Why is there no outrage? Outrage can affect change, it can inspire legislation, allow for stiffer penalties/punishments. I mean we have very vocal groups devoted to issues of drunk driving, the death penalty, abortoin etc. but where are the organizations that address this type violence against females? "

I think sadly some people just have those sort of brains I think its generally preying on the vulnerable that are less likely to say something or react or indeed hurt them, some men obviously but primarily women, children and elderly or so is publicised. Easy targets and a lesser chance of being found out... despicable. I think if they can be that depraved to begin with then they clearly aren't bothered what people think. Lowest forms of life. I find them to be worse than murderers because at least with murder there is an end to the suffering. Rapists have every intention of destroying one's soul/will to live/identity/sense of self-worth and they do it knowing that society will not fully punish them for the crime. They have figured out a way to blame the victim. We ask, "why did she wear that" or "why was she walking alone" but we never ask this of persons who are murdered or robbed. Rapists do so both physically and mentally. They are a cancer on humanity. "

I mean we have very vocal groups devoted to issues of drunk driving, the death penalty, abortoin etc. but where are the organizations that address this type violence against females? People are complacent because it happens so often. They get tired of hearing about it so often and so just tune it out after a while. It sounds horrible to ignore these things, but can you imagine how emotionally drained you'd be if you got outraged over every case you hear? But I agree that we are, as a society, too soft on crimes like these. But the real problem IMO isn't so much how rapists are handled after the crime is committed, but with the fact that we live in a culture that creates conditions where boys grow up learning it's acceptable to treat women (and sometimes other men) that way. Recently I saw a public safety notice about rape that I thought was extremely well done. It was a list of ways to prevent rape. The first tip? "Don't be a rapist." We need to shift the public mentality away from thinking of rape as a "women's issue" and only focusing on teaching women how to defend themselves, and into a mindset that teaches women AND men that sexual assault is truly reprehensible and unacceptable. [Edited 10/29/09 15:50pm] But stealing and murder happens even more often yet we don't tolerate it at all. Madoff got life in prison for stealing paper. Rapper C-Murder got life in prison for killing some other low life thug like himself (as if we will miss either of them). You can get life in prison for selling so called secrets to a so called enemy country. However, you can rape, beat, violate and mutilate women and children every day in this country leaving them traumatized and damaged and these bastard morlocks just get sent to jail for a few years and sometimes a few months if at all. The justice system (which is overwhelmingly run by men) does not adequately punish the motherfuckers. I think it is sexist. I think this whole issue is about sex and women being viewed as inferior and somehow having to just "take it". Like women in muslim run countries not even having freedom over their own bodies or being able to get an education or those mormon women having to marry and birth babies for old ass dudes who brainwash them into thinking it's okay for a man to have several wives but not a woman to have several husbands. It's all just sick. sick ass male dominated world!! I pray for an uprising. "

Cuz we lock him out of our minds and hearts and think we can do better without him. The state of the world proves otherwise. I think women are more Godly than men. I guess that's why we suffer more. [Edited 10/29/09 20:49pm] "

I learned a long time ago that this life is the Hell religious people talk about. When you hear or see the types of things that go on every single damn second in this world I dont get how anyone could be religious, or say 'everything happens for a reason', those people have not actually seen with their own eyes the types of horrific crimes that are comitted. Nothing will erase sexual violence against women, or any other nightmare situation that goes on in this world. Everyone could get outraged, or even do little things to help, but thats not going to stop the rapists/horrible people commiting the crimes. Only death could stop these people but even then you would have people against that idea, which is also understandable. No one can control anyone.
