Your thoughts on Batman 3

So now that The Dark Knight has opened to gigantic movie audiences and stellar reviews as the greatest superhero movie of all time, it's probably a certainty that Warner Bros. will want to release a third Batman movie from Christopher Nolan. But how will they ever top The Dark Knight in style and intensity? And who will be the next villain? The Penguin? The Riddler? Catwoman? Bane? Black Mask? Or should they introduce Robin in the next movie? And how would Christopher Nolan spin the characters of the Riddler or Catwoman? Would the Riddler be a clever but sadistic serial killer who leaves riddles at every crime scene? Would Catwoman become Bruce Wayne's new love interest? Would the next Batman movie tie into the Justice League? Give your thoughts.

i've heard rumblings that the riddler is going to be the main villain in the next batman movie, though i don't know how the character is going to fit in with the "gritty realism" concept of nolan's batman franchise.

i think it would be great to have a hyper-seedy, hypersexualized, hyper-obsessive version of catwoman. i can totally see a "gritty realism" version of her character that could be unlike any version of her ever attempted in film/tv/comics/etc.

i also can't see how robin or batgirl would fit into the "gritty realism" world of these films.

i wonder if they'll bring back the joker and who'll they'll choose to replace heath ledger?

good grief

I'd love to see Crispin Glover cast as the Riddler.

Yeah, but I'm not sure how confident directors will be in recasting that anytime soon.

Where IS Crispin???

This is my first time looking at ANY of these Batman threads but I must ask: What is the purpose of rehashing all of these comic book franchises that have been done to death??? I still don't understand why The Hulk was remade when there was JUST a new version released a few years ago. This habit of regurgitating what's been done has me honestly perplexed confuse

True, though on the other hand The Joker is one of the most central characters in all the Batman comics, so they're eventually going to have to work it out somehow.

I agree, but it probably would be about 2 sequels from now.

I'd rather they stay away from Robin.

That one sucked. They think they can do better. I still haven't seen the new Hulk yet, but it can't be worse than that one.

I think they've painted themselves into a bit of a corner. Both of Batman's most formidable villains have already been used. Another major villain seems to be unusable for 2 main reasons. They'd do well to avoid having multiple "main" villains, but I don't think there's anyone left that could really carry the movie alone.

Oh, so I guess that means you ain't got time to answer my question. pout

Also, was Harvey Dent black in the comic book? And doesn't he become Two-Face? Wouldn't that be a natural progression since he was introduced in the current sequel? And what's the deal with Maggie replacing Katie Holmes???

I think Riddler and Catwoman done in this gritty, realistic style could be amazing for a third. Or they could use Ras Al Ghul again in the third, which would tie in nicely as a trilogy--for some reason, superhero movies seem to viewed as building to a trilogy nowadays.

I'd also be happy if they updated the Boss Thorn/Silver St. Cloud storyline for the third.

Just as long as they stay away from the Penguin...

Have they really been done to death? For Batman, most people wanted to forget two of those nineties movies. And Hulk was a disappointment to the filmmakers both times it was done--they thought if they redid it, they could relaunch it more successfully and have an opportunity to do more sequels.

They've really just barely scratched the surface of what they could be doing.

i think the big lesson with both hulk movies is that there's just not a whole lot you can do with a big angry green dude in tattered pants.

so what do they do? they stick him in the desert. yeah, that'll make things more exciting.

hulk's always been boring. maybe if they threw more of the colorful comic book supporting cast into the mix - doc samson, she hulk, whoever - the movies would be a little more interesting.

good grief

They're still the same characters is what I'm saying. Batman, the Hulk, Superman have all been done to death. Pretty much the same storylines different actors. I left out Spiderman because there had not been a big screen adaptation and what they did with it was new and fresh, until the third installation. This constant regurgitation just seems to me like a way to milk the franchise for a new generation. shrug

They're also catering to comic book fans who shell out their money each time hoping the movie will be done their way. I've wanted a Nolanesque view of Batman ever since Burton's original.

I'd like to see a psychotic version of the Riddler. That would be great. I agree with you on Robin and Batgirl (although, the adult Barbara Gordon character might be interesting) and think that Black Canary or Huntress would be a phenominal addition to this series, but it just might not be time to introduce them (esp. with no intro of Catwoman and they just might not be well known enough).
I do doubt they'll bring back the Joker - at least I hope they won't. Really, who could live up to that performance? Had Heath lived, I don't know if he even could have.
