Mothers do choose a favourite among their offspring – but would never reveal it, new research shows.

I've only one daughter, so...

But I know I was my father's favorite. He told me so, and I think our entire history somewhat evidenced it.

My mother? hmmm I don't know that I'd be her "favorite," but I'm pretty sure I'm the most interesting and potentially extraordinary of my siblings to her. If anything, though, that may make me simultaneously her most cherished and her most frustrating when I (often) don't behave quite as she'd prefer.

I'm the youngest of three but switch that to my mother and you've pretty much summed it up for me. nod

For years, I never quite grasped what it was that my father disliked about me so much and, finally, I think it's simply the fact that my mother and I were extraordinarily close during my childhood. It was the archetypal mother/son relationship and I think he felt threatened by that. I also recall a conversation betwen my sister and I - I must've been about 7 at the time - where she pointed out how jealous she and my brother were of my relationship with her... it's a lot different today.

Well after my dad had mercy on my family and finally passed away, I somehow became my mom's favorite.
I mean to the point that it became extremely annoying. I grew up in my teenage years in an extremely dysfunctional family. that's all I knew. that's all I was used to. So to have her all of a sudden ignore that period and think everything was ok again, was a bit annoying. OK, VEEEERRRRY annoying.
Even today when she pulls her usual favorite 'proud' mother routine by comparing her own 'personal philosophy" about how we should love children and let them express themselves, I sometimes like to point out what it was like living under the same roof as my father just to 'break it down' for her again. Sad, really.

As far as me, I don't have kids but was a close uncle to my nephews. I'd say my oldest nephew was my favorite for years and years. But now I love each equally--and i mean that.

I think my mom favorites my older brother more.
I'm like the black sheep of my family; doesnt necessarily bother me;
But I just hope not to favorite any of my future kids.

If it wasn't for the gutter ; my mind wouldn't have a home.

I can't decide hmmm

when they are grown I will get someone to ask them individually to see who they THOUGHT was my favourite

Their answers will probably surprise me.

I have one that is sadly my least favourite, on account of being so incredibly difficult and stubborn (most like me mr.green ) but he is also the one I treat extra special sometimes because he responds best to love and cuddles.

I love them all differently, like Kylie said. They don't actually directly compete hmmm

When I was 16, I fully expected to be able to build my own KITT car.
At the top of my list now is the dream of being able to poop in peace just once. — Horsefeathers
