Political Correctness gone mad in Primary Schools!

Wtf? mad I mean some are just common sense, but most of these are barking wacky

Why kids need to learn APCs

http://www.thesun.co.uk/a...50,00.html

HANDS up if you used to put your hand up to answer a question at primary school.

Now this process could soon be banned, along with other age-old school traditions, because the politically correct brigade are worried shy children may feel overshadowed.

Here, we offer a PC school survival guide for the Noughties.

A
is for APPLE.
Earlier this year a pupil in Somerset got detention for eating one outside of a designated area, breaching “health and safety” policy.

B
is for BLACKBOARDS.
Frowned upon because of alleged racial overtones. Replaced by whiteboards and projectors.

C
is for CORPORAL PUNISHMENT
— the cane. An unthinkable abuse of human rights.

D
is for DEFERRED SUCCESS.
A suggested term to replace the word “failure” which the PC brigade want to ban.

E
is for EGG AND SPOON RACE.
Often banished, along with the three-legged race and sack race, because they are too competitive and “dangerous”.

F
is for FIRST AID.
Plasters bandaid not to be given to pupils without parents’ consent for fear of the teacher being sued.

G
is for GOGGLES.
To be worn to play conkers at the few schools where the game is still allowed. Must also not be worn for swimming in one council area where the straps were deemed a danger.

H
is for HISTORY.
Censored for fear of causing offence. Teachers are dropping controversial subjects including the Holocaust and the Crusades.

I
is for INCLUSION.
Buzzword used to justify the banning ideas such as success, failure and competition and the teaching of all faiths to make pupils feel equal.

J
is for JESUS.
Not always included in Inclusion. Christian celebration of Christmas and the Nativity might alienate minority ethnic groups.

K
is for KNIVES.
Schools now have the power to introduce metal detectors to search pupils for hidden weapons.

L
is for LOSING
— also banned. In Scotland they introduced a rule to make football “fairer” by allowing any school team losing by more than five goals at half-time to alter the score to 0-0.

M
is for MARBLES.
Banned from playgrounds, along with British Bulldog, French skipping, hide-and-seek, hand-stands, daisy-chains, ball games and conkers on health and safety grounds.

N
is for NURSERY RHYMES
and other traditional stories. A school in West Yorkshire re-named the Three Little Pigs fairytale the Three Little Puppies for fear of offending Muslim pupils.

O
is for OBESITY.
On the rise because children rarely walk to school these days. Instead they are driven by parents worried about traffic, paedophiles and bullies.

P
is for PHOTOS.
The taking of them is often banned in a move which brands every proud parent who wants a picture of their child performing in the school play a potential paedophile.

Q
is for QUALIFIED JOBSWORTHS.
An “area fruit co-ordinator” sent instructions to junior schools in Stockport on how kids should eat carrots.

R
is for RED INK
. Banned at one West Midlands school in case it upset pupils who found their homework marked with corrections.

S
is for SUN TAN CREAM.
Should not be applied to pupils without parental consent. See F for First Aid.

T
is for TREES.
Not to be climbed for health and safety reasons.

U
is for URINATING.
One Lincs school tried to order boys to sit down to take a wee in a bid to stop them “missing the target” when using cubicles.

V
is for VOCATION.
Discouraged. Male teachers are driven away from the teaching profession for fear of being branded paedophiles.

W
is for WATER.
Surveys have shown 45 per cent of pupils are banned from playing with water.

X
is for X-RAY.
See K is for Knives.

Y
is for YO-YOS.
Banned too. See M for Marbles.

Z
is for ZERO TOLERANCE
of any risk or competition which might prepare kids for the real world.

I am soo lucky that I went to school when I did sigh

No way eek

The only thing I can think of is the metal detectors and the red ink thing. And I only knew one teacher that did that, and it was because he wanted to.

Did they ever say what was wrong with raising hands?

Yes it is. I used to work for an after school care program. The school had banned kickball and football (the american version) because they deemed it too dangerous. The kids never really cared for the rules and played them anyway. Sure enough, no one got hurt and everyone had fun. biggrin

But kids will have no sense of imagination or adventure having all this taken away.. and how can they learn to live in the real world, when they are wrapped up in cotton wool all the time?
No wonder so many are stuck infront of the tv or computer for hours on end sad

Yeah. I like to think that since we live in a (I think its rural) area that we aren't as afflicted with this stuff. Like, we aren't as developed as other schools we don't even have metal detectors in out schools yet. So I hope my kids don't have to be like little robots when they go to school.

Agreed. Unfortunately the current trend in society today reinforces and encouraqes this sedentary lifestyle (both physical and mental). I'm not sure how it is in other countries but our priorities in the States need a major readjustment in my opinion. All this "no child left behind" crap by Bush's administration hampers the educational system. The schools are forced to cut funding of programs like music, art, sports, all of which enhance a child's development physically and mentally. Taking these programs away only encourages an unhealthy lifestyle leading to things like childhood obesity etc.

I mean I wasnt top of the class but a healthy above average. sometimes sliding behind, just cos of my age.. but I was great at sports and especially art. When they take those away, what have we got? Some people are intelligent, others sporty or musical.. its how we find our niche in life. And allowing other children to hold back, so those who are less intellectual can catch up, is really unfair for those who want to learn.. and then of course they become rebellious, out of frustration and boredom.

I've had to deal with this exact situation with one of my friend's kid. He's rebelling at home, not doing so well in school, and now he's selling drugs. He had an intervention and we have tried to surround him with more positive activities that he feels drawn towards such as drawing and sports. Funny that when he's got these choices, he stays out of trouble. Too bad the same can't be said for other kids.
