I'm having trouble believing this was intentional, something is off about this. I thinking it was an accidental overdose.

Nobody knows yet, but I don't know what you mean by something is "off" about this.

Batman finally killed him.

Or Jack Nicholson.

Definitely, just like the Lacy Peterson thing. Men probably kill their wives every day and nobody (outside of their families & friends) cares because there are no cute photos of them/they're too poor to rally up media coverage!

But Lovemachine said this was "much less tragic" because it was suicide and I don't see how.

lovemachine probably meant it was his choice 2 take his own life,so in a way he must hav bin deeply upset about something and couldnt bear 2 live so hes decided 2 hes had enough of this shit world and went with god(well i pray he has) it may be less tragic but it dont make it less upsetting(well not 4 me anyway) wink

that sounds pretty fucking tragic to me

Personally i think his Hollywood movies arent very good, but his Aussie movies are just amazing!

Do yourself a favour and go watch "Two Hands" or "Candy" and tell me he didnt have something big on the horizon, its just too bad we will never see it come to fruition sad

Heath Ledger Depression Worried Jake Gyllenhaal Michelle Williams

January 22nd, 2008 ·

Heath Ledger had been battling a vicious bout of depression before his mysterious death from an apparent overdose on Tuesday. “He adored his daughter Matilda, and when Michelle called it quits, he missed Matilda so much that he was thrown into a deep dark depression.”

The Daily Mail reports:

“Heath was shattered by his split from Michelle,” the source told Mail Online, adding: “He became a recluse. He barely slept he was dealing with terrible mood swings.”

“Heath totally wanted to be on his own these past few months since he and Michelle split in September. She was very much in love with him, but the fact he continued to dabble in drugs kept their relationship from being one she could rely on.”

“Heath was living in New York to be close to his daughter. But he hardly ever ventured out anymore.”

“His close friend and Brokeback co-star, Jake Gyllenhaal has been worried about him for months. And he knew Heath was sinking further into a depression. Jake is Matilda’s godfather, and he and Heath had become really close since they did the film Brokeback together.”

“Jake wanted Heath to get help, but he refused, and now it looks as though he may have died of a drug overdose.”

“Michelle will be devastated by the news, because she always hoped he would get help and they could manage to work out their relationship for the sake of their daughter.”

I hate all the speculation and guessing when something like this happens.

Anyway, the first time I saw him was one night when I was stuck home with my bf's friend's gf. She popped in some silly teen movie (hate those kinds of movies) and I right away liked him. Since then I would watch any movie with him in it, just cuz I liked something about him.

Going from what I saw and read about him he always stuck me as a very soft spoken, kind and very sincere dude. He had this endearing awkwardness about him that I found very sweet. He was one of a very small list of actors I really liked to watch in films.

More on the Associated Press article ... myFOXToledo.com.

... And in what may be his final finished performance, Ledger proved that he wouldn't be intimidated by taking on a character as iconic as Jack Nicholson's Joker. Ledger's version of the Batman villain, glimpsed in early teaser trailers, made it clear that his Joker would be less comical and more depraved and dark.

Curiosity to see Ledger's final performance will likely further stoke interest in the summer blockbuster. "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan said earlier this month that Ledger's performance as the Joker would be wildly different than Jack Nicholson's memorable turn in 1989's "Batman."

"It was a very great challenge for Heath," Nolan said. "He's extremely original, extremely frightening, tremendously edgy. A very young character, a very anarchic presence that taps into a lot of our basic fears and panic."

Ledger told The New York Times in a November interview that he "stressed out a little too much" during the Dylan film, and had trouble sleeping while portraying the Joker, whom he called a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy."

"Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told the newspaper. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." He said he took two Ambien pills, which only worked for an hour, the paper said.

Before settling down with Williams, Ledger had relationships with actresses Heather Graham and Naomi Watts. He met Watts while working on "The Lords of Dogtown," a fictionalized version of a cult classic skateboarding documentary, in 2004.

Ledger was born in 1979 in Perth, in western Australia, to a mining engineer and a French teacher, and got his first acting role playing Peter Pan at age 10 at a local theater company. He began acting in independent films as a 16-year-old in Sydney and played a cyclist hoping to land a spot on an Olympic team in a 1996 television show, "Seat."

After several independent films, Ledger moved to Los Angeles at age 19 and costarred opposite Julia Stiles in "10 Things I Hate About You." Offers for other teen flicks soon came his way, but Ledger turned them down, preferring to remain idle than sign on for projects he didn't like.

"It wasn't a hard decision for me," Ledger told the Associated Press in 2001. "It was hard for everyone else around me to understand. Agents were like, `You're crazy,' my parents were like, `Come on, you have to eat.'"

This is so sad. Poor Matilda and Michelle Williams.

Very sad to hear especially when a young child is left behind. Reminds me of the death of "inxs" singer Michael Hutchence , though his was ruled suicide it still is believed it was an accident attempting a "sexual" act that has killed many. But for Heath they mentioned he was having sleeping issues also, im thinking that possibly he may have overdosed on something prescribed for sleeping. Doctors have a habit of prescribing Ambien, which is very addictive and im sure if mixed with another drug could kill.

And sadly, Hollywood gets to capitalize on it...

You know that if nobody was going to see Batman before, they definitely will now. It's probably going to be the biggest movie of the year because of all of this, which is very unfortunate.

That Heath could really act. Gone way too soon. sad

That is really disturbing and furthers my belief in that all these "legal" drugs are killing people. I have seen effects of Ambien on people and its scary its also addictive, it doesnt really help you sleep, it actually just "numbs" you but i think we all remember Patrick Kennedy being on Ambien and driving his car at 3am going to a meeting in washington thinking he had to place a vote.

You don't OD on sleeping pills you commit suicide with sleeping pills and frankly that makes his death much much much less tragic then 1000's of other people who will die today yet you don't see people gushing about them all over the news and net but I guess the ability to act makes him important shake

you don't know that.

It's going to be so weird watching the much-anticipated Dark Knight. From what I hear, his performance as the Clown Prince is kick-ass.
