what's the point in haute coutre?

are people really supposed to buy this fashion from Pierre Cardin's Winter '09 collection?

it's just sculpture. it's art. it's silly and over the top, but big deal. these things should be allowed to exist in the world. why not? if i had to choose between these dr. seuss looking dresses or a steven segal movie, i know which i'd want.

the so-called 'fashion industry' is comprised of those same folks who brought us the emperor's new clothes.

based on some of the clothing out there i'd say current designers are having a contest among themselves to see who can pull off the most outrageous joke on the buying public.

that will be one good thing about the recession. it will kill off stupid deisgn houses and ideas in favor of actual clothing that people will buy.

i'm sure if we got dolled up in what we in 2008 consider to be chic, elegant, stylish clothes and went into a time machine to 100 years ago, the clotheshorses of 1908 would think we were dressed like a bunch of freaks and make fun of our ridiculous haute couture outfits.

Haute couture can be worn*, hence it is functional, hence it is not art.

*Not the same as wanting to wear it, that it's practical, etc. But you could wear it.
