Best Sci Fi movie of the 80s

OK, I liked the idea, but I think the 80's is a much harder decade to call.

1982 alone gave us:

The Empire Strikes Back
Blade Runner
The Wrath of Khan
Tron

What do you think?

empire strikes back is my favorite star wars movie (wellll, other than the original, but that's more sentimental than anything) but for some reason i don't really consider "empire" an 80s movie...even though it is.

so i'd say "blade runner", because the look of that movie was so future-forward while at the same time paying tribute to film noir of yesteryear. the balance between past and future styles was struck brilliantly, i thought.

I agree with Empire because it was the best movie in the series, and the last one that was watchable.

Terminator might be better, though; I can't decide.

And then there's War Games, a sentimental favorite that isn't the best of the decade but definitely deserves mention.

Being old has it's perks. I can recall seeing all of these in the theater and they were earth shattering events.

1. Blade Runner had Han Solo shooting people and seeing titties on the big screen.
2. Empire had Luke's hand cut off, Han frozen, and "I am your father".
3. Wrath of Khan killed off Spock.

That was some heavy shit for a 10 year old.

I guess the obvious choice is Empire...but I've got a genuine love for Enemy Mine...

Dune is best in little bits, or with the sound down and some good music, like Wizard of Floyd. There should be a Demolition Man video with Sting in his leather outfit intercut with giant worms and shit blowing up.

I've read the series up to book six. And have to say unfortunately the movie barely skimmed the book! But the book does start pretty slowy before the plot starts to get some sort of momentum!
They did a mini series as well!

Good pick. That was my actual fave in the 80's. In hindsight, I love, love, love and adore everything about Blade Runner, if we can decide which version is master of them all.
