I like that he's made strides, yet I'm not a fan

Ok well, to each his/her own. I don't watch his TV shows but I do sort of enjoy his movies. Diary of a Mad Black Woman happens to be a personal favorite of mine. If that gives me the label of a simple person willing to view anything, that's fine with me. I enjoy a variety of movies and I don't think it makes me any less of a person for liking Tyler Perry.

He must be doing something right because the money's rolling in.

Yeah, at my last church, friends of mine used to talk about me for not liking Tyler's stuff.

I got standards. Can't help it.

His movies are okay. I'm not a play person. They generally put me to
sleep. At least give the guy credit for trying to provide wholesome
entertainment for the black community instead of the 90's overkill of
thug in the hood shoot em up movies. I would take the former over the latter anyday. House of Payne is a mixed bag. It's funny at times particularly the dad.
He is the star that makes that show go.

I am rather ambiguous toward Tyler Perry. I saw Madea's Family Reunion, and it was tolerable. I stay away from most of his stuff because it seems to religious and preachy for my tastes. Nonetheless, Perry is becoming increasingly ubiquitous and that can always be annoying.

He's formulaic, but much like everyone else. He's able to tap into a demographic that has been underrepresented and thirsty for entertainment - the religious Blacks.

That's why he's able to do what he does because no one else is tapping into that demo. TD Jakes is trying the same thing but without the "flair" of how TP is doing it.

Hopefully, TP'll branch out more and acquire different scripts, which is why he set up a satellite production company out here in L.A.

I think he's a talented writer. I just think that he's sticking to "the formula" because he's making money from it. A lot of people love it. Hopefully he'll break out and make something different and wonderful.

I liked THE FAMILY THAT PRAYS and WHY DID I GET MARRIED. I think those movies were a step in the right direction.

I don't mind some of the Madea movies either but it's not something so groundbreaking and off the hook, for me.

I won't front, I love his Why Did I Get Married movie. Which makes me even more frustrated with him,,,,,he could make funny and intelligent films that score BIG numbers in the box office if he wants to, yet he ditches this shit over & over
