Do you think it is responsible for athletes to endorse McDonalds?

Someone that works out 8-12 hours a day has little problem working off the fast food calories and fat.

Your average joe is going to get all they should eat in a day in one meal at McDonalds, plus they are going to go over on fats and sugars.

So should these people make a buck by telling you to go eat something that will head you in the opposite direction of their fitness?

Should they be required to tell you they work out all day and that if you do as well, then you should get down on that Big Mac?

EDIT, I debated on the wording to begin with so not it is "responsible" rather than Hypocritical.

I think anyone with common sense is going to know, without a disclaimer, that McDonalds will make you fat and unhealthy if you live a sedentary lifestyle. Advertisements are about selling product not being moral or ethical. If I were one of the athletes I would not be on any ad because I find advertising to be completely evil. But it's a free country and they can do what they want.

The cynical and indifferent know not what they miss. For their mistake is an impediment not only to our progress as a civilization but to their happiness as individuals.

Eating McDonald's doesn't make you fat and unhealthy. Sitting around on your ass all day and eating McDonald's (or any other fast-food restaurant food) will make you fat. Hell, I worked and ate there the majority of my high school years and half of my college years, got regular exercise, and hardly gained a fucking pound! Not only that, but McDonald's is a LOT healthier than they were back at the time I worked there.

I miss my MCDLTs, dammit! mad

"I woke around 11am and decided to watch some TV and had some nuggets.

So no, I don't think it's hypocritical. McDonalds is evidently grade-A sports nutrition.

McDonald's was my first job in high school. Back then, you could get a Big Mac, regular fries and medium drink for $1.40. lol

I don't see a problem with it. Grown people need to make their own judgment. The athletes are out to get endorsements, so that's their job; that's why they work so hard to begin with. If someone's gonna sit around and get filled off Mickey D's, then that's SOLELY on them. Don't blame the athlete, he/she could give a fuck about you.

A lot of athletes eat McDonalds. I think it means you can be an athlete and eat it. Doesn't mean it's the best thing for you.

Michael Jordan said he ate steak before every game. Would it be wrong to tell people that because steak can cause some heath issues?

And why the crap on McD's all the time? If Burger King, Taco Bell or Pizza Hut was in their place, would they get shit on as much? Like they're any healthier. rolleyes

Part of the reason I get upset about the McD bashing is because they bent to media and public pressure to be a healthier restaurant. What about people that are capable of eating it and not becoming 400 lbs or even half that? Some people know enough to eat in moderation and get our exercise. Thanks to some people out there, some of the items on the McDonald's menu that I used to know and love are gone forever.

Ya, I don't see a problem with it either.

And they are not saying 'eat only Mcdonalds every day and nothing else'.

McDonalds as a treat every now and then is not hurting anyone. It's not the athletes fault that some people decide to eat that shit every day...and to be fair, not everyone that has McDs, eats it all the time.

I'm sig-less. Happy, fuckers? mad

i've quit giving any thought to celebrity product endorsements, because so much of it is caught up in synergy and movie franchising and tie-ins and blah blah blah, it's difficult to even know if we're supposed to be thinking the celebrity likes the product, or if it's something being used by a character in a film, or any number of other things that i may or may not understand.

the bottom line is, i just don't give a damn. david bowie did pepsi commercials in the 80s. i love david bowie. i hate pepsi. sorry, dave...even though i'm sure he probably prefers orangina or some shit anyway.

the real deal was, pepsi sponsored bowie's tour and in exchange, he had to do commercials. it was a business deal, and if that's what it takes to put bowie on stage, then hey - fine by me. i'll see the concert, but i still won't drink a nasty pepsi. hmph!

if an artist i admire posts something in a blog or mentions something in an interview and it seems like a sincere, off-the-cuff recommendation for some particular item, i might be tempted to check it out. not often, but if it sounds interesting, sure. that's about the only sway celebrity endorsements have over me, i guess. shrug
