As someone who's worked in HR for 10 years, as has my mother for 25 years, we've both witnessed hiring managers throw the resumes of those with "ghetto" names in the trash. It happens all the time. I'm sayin'! It isn't right, obviously...but why give them any reason, at all? I think the same probably happens (to a lesser degree) with names that have become unisex. Why would a manager want to endure potential embarrassment trying to figure out if Hunter is male or female?  We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

I hope I didn't get rejected by some employers because of my name...i hope not too! my husband is from brazil, and his name and many of the names from his country sound odd and make people laugh here in the USA, but in brazil it's 100% normal and common names.  | |

I had a friend whose middle name is Shaniqua. She will not reveal her full name. Sometimes she just gives her name and says she has no middle. It is totally embarassing to her. | |
