We've had ours for a month now and I can't stand it either. 6:30pm now and the sin is still very high in the sky.

The good thing is I don't think I'll get woken up by the wattle birds at 3:30 in the morning in summer though!

Yeah, for tonight, but much less daylight for the next five months between the earth tilting, and the time change.

I agree with leaving the time alone but only after they change it in the fall. They don't need to change it again in the spring. I absolutely love that it gets dark as soon as I get off of work. If it were up to me, it would be dark 24/7. I never did like the daylight. lol

The move ahead in the spring is when they mess with the time. Tonight we are going back to standard time. If they left the time alone as you wished, it would get dark one hour earlier every night during the spring, summer, and early fall.

Moving the hands on the clock does absolutely nothing to change the amount of daylight we have. It just moves it around.

Indiana will be observing DST soon though. Arizona might be the only hold out to keep Standard time. I think they should just keep DST in effect all the time. It gives more daylight, and just works better. Standard time is just horrible.

There are a few other parts of the US that do not observe DST, too.

And most clocks change on their own, including simple alarm clocks. BOth the clocks in my house change, as does the computer, cable box, cell phones, iPods, etc. The only thing I have to change is the time on the stove, and microwave.

I noticed last night, while cruising the cable guide, that they always prepare ahead for the time changes. The guide went from
12:00 a.m.
12:30 a.m.
1:00 a.m.
1:30 a.m.
1:00 a.m.
1:30 a.m.
2:00 a.m.
etc
...to reflect the fall back. Looked funny.

That's incorrect/correct. Let's remember the words "Daylight SAVINGS". While the earth does tilt toward the sun in the summer months, thereby giving us more daylight in a day, the time shift allows us to enjoy more of that, based on ....well, the time of day, when we would normally go to work, etc. The days are longer because of the earth and sun, yes, but the time shift just lets us get right in where we want to be with it.

Yeah...I graduated from grade school. I know what causes daylight and the seasons. rolleyes

Daylight savings time does not give us more daylight, Einstein. Today, in Madison, WI...we will have 10 hours 19 minutes and 9 seconds of daylight. The sun rose at 7:31 a.m. and will set at 5:51 p.m. Tomorrow, we will have 10 hours 16 minutes and 34 seconds of daylight. The sun will rise at 6:33 a.m. and set at 4:49 p.m.

Today, I woke up in the dark. Tomorrow, it will be light when I wake up. In the spring, the opposite will happen. The only reason for that is congressional meddling with the clock.

Congress cannot make the days longer or shorter - though many of its members are stupid or egotistical enough to think they can.

I hate when it changes in the fall. The only benefit is the
extra hr of sleep for that day. I hate when it's fucking
dark at 5:30. I love the extra daylight during the spring

yeahthat In reality, DST in winter would be even better, because the darkness at 5:30 would be at 6:30, still giving us a bit more "awake" time while it's actually light outside.
