I am sorry but that is some sexist shit right there. I have known women who were really into sport, even football.

Not at all, if you're listening to a woman who understands and has a passion for the game. Not at all.

God damn sexism at it's height.

Hey i know women racers that would kick yours and Greycaps ass out there on the track so they are less qualified to commentate on bike racing than either of you two because they have ovaries????

Whatever!

I am not surprised shrug
It is a man's world. Men are president and men start wars. Only makes sense that they should commentate sports news.

While women know the game quite well in some cases, when it comes 2 football, unless u played, u are missing a GREAT deal. Nothing like being in those trenches 2 understand what is REALLY going on.

rolleyes Get the fuck outta here with THAT shit. lol A LOT of very talented sportscasters NEVER played football. James Brown was a basketball player at Harvard yet has been successfully manning the desk for Sunday football for many years. And I don't think Bryant Gumbel ever played football but he actually calls games on NFL Network. I don't see how having testicles makes these and other non-football players, or non-athletes for that matter, more qualified sportscasters. Besides, playing sports does NOT automatically qualify you to stand before the country and try to articulate thoughts. Shannon Sharpe or Michael Irving, anyone? disbelief

That's interesting. That question has been asked of black sportscasters, too, I'm sure.

Would it seem fake, if Candace Parker or Lisa Leslie dunked on you?

I take it a bit personally, I guess, since I have female friends who work as sports journalists. They've had so much to overcome, by way of sexist attitudes, it's a trip to see this question posed in 2008.

And having hung out with sports journalists of both sexes off the clock, I assure you that female sports journalists can recall even the most obscure sports trivia and moments with the best of them.

Great comments but that has not changed my mind one bit. When it comes 2 football, unless u played (at any level) u cannot begin 2 understand the REALITY of that particular sport, regardless of the number of times u have "watched" a game.

So, you'd take Shannon Sharpe explaining something about football over James Brown?

How's it a different topic? I may be wrong, but I don't think JB played football. So is he ONLY qualified, over say Leslie Visser who's been in the game for decades, cuz he's a man?

So that negates ALL of your comments about golf not being a sport then, given you have never been in the front line lol

Ummmmm. . . no I didn't, but the topic of the thread is men vs. women sportscasters and you said that being in the trenches is the only way to know what's REALLY going on in football. rolleyes Unless my eyes are deceiving me isn't that what you typed? To which I responded that there are men that didn't play that are sportscasters, so why are they acceptable but women are not? Why the double standard?

I apply my comments 2 EVERYONE, but in general I think people probably assume that it's man sport and are more comfortable with men reporting on it. Plus, most people probably assume that the men reporting on the game may have played. (bad assumption and all) Personally, I turn the TV down when I watch games so I could give a crap less who is talking during the game. The beauty of the NFL is the GAME itself, not the distractions of announcers, cheerleaders, halftime shows and the like.

It's about the GAME on the field and nothing else.
