I saw the show and while she will always be my favorite Aunt Vivian from the show, she still seems bitter from whatever happened way back then almost 20 years ago. From her story of how things went down, seems like she was fired because of a negative attitude while she is hinting that it was Will who actually told "the powers who be" that she needed to go. At least that's how I interpreted her story. shrug

Fresh Prince with her was better. After she went the show went downhill for me.

I plan on only buying the seasons with her in it.

That is exact what happened. nod No matter how irresponsible he was sometimes, Will was THE star of the show. And since there were some differences between Will & Janet, it was so obvious that the suits at NBC were going to side with Will regretless of who was right or wrong.

From what I can see of her; she's a hardcore New York working actor. Their mentality is completely different from the Hollywood grind, different aims, different goals, different cores of artistry. Somehow I'm not surprised that it didn't work out for her with Smith. She still has that New York grit and steel about her, even after all these years. I think this line is particularly telling;

"...if you want me to kiss someone's ass, put it in my contract"

Love that. smoker martini

I love that line lol

Even though I was a huge fan of the show as a kid, looking back at it now, I think she's the ONLY cringe unworthy face from that crowd(aside from the women who played her sisters - I absloutly love Jenifer Lewis & Charlayne Woodard and would love to see more from them beside the sidekick roles).

Yeah, that was my take as well. . .

I very seldom caught "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air but I always like Ms. Hubert performances, she had great chemistry with other actors. Even so, I think sista-girl got it a bit confused as did Star Jones, Sheryl Lee Ralph (who played Moesha stepmother on her sitcom) did, it's not your show. lol I maybe wrong but I think it irked Ms. Hurbert that a 20 something rapper had a show written for him and everyone else was just that, the supporting cast. I'm from the 'theator', good for her but if it was so distasteful she could've finished out her contract and gone back to the 'theator'. Did anyone ask her to kiss Mr. Smith ass? I think Ms. Hurbert was upset no one was kissing her ass. my two cents

Unfortunately, I don't have the tvone channel, so I missed this show. I was only able to see a couple of video clips online. Judging from what I've seen, I have to agree with this statement. I also think that Janet Hubert might have pissed people off because she wasn't a doormat. Everyone knows that the entertainment business is hard on women of color, so she had to be tough in order to survive. Her race might be one of the reasons why she was fired. I don't see why Janet couldn't keep her job because she was getting the job done on set. She still came to work and did her part. White celebs act like fools all the time and they still keep their jobs. Some of those fools don't even have talent!

I also think that she's right about Will Smith. I'm sure that he probably was arrogant because of his success, so he was difficult to work with as well. Look at him now. The Pinkett-Smith family is getting weirder as the days go by. I believe that fame and fortune have gone to their heads, so I can see that Janet has a point.

I'm surprise Janet Hubert NEVER dissed exective producer Quincy Jones. I mean, Will Smith was Quincy's boy. Not to mention that it was Quincy's idea to create a show that revolve around a G-rated rap artist at the time.

Just saying. lurking

I don't think Janet Hurbert ever had any issues with Quincy Jones. She said, Mr. Smith called the shots and he probably did, it was his show. Look, I don't take exception of what most of what she said, it maybe true. I don't know of many African American actors/actress who hasn't taken issue with the bordline buffoonery that's still apart of most Black sitcoms. When she claims "Fresh Prince . . " was to be an ensemble cast, red herring. lol I think the little green monster came out and this trained actress impart couldn't deal with snotty nose and I'm sure brash novice /upstart. The lawsuit was ill advised, her lawyer didn't serve her well. ( IMHO)

That's the way it seemed to me. I remember when all that was going on Will came out

and stated that she wanted it to be the Aunt Viv show and he did go on record saying

she stated she can't believe she's been acting all these years and a snot nose brat comes

out of nowhere and get his own show.

Better yet, look at Will's daughter Willow.

She's being groom as the next breakout star in the family beside Jaden.
