Bad Headache

I've had a terrible headache since last Saturday. It's a dull ache rather than a sharp pain. It's on the right side of my head, but oddly enough my left eyelid has been twitching sporadically all week too.

I also discovered a lump above my right temple yesterday. It just feels like bone - maybe it's always been there? If I press it, the headache subsides a little. The lump feels bruised, although there's no discolouration. Maybe it just feels bruised because I keep pressing it?

It feels like I've banged my head - which I haven't. Maybe I fell out of bed in my sleep and don't remember? I'm sure I'd remember something like that.

Do you think it's just stress? I felt light-headed a couple of times last week. I've been really tired recently and have had a lot of worry at work.

I very rarely get headaches, so this isn't normal for me.

I don't think it's a brain tumour! I haven't lost my balance, sense of smell or slurred my words. It's still worrying though. It's annoying more than anything else. I'm supposed to be going out tonight and I really don't feel up to it.

I have migraines from time to time. Some of them are like that. I also get what seem like balls of light in my vision.

You need a DR to check that out.

I drink about 24 oz of water and take 2 Excedrin for mine,

I get dull headaches on one side of my head sometimes too, and I have begun to associate them with my sinuses.

Lots of water, along with ibuprofin &/or caffeine (or an Excedrin), and the occasional sinus decongestant have helped.

It subsided a little today. I went out with some friends from work for a few hours and had three drinks. By the end of the night I could feel the ache again.

It's still throbbing, but not painful. If I wake-up with it tomorrow, I'm going to gp to the nearest hospital. Maybe they could take an X-Ray, just to set my mind at rest.

The lump seems to have gone down a little. I guess I caused the lump myself by pressing on my right temple. I don't know.

I get debilitating headaches OFTEN. I've gotten migraines for years, but now they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Seems like I'm battling one at least 50% of the time and this has been going on for MONTHS (and getting worse). I know I need to see a doctor, but I don't have health insurance and they always just assign some prescription and do nothing. I'm very cynical about the medical industry and feel like it's a waste of my time to bother.

This is why health insurance should be compulsory for everybody because money should not anyone from getting medical care. In EU I did go to the dr. who referred me to a specialist. They did certain tests and say mine are a combination of cluster and migraine, but they couldn't pin point it. They gave me a very strong prescription, which they didn't know if it would work or not but they didn't to isolate and see what I reacted to. I naturally never got the pills. No thanks. I am not a guinea pig.

Headaches are debilitiating though. I don't drink alcohol at all, never have, but I found cutting out certain foods which tend to trigger migraines helped. French cheese, chocoloate, red wine etc. Google to check which foods you might be taking that could be helping the migraines and try not taking them to see if it helps. It did me, I still get them from time to time but less often. Also stress contributes big time.

See? That's why I haven't bothered seeing a doctor. I did see one years ago and she basically told me exactly what you just said -- avoid trigger foods. Then she gave me a prescription which I never got fulfilled. I can manage them pretty well by taking one Excedrin Migraine pill and drinking caffeine. That really helps. And nothing behavioral seems to effect my headaches one way or the other, it's all hormonal.

Although I now seem to be getting tension headaches which come up the back of my head from tight muscles in my neck. confused

I doubt it is a "lump". The skull isn't formed perfectly flat around the temples anyway, and you probably haven't spent that many days in a row RUBBING YOUR TEMPLES.

I suffer from migranes from time to time. If you can get a perscription from a doctor, I suggest you do that.

If not, you need to take ibuprofen... often marketed as Advil. Get some liquidcaps and pound a couple back.

Did you see the doctor yet? chair

You need to make sure you don't have an anyeurism and check your blood pressure while you're at it. No more drinking till then!

It's gone. I woke-up with it this morning, but it's gone now.

The lump on my head has gone too.

I spoke to my sister this evening and she said there was a bug going around which goes to your head and gives you a headache. I didn't think that bugs could do that - but there you go. I mean, you think of viruses going to your tummy or making you feel fluey...

Maybe it was an ear infection, but I didn't have earache - and that lump was weird.
