Snowed in...how long is the longest you have been stuck in?

Ok, so our snow started in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday, did not stop until last night.

We got about 16-18 inches.

Doesn't sound like much but when you live in a place like England, it causes major problems.

How long have you been stuck in by snow?

I am getting bored with this now! I am not sure how people live in places that get snow all of the time.

Bleck!

Anyways, here's my boy getting ready for going to the valley to go sledding. (or sledging as the English say wink )

Come on, photowhore your snow photos!

As a child, 2 weeks the city of Boston was frozen. It was the blizzard of 1978....we had snowdrifts that were roof high and the National Guard had to be called in to rescue people. since I was a kid and school was in session, I loved it.

Now, as an adult, I've only been snowed in for 3 days. I love my home and any excuse for us all to hang out together is a good one as long as we have boardgames, hot chocolate and firewood.

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

The kids at Happy Valley yesterday were having a blast.

No cars on the road, sleds everywhere.

It's a crazy amount of snow for England! We live on a busy 40mph road, the traffic is currently travelling at a speed of about 10mph past our house!

My kids school has closed until it clears a bit and my 2 are loving the snow. I took them sledging yesterday and today we're going to stay home and play in the garden.

This is the only pic I have (already posted on Facebook). We did a lot of video yesterday, but I won't bore everyone with that.

i was snowed in once for three days. but the thing about living in the northland is, no matter how much it snows here we have what it takes to dig right out, so there's never really any long period of being frozen in place ...

Yes, where we are is on top of a hill and they are not plowing or gritting.

So we are sort of stuck. We can walk to the store which is almost a mile, I am very thankful they are there!

It is getting boring now. I guess if we did not have a 13 month old around we could use our fireplace and I could sit still long enough to read a book.

Would have been better if it happened over the Christmas break so we had new toys to play with.

Being from Minnesota, growing up in the suburbs and always living in the city after that, I'm rarely ever truly snowed in because we have the infrastructure, technology, preparation techniques, etc. to deal with it.

The longest I remember was a few days I got snowed in at a friend's house during the great halloween blizzard of '91. My parents actually came to get me in about 2 feet of snow. We're hardcore in Minnesota.

Everyone who was alive then remembers the halloween blizzard of '91. There's even a wiki page on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...n_Blizzard

They are saying that this is the worst snow we have had here in 100 years.

I am not sure that I am hardcore enough to live in Minne. Though I have walked to and from to get groceries, showeled snow and went sledding.

I have driven in the snow before when I was in PA. There is no way I will drive in the snow here.

I've never been snowed in, but in a weird way, I'd like to be (presuming I had electricity and plenty of provisions). The closest I've ever come is when I was about 10 or so, we got a huge midwestern snowstorm in Iowa right after Christmas. My sister was supposed to fly back home to California, but the snow meant her flight was delayed for an extra two days. In my mind, it extended Christmas by two days...it's a really happy childhood memory.

I drove to pick up our takeaway last night. It was great fun - luckily the roads were almost empty.

You have beautiful children. . .

Three weeks to a lil' over a month, the blizzards of '68 and 78 in Chicago. Both times the city wasn't prepared even though we had been in a cycle of bad weather. I split my time between Chicago and a town that lies on the shore of Lake Michigan, we get something called lake effect snow, it snows a

lot along the lakefront while the outline areas don't get a flack.

My longest "stuck" period wasn't for snow, but for an ice storm that Wisconsin in March of 1976. We were without power for two days.

Still, we weren't stuck completely, we managed to get out of the house on the second day for my sister's diving meet and the state hockey championships. (Though we stayed in a hotel that had power that night. My mom told my dad no way was she sitting in a cold, powerless house overnight with four bored kids.)

I love my mom. touched

We got home the next day and the TVs were on - like they had been before the power went out. lol

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Ice Storm of '98.

10 days with no power AT ALL. We were one of the only families that did not leave for community centers. We used our wood burning stove to heat, cook and melt snow so we could flush the toilet.

It was the very first time in my life that I played cards...and played and played and played. And listened to Wheel of Fortune on the battery operated radio...we tried to guess the puzzles. lol

Sounds like the time we had a hurricane in Florida and had to evacute. We stayed with a friend of our Aunts that lived in a non-flood zone.

I played lots of cards. I was bored silly.

Luckily, when we were stranded without power for the hurricane it was warm out and we used our gas & charcoal grills to cook.

nod Camping equipment is awesome to have....lanterns are especially the best when the power is out. We have been fortunate in that we usually have our plumbing intact when snowed in.....but again, if that wasn't the case.....like somebody said, melted snow will do the trick.

When I was living in Finland, I was snowed in for about 7-8 days. That was a time of sleep and internet, sleep and internet, sleep and internet. And once in Maryland, I was snowed in at work for 2 days!! And another time we were snowed in and I was at home for about 3 days. I usually do alot of sleeping and watching tv. I've never been without power during a snowstorm.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Just last February. The Washington DC metropolitan area was blasted with 22-24" of snow. The snow on my deck drifted to 3 feet against the sliding glass door. I had to lliterally dig myself out of the house. I had to monitor my front door all through the night so that I could shovel the snow away so that the door could open. I had to do that about 3 times during the night, it was snowing furiously.

I wasn't working at University at that time, but I heard that they were shut down for a week.

When I saw the news about England's storm, it didn't look like a lot of snow to me. It looked to be about 6-8 inches and I thought, "Damn! Is that all?!" lol
