I successfully fed a stray dog Friday night!

I was walking down the street and I saw a dog on the other side who was sniffing through litter that was on the sidewalk. You could tell he was hungry and looking for something to eat.

Immediately I wanted to feed him but had no food on me. I saw him go back down a sidestreet and I thought what if I get his food and then I can't find him? Well I went to this liquor store about 4 blocks away and bought a can of dogfood.

Then I came down that sidestreet but from the opposite end from where I first saw him. I was walking slowly down that street to see if I could find him and then I spotted him, laying almost in the middle of the street! Some of you might remember the last time I tried to feed a stray cat. It ended up dead in the street when I came back with the food

So my heart sank because I thought NO, NOT AGAIN!. Then I realized he was just laying there next to a van. So I get as close as I can without startling him and I opened up the food and clicked the top of the can with a plastic knife and he got up and came over. But he stood his distance about 20 feet away just watching me.

I was digging the food out of the can and he did that thing were a dog sniffs the air because they smell something. So now the food is there and I get up slowly and walk across the street. I watched the dog and he was looking at the food, then he looked back at me, then looked at the food, then looked back at me. Then he went to eat!

I stood there very happy that I helped a creature, then after he finished the food, he came across the street to me and stood there for me to pet him!

...I once fed a homeless teen, I had gone for my break from work and was only going to get an iced-coffee from Starbucks...when I smelled pizza and went inside to get a slice. On my way back to work with pizza and coffee, feeling guilty about my pizza...I saw a homeless teen with one of those "homeless and hungry" signs, I gave her my pizza. She was so surprised and asked me if I was sure, I said yes and walked away. She needed it way more then me.

aww....you did a good thing. I dont see many stray dogs here..but ALOT of stray cats...they never hang around long enough for me to feed them.

Didn't you kill a cat or it killed itself in front of you or something?
