You put the cash in an envelope (provided for your concenience at the ATM) along with a deposit slip. You put your card in the ATM, enter your PIN, select deposit, enter the amount and when it tells you to, you put the envelope in the machine.

I do it all the time. I bank with Chase and you don't even use the deposit envelopes anymore--you just insert the cash directly into the slot. If your bank still uses deposit slips, make sure you know or have your account number when you go as you'll need to write that on the deposit slip/envelope.

Money orders are accepted by banks. I used to deposit them all the time when people paid me in money orders on ebay. Just deposit them like you would a check.

Bank of America is awesome. No envelopes needed, you stick the check in and an image of it pops up on the screen. It's like Jesus (or the devil

I've decided to just do bank by mail. I loath ATM transactions. C:\Otaassk~.exe Oh dear lawd, life is strange. vivid is my new boo!

I don't know if you can deposit money orders. I guess you could, but why go to the extra work of getting that when you can just deposit the cash. One thing to keep in mind is that deposits made by ATM take longer to clear than if you were to go to a teller. Also, make sure you keep the receipt as proof of your deposit. I love Chase's atm! you can even deposit multiple checks and it reads the amount right off the face of the check and you can print an image of the check as a receipt. You don't need directions and you don't need cash. I have quite a bit of money in case that I need to get deposited into my checkings account. I found out that the city that I'm going to be visiting doesn't have a branch that will take deposits (they're on a different system even though they use the same bank name). To make a long story short, to use the bank account i have in Tampa, I need to make a deposit in a city that has a branch OR deposit it in an ATM. There is an ATM about 20 minutes from me which I could do this, but I've never deposited cash in an ATM. How is this done? (speak to me in very simple layman's terms). Can I use a money order to make the deposit instead of cash? I've looked at alternatives (bank by mail, transfer, etc.) and due to timing, an ATM looks like my best option. Why not just open a new acount with a branch that exists in that city??? You don't need directions and you don't need cash. Then you hope it gets to the bank. I’ve done it once, I think, many years ago (I don’t remember why…) and had no problems. I can see why you’d be leery, though. I have never done it with cash When I was 16, I fully expected to be able to build my own KITT car.

Checks deposited through ATMs generally take longer because the ATMs are not "emptied" by the bank; an armored car has to come pick up all the deposits. Then the checks have to be taken to a sorting facility and sorted according to location. Then they are processed by your bank. With cash, you don't have to do as much sorting so it doesn't take as long; and if you go to the teller with your check, you eliminate the armored car pick-up and sorting, so it's also fastser. (I just learned this last week when I called Chase to inquire about why it was taking so long for a check I had deposited via ATM to post to my account.)

Mine was a check from someone in the midwest and I'm in NYC, so it took about 5 business days for it to clear. It could also be that NYC Chases have more volume than Dallas... . Now, john. You know it's Cher in there. I didn't know if I'd established my religious relationship to Cher (and other Gay Deities) here at the Org sufficiently enough to make the comment make sense, so I went with more widely known fairy tale characters.

I'm pretty sure someone has already given you the answer, but I don't feel like reading everyone's responses since I'll type this faster...
