she got here Saturday night and she wore out her welcome 27 hours after she got off the plane. This woman flew from California to Texas to help my wife with our new baby and daughter. She got pissed off at me last night because I didn't put the baby in a new outfit she bought him. Within 5 minutes she was packing her bags saying she felt unwelcome. For a 50+ year old woman. She is so fucking petty and childish.

That's part of the problem. It's 30 degrees and rainy here and she wants to take the baby whose 12 days old to the freakin park. I hate the day her parents met.

Have you sat down and talked to your mother-in-law about how you feel? I don't mean just doing what you want, but that you appreciate all that she is doing? In the case of family, it's always easy to get pissed off and angry, because they get in your face. But for the sake of you, your wife, and your newborn...have a chat with your mother-in-law - see if you two can meet in the middle.

But for the sake of you, your wife, and your newborn...have a chat with your mother-in-law - see if you two can meet in the middle. The real problem is that she and my wife can't spend more than 2 days together. She knew this before she booked her plane ticket. Her views of child raising...well, I can't even say they are liberal. They are just plain stupid. She puts so much pressure on my wife it's ridiculous. As a result, I wind up listening to my wife vent for hours about stuff that wouldn't be a problem if she would just put her mother in her place. I actually did take her to an abandoned parking lot last night at 3 a.m. and spoke to her mainly just to put the fear of God in her. It doesn't seem to have done any good. I'm truly on the verge of telling her to get her shit, get back on a plane, get the fuck out, don't return, and don't expect to see grandchildren again. It would make the world such a better place. I'm just thinking of the children.

Some mothers-in-law can never be reasoned with no matter how hard you try or how many talks you have with them. They're just too domineering and hardheaded.
Sorry about your crummy situation. I guess all you can do is try to keep all visits with her as SHORT as possible, and do whatever you need to to keep your sense of humor and your patience during those visits. I must say if I had a family member wanting to do things like take my 12 day old baby to the park on a rainy, cold, day, who then got mad at me for my not letting them, I think that's when I'd finally tell them maybe it's better if we didn't see one another so often.

Honestly, if we can make it through this visit the next 13 days. I will ask her not to return unless she has somewhere else to stay. When I married my wife, I thought that crazy nutjob mother of hers was funny. But 7 years later I'm now realizing that she is certified crazy and needs some help.

The funny thing is...mother in law is the reason we have this baby. The minute we put her on the plane last year my wife and I ran home and released our frustrations...and here's junior 9 months and 12 days later. If standing in front of the microwave doesn't work, I'm going to schedule a vasectomy next week.

You don't actually have to have sex...just sound like you are...
chickengrease, seriously I'm sorry to hear this - the transition involved with a new baby is hard enough. You might consider (if ok with your wife) that you politely ask her to leave. Before it gets ugly.
