I'm familiar with the so called ghetto black names. Thank god
no one in my immediate family has them. I hate any name
with quan or isha in it. lol
I notice a lot of white kids with last names for first names
like Hunter and Connor.

I can't handle names like this. Such a violent name to call a little baby. It's even worse when it's on girls.... neutral

Unless is switched around like Heather Hunter! ha ha - bad joke

I think hunter is cool. I've been in department stores and
hear parents say Connor stop it. lol
That alone eliminates Connor as a cool name.

Whaaaat? I see people making fun of "trailer trash" and "rednecks" all the damn time!

I'll admit I was a little uncomfortable with some of these, especially the "Watermelonisha" or whatever, and the fact that at least one of the boys appeared to be non-black.

But it also made me laugh because I have grown up with Velveeta, Satan (pronounced sah-tahn), Margarita, Alize, LaTasha, LaTisha, Veroniqua, Shampelle, and fifteen different spellings of Nakia, including Nekqui'aa. Also, I have never known a white Courtney. falloff

And black comedians make fun of white people stereotypes all the time.
And it's just as funny.

It's funny because it's funny.
-----
Yes, it is funny and so is Dottie Jo and Sponner. I just don't hear anyone making fun of those names. In addtion, some of those black comedians are telling the truth and usually white folks are not laughing along.

Everybody needs to learn how to laugh and not take everything so seriously. It would be good to see white people give it try.

Jim Bob will go right ahead and call himself Jim Bob instead of Jim or just James and nobody will say anything.

It'd be funnier if it weren't so sad. What do stupidly-named children do when they grow up? Who's going to hire Toprameneesha for a professional position? Those doing the hiring will have a good laugh at the name on her resumé - before it ends up in the circular file.

As someone who's worked in HR for 10 years, as has my mother for 25 years, we've both witnessed hiring managers throw the resumes of those with "ghetto" names in the trash. It happens all the time.

I'm sayin'! It isn't right, obviously...but why give them any reason, at all?

I think the same probably happens (to a lesser degree) with names that have become unisex. Why would a manager want to endure potential embarrassment trying to figure out if Hunter is male or female? shrug
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I've seen/heard this happen because of names AND to applicants that attended HBCUs. disbelief

i remember having a stupid ass roommate who said if he had a son he'd name him Hunter, but was sure how it would be received because, get this, his last name is Black! WTF. Hunter Black! And the creepy thing about it is that it seemed that was the exact reason why he wanted to name him that.

I had a friend whose middle name is Shaniqua. She will not reveal her full name. Sometimes she just gives her name and says she has no middle. It is totally embarassing to her.
