if your in america then expect to wait around all damn day

untill you can go home or untill your called to court.and if called to as a potential juror then it takes 1-2 days to pick jurors(the most boring process ever)and then ur either picked or not picked.and i cant tell u anything after that cause ive never actually been picked for a case.

Be prepared to hurry up and wait.

Take a book.

You will be on the court's time so clear your schedule for that day.

Make sure you call the night before to see if it's still going on. I've gotten called 3 times and twice they ended up canceling. The third time I had to sit in a room for hours, then watch a movie on how to be a fair juror and then they let us just go home at 2pm. Bring lots of reading material.

Do it! But as people have said, bring a book. Most courts won't let you bring in newspapers or electronic devices, so a good old book is the way to go.

Serving on a jury is sooooo important. There's an old saying about losing a trial thanks to the judgement of 12 people not smart enough to get out of jury duty.

It's a sad, but true, statement. So if you get called to serve, do it. I was foreman of a jury two years ago and it was one of the most fascinating processes I;ve ever been through.

I was on it about a month ago. I basically sat in a jury assembly room 4 about 6 hours. During that time, I did get called into a courtroom, but I was never selected 2 be on a jury. They put a whole bunch of people who were in that courtroom in a jury selection box 2 be questioned by the judge 2 see who is best qualified, but I was one of 3 people whose name was never called 4 anything. I then went back 2 the jury assembly room (which held maybe 100 people) and eventually went 2 lunch.... came back from lunch, waited some more, and was dismissed.

They say u're not allowed 2 bring laptops or cell phones, but I saw people with both, and nobody enforced it. Just bring a book and be prepared 2 be bored.

Be prepared to wait...and wait and wait. It's a good idea to bring a book.

You will always learn something with jury duty.
Who gets screened, and how. "What bumper stickers do you have on your car?"
"What organizations do you belong to?"
"What TV shows do you watch?"

One case that stands out in my mind, was a reverse discrimination case. A woman who was a golf pro and had no experience, with a sports/business degree, was hired over another person, with a counseling degree and experience in the field. The job was a "Diversional Program" with the county, to keep offenders out of jail.
Everyone called on the stand as a witness for the county was quick to say they were "married".(?)
The golf pro was Hispanic and the counselor was Caucasion.
What more can you say???
Don't underestimate having the opportunity to be on a jury.
wink

This was over ten years ago.

nod That's basically what happened when I was called in Skokie, Il. Only I didn't know I should have brought a book. confused

They ask you if you've been a victim of a crime. The ones who raised their hands (me) were asked to explain to the defense attorney in front of the judge what happened. I really didn't want to do that, and I really did not care for his attitude! razz You're dismissed....HA mad Bite me!! lol

Needless to say, I did not get picked after sitting there all day.

Oh, yes. I'm fine. It was a while ago. They still ask you when, where, and how. I wasn't trying to get out of it. Just being honest. I noticed there was a guy there who started saying all sorts of ignorant things, trying to get sent home. The judge laughed and told him it wasn't working. razz
