Piercing is merely a means of decoration for most people. It's no more an attempt at self-expression or rebellion for most of us than what colour t-shirt we've got on.

I don't fully buy that. Decoration? I think overt decoraction comes from a lack of self-worth, and the need for some attention, whether it's a glance from a stranger, or even someone confronting a piercee by saying "Why is that in your eye brow?"

Besides, most lip pierces are retarded looking, and I've yet to see one that adds anything to a person's beauty. Yes, I get it, it's different, it's out of the norm, but whatever. Wear two different shoes for fuck's sake. But leave the jewelry out of a cheek or a lip. It's gross.

I can understand what she is saying about the whole church thing. Let me break it down:

Depending on the church you go to, church folk are on this trip about body piercings and even tattoos. They say that those acts are forms of mutilating your body - the body that was created by God...so if you are getting any kind of piercings or tattoos then you are sort of looked down upon in the church. But of course the people saying this very thing have their ears pierced wearing earrings, so my thing is, if you going to PREACH it then you need to look at yourself. This way of thinking is totally rediculous to me, then again, you still have church folks who look down upon people who "come as they are" meaning, they come to church in casual clothes as opposed to dressing up in suits or dresses.

Now, my opinion is this, if you want piercings, then get them...but if you feel that it will hinder your job, then I would take some consideration to that first. Now as far as church goes, if you really feel conflicted with what whoever it is will say to you regarding your piercings, and THAT particular church is important to you, then what's wrong with taking them out on the days you go to church????

Basically. For me facial piercings are like gold teeth in that I just can't take seriously people that have them.
