My favorite is on the appetizer menu. It's the steamed dumplings and they come with a black sauce that you pour over them. The moo shoo chicken is good too.

There's no good Chinese restaurants in my area anymore because they have been Americanized to suit the tastes of these hicks down here. I remember eating Chinese food with my grandmother back in the 1970s and 1980s before it caught on with a lot of people and they had things like Peking Duck. Hell, I haven't even seen Peking Duck on a menu anymore. When they put in the buffets, that's when they started messing up because things that they put out for children such as fried chicken wings (the KFC type) these adults were eating instead of the Chinese food. I went into one Chinese restaurant a few years ago and saw macaroni and cheese on the buffet and walked out. lol

Around here the Chinese buffets are scary and mostly westernized crap. I head to Chinatown to get my chow mein on.

But if you like Indian, suprisingly there's lots of buffets around here that are excellent. Popular as that kind of cuisine is in Vancouver it's yet to be westernized. woot!

In Argentina at all you can eat buffets, chinese meant chicken with pineapple in a sweet sauce ill and sushi was ham and cheese california rolls falloff falloff

it's like the asian influence never reached that far away or was never embraced. I know the general national "taste" doesn't include sweet in lunches and dinners, that's a breakfast and dessert thing only.

Same down here. I love Indian food. We have one Indian restaurant and it hasn't been Americanized yet. My uncle, who loves all types of different foods and has traveled a lot, told me one thing and I've found it to be true. He said, if you go into a restaurant and you see no customers of that race dining there, the food must not be any good. I've never seen any Chinese customers in any of the Chinese restaurants down here but when I go to the Indian restaurant, damn near all the customers are Indian and I'm one of the few non-Indian people in the entire restaurant....and the food is delicious.

Chinese food here in Thailand is so different. It's generally not the fancy, massively flavorful stuff you get in the west. It's the basic, modest soups and simple rice dishes like khao man gai, chicken on rice cooked in chicken fat. Light sauce drizzled on top and that's it.

We get a great mix of Asian food here in Thailand now that dishes from elsewhere like panang kai, massaman, satay, and noodles with duck have been assimilated into Thai cuisine. Japanese and Korean food is starting to take hold here too. smile

It's always interesting to me to see the difference in "Chinese food" depending on where you get it. lol It's different from region to region in the US and I even positively HATED Chinese food in the UK every time I've tried it there.

My favorite is a really good vegetable egg foo young. I've had really, really bad egg foo youngs, though, so I'm quite picky about them. That's the next recipe I'm going to try to master. So I can make it truly vegetarian and also lower the calorie, fat and sodium content some.
