The Day the Earth Stood Still

Klaatu...barada...nikto

I'm trying to go into this with an open mind, but I saw the trailer for the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still starring those two pieces of cardboard, Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly. The original is a sci-fi classic by the late, great Robert Wise so they've got some big shoes to fill. The trailer doesn't look absolutely horrible, but it looks a lot like the remake of War of the Worlds. It could be fun I guess. Bernard Herrmann's score in the original (with two theremins...one of my fave instruments) is neat-o.

They'v'e updated the premise - of course - to reflect humankind's damage to the earth rather than to each other. The cold war themes of the classic sci-fi era made for some great films.

Blanche: Oh, I do love the rain so! It reminds me of my first kiss.
Dorothy: Awww, your first kiss was in the rain...
Blanche: No, it was in the shower.

She's just so boring. She's been in a few movies I like, but she's just not a good actress. They gave her the Oscar for the standard role of wife-of-a-weird-guy, but I've never found her to be very dynamic as an actress. shrug Maybe this movie will capitalize on that skill. lol The effects look amazing. I dunno. We'll see come December, cuz I'm sure my ass will be planted in that theatre seat.

is this already trying to hype in on the doomscenarios for 12-12-12?
or whatever the date is. you know, the 12th planet, what do they call
it, nibiru?, coming so close to earth that it will stop turning?

lol

anywho, it looks like an interesting enough movie but i just hate to
see keanu acting exactly the same in every single movie for everyone
of his characters. why do studio's even hire him anymore?

although i guess playing an alien devoid of human emotion would be a
rather tight fit for him since that's closer to his acting than any
of his other roles.

Yeah, he might not be terrible in this role for that very reason. That's the way it was originally played. lol
