If I've got 3 weeks to spend in the states what's worth seeing? When I was 16, I fully expected to be able to build my own KITT car.
At the top of my list now is the dream of being able to poop in peace just once. — Horsefeathers

That was a bit of a stretch considering I was travelling by greyhound but more than worth it an AMAZING 3 weeks I'd be interested to go to all those places I reckon I'd stick to the eastern side for this trip, my mum isn't sure she can cope with my boys for the full 3 weeks, so it might only be for 2. Though it's likely the flight goes via LA, so might just stop over there or something When I was 16, I fully expected to be able to build my own KITT car.

I'm an idiot! I'd like to see Lake Tahoe, but in the summertime, I'm not crazy about snow When I was 16, I fully expected to be able to build my own KITT car.

If you're going to stick to the east coast, then you still have options.

The White Mountains of New Hampshire are nice.
You could drive up the Mt. Washington Road there, and visit the place where the highest wind speed ever recorded on earth was. They'll only let you drive up there if the weather conditions permit it. Otherwise, the White Mountains are very nice. The Adirondacks are also worth seeing in upstate New York.
Further down south, if you're driving, you'll want to definitely take a trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
It starts in Virginia and ends in Tennessee. Over 400 miles of fantastic 2 lane road with no commercial trucking allowed, no commercial business (except for a few campgrounds and hotels), no billboards and no stop signs or red lights (plus it's free). The entire road is a National Park and has some of the most amazing vistas you'll see on the eastern part of the U.S. The BRP will end in Smoky Mountain National Park which is also a nice place, although I haven't spent too much time there. Those are my favorites on the East.....the West is a whole different story and a whole different type of visit. Hope that helps! I have some pictures of some of the places on my website jsomethin.smugmug.com if you want to see them. Have fun! Beautiful pics!

ZombieKitten said: I'd like to see some nature Since you are going to be in NYC, you could take a couple of hours and go to the Adirondacks. I am origianlly from that region, and it is pretty nice. However, during the winter some places are nicer than others. Lake Placid and Saranac Lake are better in the winter because places like Old Forge (my original home town) are full of snowmobiles this time of year. Ithaca's Number 1 Prince Fan

Niagara Falls is really the centerpiece of the northeast when it comes to nature. It's an eight hour drive (more or less) from NYC.
