Super Rare video of when Michael Jackson's hair caught fire

Video footage has surfaced from when Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire in '84. It's actually very graphic and pretty sad to know that this incident would lead to his addiction to pain killers (which led to his death)and probably to plastic surgery too. It's obvious from the footage that he suffered very serious burns to his scalp. Sad. MJ was a misunderstood genius with a heart of gold in my book.

It's a terribly unfortunate thing, and while it was a joke at the time, this fleeting moment would perhaps change his life forever. It was likely the catalyst for his pain killer addiction, it probably did contribute to his surgeries and cosmetic procedures, and it very well may have even triggered lupus -- resulting either from any infection he may have suffered, or as an effect of any number of medications he'd have been given over the years. We know now that he was already predisposed to auto immune illnesses.

I felt guilty watching it, but I did watch it. It didn't get to me until he fell after the spins and everyone was surrounding him. I just thought it was so heroic how he didn't realize he's on fire and how he did that spin with force and put it out, he would have died if he didn't.

That was pretty disturbing to watch. Man, that was a pretty big flame on the portion of his head. I know that had to hurt Michael for many years to come. Didn't he wear a hair piece after this?

I mean the explosion went off too early. I believe it was suppose to go off when he went down the stairs. It was very nerve racking to watch.

Fucking hell, that's truly outrageous footage. No doubt some smartarse has already turned that final spin into a darkly amusing forum gif.
I guess this is when am went to pm, then. I always guessed this was more than a silly minor accident, although I admit to cracking the odd Soul Glo funny too...but not now.
I also read today from several sources the doctor who caried out the skin graft says MJ was fascinated by how lighter the new skin grew in...

There's nothing to feel guilty about. I actually think that it's important for the world to see this footage to better understand what MJ went through. I think this incident helps to explain a lot of what happened with the change in his looks, the addiction to pain killers and the addiction to plastic surgery too.

Absolutely. How the hell could they make such a huge mistake. They could have easily killed him. You would think they would have been more cautious considering this was after Thriller and he was pretty much the biggest star in the world. And I think I read he only got like 1.5 million in a settlement with Pepsi and he gave the money to charity. Seems to me like that's a pretty small amount considering what happened to him.

Well it looks like The Jacksons are on a warpath trying to get as money as they possibly can. Joe - Latoya - Tito all getting paid for interviews and now THIS "release"!! money money money money! Keep it coming huh Jackson Family.

Actually this is something I have wanted to see since it happened, so this is really interesting. For one WHY didnt they always only release that one still frame to this and the angle they chose made it seem not that bad. eek wow was I wrong!!! That was fucking disgusting! But very interesting! MJ should have released this himself when it happened.

Cool shit!

Its so easy to see the spin The Jackson family is trying to put out there before the autopsy reports comes out and more and more comes out in the future..rolleyes

Didn't the Jackson family force Michael into doing the Pepsi Commercial

I remember they mentioned that in the Jacksons American Dream movie.

dirtyman2005

that is fucking sad.

I always wondered how bad the incident was, and now we know, it was fucking serious.

That could easily have killed him, and explains a lot as to why his immune system might have triggered off the vitiligo, and lupus.

fucking terrible.

Anybody who jokes about this incident is a mother fucker plain and simple.

Oh yeah, Fuck eminem for making fun of this incident, an insensitive fucker for doing that "lose it" video.

I've seen video of people who were badly burned...I think they are one of the bravest people....it's a horrible thing to go through.....I think people who think it's funny don't really understand what is happening...
