ever did... I sleep about the same amount.

I don't eat everything I would normally have at a younger age! But I also think I get colds and stuff a lot less.

I do get more of a tired feeling in my eyes and expression though if I haven't slept.

And got forehead wrinkles

and white hairs on my goatee area.

That it sucks, with all the mental realization part, and the obvious physical things that come with it and the knowledge there's more to come and trying to make peace with it.

Well im approaching my 43rd year much the same as my 33rd, im roughly the same weight, a full head of hair granted laced with a few sparkly bits...(grey).

I tend now to sit forward to see the football results on Tv...(the lamps a fading).

Facially the laughter lines are now a permanent feature, but i still look good...(still vain).

In a nutshell in my mind im 21, in the mirror im 42.But having said that at 21 all i had was a beat up car and a hangover, now i have a beautiful partner and two gorgeous boys and the rest of my life to enjoy.

So no regrets chin chin.. wink

I threw my back out for the first time just over a year ago. It happened while LAYING ON THE COUCH WATCHING TV. neutral

It was my upper back and it hurt SO badly I tried to go to work the next day but ended up making an appointment and leaving to see my doctor. I asked what I could do to prevent it going forward and was told “Nothing, it just happens. Exercise is always good.” Blah blah blah. I was given muscle relaxers (which did nothing but put me to sleep – they didn’t even dull the pain, just allowed me to sleep through it) and sent on my merry way.

I think I’ve always looked younger than I am. Mentally and physically I’m in a much better place than I was 10 years ago.

I do worry about showing my age with things like wrinkles and saggy body parts but everything else only seems to get better with time. So I think I’ll take it.
