Same. I thought he was already dead. I thought he died decades ago also. Used to watch him EVERYDAY as a kid, even remember when his show got pulled off the air for some dirty joke he told (that went over all the kids heads - but apparently not the censors, lol). How sad that so many of us thought he had already died. May he be resting peacefully.
